Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 2

A Personal Note From the Authors

The Bible is different from any other book in the world.

When energised by the Holy Spirit, it becomes living and active.

Jesus said, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God.

The Bible is food for man's spirit.

Throughout the teaching, you will observe that many Scriptures from the Bible are used. They are written out in
full with the appropriate references given.

The great benefit of this is that the Word of God is being assimilated into the reader's spirit. And it obviously does
away with the need of looking up references in the Bible instantaneously. It is not for a moment inferred that the
Bible shouldn't be consulted. Indeed, the greatest compliment any person could pay a teacher is to check up on
him. I most assuredly invite this. Pay me the greatest compliment possible. Check up on me.

This book should not be treated in a manner whereby it is read as quickly as possible and then discarded.

The only method I am aware of of sowing the seed of the Word of God into your life, of allowing the Holy Spirit to
fuse it into your spirit, is by meditation and prayerful reflection. And by meditation I do not mean that you allow
your mind to become blank, that you become vacant and stare off without purpose into outer space. Rather,
meditation is simply thinking, reflecting, pawing over the word, musing. By this means, the Word is transferred
from your mind, to your spirit. It becomes a part of you. From here, the Holy Spirit can bring it to your
remembrance.

Keep this principle imbedded in your mind as you explore the material. You will receive the greatest possible
assistance from God by doing this.
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 3

Introduction

Oswald J. Smith, the great missionary statesman, declared with regular monotony, 'The supreme task of the church
is the evangelisation of the world.'

The oft repeated statement, 'Why should anyone hear the Gospel twice before everyone has heard it once', bears
noting.

Another, "Evangelise or fossilize,' requires earnest consideration.

Penetrating words indeed!

The responsibility of the church is to share the Lord Jesus Christ with every soul on earth.

Missionaries must find themselves in every nation on earth.

The Bible must be published in every language of the planet.

The Evangel is the bearer of the Gospel, the "good news." This is the heart of Evangelism.

The Great Commission remains unchanged, it has never been revoked.

Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in
earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the
Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway,
even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Mark 16:15-20 And he said unto them, GO YE INTO ALL THE WORLD, AND PREACH THE GOSPEL TO
EVERY CREATURE. He that believeth and is baptised shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
AND these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new
tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay
hands on the sick, and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into
heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth and preached every where, the Lord working with
them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Preaching the Gospel is only half the Great Commission. Partial obedience is disobedience.

1 Corinthians 2:4,5 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in the
demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power
of God.

1 Corinthians 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

1 Corinthians 4:20 For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.

Galatians 3:2, 5 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing
of faith? He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works

of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

2 Corinthians 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit:
for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are
spirit, and they are life.

Acts 1:1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to DO and TEACH.

John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater
works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

Luke 4:18, 19 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he
hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to
set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Isaiah 61:1-3 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings
unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of
the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our
God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the
oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of
righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

1 Thessalonians 1:5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and
in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one
that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto
me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Psalm 2:8 Ask of me, and I shall give to thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth
for thy possession.

Romans 15:19 Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and
round about to Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

Matthew 11:4, 5 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and show John again those things which ye do HEAR
and SEE: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are
raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

Isaiah 52:7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publish peace;
that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!

Romans 10:15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them
that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Ephesians 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.

John 4:35-37 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your
eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and
gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. And herein is
that saying true, One soweth and another reapeth.
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 5

Jeremiah 8:20 The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.

All roads do not lead to heaven. Because Jesus Christ and Christianity are the exclusive means of obtaining
salvation, it is imperative that the Gospel be taken to the ends of the earth.

Young man in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him. I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 10:8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.

1 Timothy 3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of
God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

Without exception, every person commissioned to preach the gospel, was dually charged to demonstrate the power
of God.

Matthew 10:7, 8 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the
lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give .

One of the five major points in the exceptional growth of Christianity at the time of its inception, was the abundant
evidence of the supernatural. Today is no different. The major growth factor is the manifestation of the
supernatural, the manifestation of the Spirit, the demonstration of the kingdom of God. Again, this is at the very
heart of Evangelism.

THE FALL OF MAN

Man was originally created in the form and likeness of God, with the primary purpose to fellowship with his God.
With the Fall of Man, this fellowship was severed. The intimacy with man and His God dissolved. A great void
resulted both in the heart of God and man. Man had formerly been the custodian of God's joy, now he had become
the instigator of great sadness.

How might this great chasm be spanned?

A representative of both God and man must be found. There was only one Person in the universe who possessed
this stringent qualification. No other being could be found in all of creation. The answer? The Son of God would
come to earth, forfeit His life, thereby making the required substitutionary sacrifice, and the gigantic gulf, the vast
void would be spanned. There resulted the Incarnation - God manifest in human flesh. The cruel cross of Calvary
became the meeting place, the point of reconciliation, the restitution of fellow- ship with the holy God and the
sinful man.

This is why the Lord Jesus Christ and Christianity are exclusive!

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men,
whereby we must be saved.

Philippians 2:9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every
name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under
the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Revelation 5:1-7 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the
backside, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open
the book, and to loose the seals thereof? And no man in heaven, nor in earth, was able to open the book, neither to
look thereon. And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look
thereon. And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David,
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 6

hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. And I beheld, and lo, in the midst of the
throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns
and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. And he came and took the book out
of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.

This is the primary motivation for Evangelism.

The sinful man is forgiven, redeemed, declared righteous, by the holy God Who created him. He can now stand in
the presence of his God as though he had never sinned!

This is a personal matter. No one can do this for another. Each individual must personally accept the Lord Jesus
Christ as Saviour. He alone must ask the forgiveness of sins. He alone must repent. Only in this manner can he be
saved from the future punishment of hell.

2 Corinthians 5:17, 21 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away;
behold, all things are become new. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made
the righteousness of God in him.

Galatians 3:6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.

Righteousness is the ability to stand before God, the devil, and your fellow man without any sense of guilt, lack,
inferiority, fear, and condemnation.

Only by receiving the Lord Jesus Christ into one's life in a personal manner can this be achieved.

SALVATION

The Greek word "SOZO" has a multiplicity of applications. It means to save from sin, sickness, danger, suffering, to
preserve, to protect, to heal, to make whole.

It has reference to the power of God to free the Christian from bondages in his life: To the protection of Christians
at the Second Coming of Christ: To the preservation of Israel: To the blessings on those who are in Christ: To
those who endure to the end: To those who stand at the judgment seat of Christ.

In this teaching, it is the application of salvation from sin with which we mainly concerned.

HELL

What happens to a person who deliberately and consciously rejects the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour?

The Bible teaches that he will end up in hell - spend an eternity without Christ, God the Father, and those of his
loved ones who have received Christ - are saved.

The understanding of this - that a fellow human being who does not receive Christ as personal Saviour, whose
ultimate destination is hell provides a powerful motivation for Evangelism.

Hell is not pleasant. We do not like to even think or talk about it. In fact, how long is it since you heard a message
preached on hell? Is it really important in the light of the "supposed advancement of knowledge and technology?"
Yes it is!

Jesus spoke more about hell than he did about heaven! He believed in it emphatically. As a Christian, no alternative
but to also believe in hell.

Think! Every person you meet, you see, you know, who has never been saved (from sin, from hell), is destined to
spend an eternity without Christ. Think of it!
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 7

One noted evangelist is on record as saying, "To complete the evangelistic and ministry training of my students, I
should like to dangle them over hell for three days."

Luke 16:19-31 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously
every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to
be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it
came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died,
and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his
bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his
finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou
in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art
tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from
hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore,
father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them,
lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let
them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And
he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the
dead.

Consider the unsaved as potential raw material with which God desires to work, moulding and fashioning,
painstakingly (re)creating the image of His Son in them. His objective? To bring that fully developed, redeemed,
creature into free, loving, caring, fellowship and relationship - precisely that which He had known with Adam, the
perfect man, before the fall.

The responsibility in Evangelism, therefore,is to provide God with the RAW MATERIAL.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to
usward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Romans 8:29 For who he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he
might be the firstborn among many brethren.

EVERY BELIEVER EVANGELISM

Should every believer be involved in the "front lines" of Evangelism? While the Great Commission applies to all,
and while every Christian is committed to the responsibility of winning the lost, as is emphasised in the following
verses of Scripture, it should be noted that the building of a team, similar to that employed by the armed forces, and
the observation of the bell curve, reveal that the local church is provided with a variety of functions and ministries,
operating together in a harmonious whole.

Some people will have a more pronounced gift in counselling, helps, teaching, administration.

This is not to be used by those who are seeking an opportunity to be released from the responsibility of "witnessing
for Christ," as an excuse.

Ezekiel 3:18-21 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor
speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man will die in his iniquity; but
his blood will I require at thine hand. Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his
wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. Again, When a righteous man doth turn
from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die: because thou
hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be
remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the
righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.

THE BELL CURVE

The Body of Christ

1 Corinthians 12:12, 14, 25, 27 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one
body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For the body is not one member, but many. That there should
be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. Now ye are the body
of Christ, and members in particular.

WHAT IS EVANGELISM?
Definition

To announce good news. To declare, bring glad, good tidings. To preach the gospel.

The word is derived from two root words meaning, (a) good, and (b) to bring tidings, a messenger. An evangelist is
a preacher of the gospel. To proclaim, to publish.

Gospel

A good message. The good news of the Kingdom of God and salvation offered through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Matthew 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the
kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

Matthew 9:35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the
gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations;
and then shall the end come.

Matthew 26:13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall
also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.

Mark 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;

Mark 1:14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of
God,

Mark 13:10 And the gospel must first be published among all nations.

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Acts 15:7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know
how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the
gospel, and believe.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone
that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 12

When one preaches, "Jesus no longer heals the sick; He no longer baptises people with the Holy Ghost" - This NOT
good news! This is not the gospel. The gospel is good news.

It is not good news for a blind man to hear that healing is not for him. What interest is it to him if Jesus never, at
any point in time healed blindness. To know that He once did, and now does not, that is not good news to him.

This can be repeated for any sickness or disease.

Likewise the Baptism of the Holy Ghost.

The gospel ( the good news ) is still the power of God unto salvation for everyone that believes.

The heart of the gospel is the Death, Burial and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. The liberating secret in the
life of every Christian is the principle of identification.......knowing that when the Lord Jesus died, the believer died
with him. When He was buried, the Christian was buried with him. When He rose from the dead, the once
defeated, dejected, despondent Christian also rose with him!
This is where the power of the gospel releases every follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 6:3-14 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the
glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the
likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified
with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is
freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Knowing that Christ
being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto
sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin,
but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should
obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield
yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto
God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Galatians 2:20 I am (have been) crucified with Christ: yet nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me:
and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for
me.

Believe - Confess (Reckon) - Know - Experience

When a drowning man cries for help, a lifeline is thrown to him.

When an unsaved person realises the fact that he is a sinner and needs help, this is the message, (the gospel) that
needs to be presented to him. When he sees it, he will reach out, and see himself "in Christ." Dead, Buried, and
Resurrected with Him.

The Supreme Task of the Church

A church that has a strong evangelistic emphasis is a healthy church. When the evangelistic thrust dies in a church,
that church will become introverted, and it will die. A strong safeguard for a growing church is reaching out to
others, in an endeavour to win the community to Christ.

Proverbs 11:1 False balance an abomination,

Discouraged Christian woman in Orepuki.

A church is primarily responsible for reaching its immediate environs, then its field of responsibility increases to
other parts of the state, the nation, the hemisphere, the world. Our commission is the WORLD. Our pulpit is the
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 13

WORLD. Our vision therefore must of necessity, be the WORLD.

Mark 16:15 Go ye into all the WORLD, and preach the gospel to EVERY creature.

Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations,
and then shall the end come.

THE PLAN

Acts 1:8 1. Jerusalem (Town/City/Suburb)

2. Judea (State)

3. Samaria (Nation)

4. The Uttermost Part of the Earth.

(Worldwide)

The church has not discharged its responsibility, until the Great Commission has been realised. May each
Christian, therefore, be found diligently involved in the accomplishment of this great task.

Prayer

Luke 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore
that the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

Psalm 127:1 Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the
watchman waketh but in vain.

Matthew 21:43 Therefore I say unto you, The kingdom of God shall from you, and given to a nation bringing
forth the fruits thereof.

Revelation 14:14-16 And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man,
having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. And another angel came out of the temple,
crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to
reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth
was reaped.

The most abundant harvests the Christian Church has ever seen, are lying right before it. The mightiest garners
(local churches - for winnowing, etc) have yet to be built. Indeed, Christianity stands on the thresh-hold of its
greatest influence in world history. Let every Christian determine to have an active part in these, the most exciting
(harvest) days of the Church.

Matthew 13:38, 39 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the
children of the wicked one; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; THE HARVEST IS THE END OF THE
WORLD; and the reapers are the angels.

gain the more. And unto the Jew I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as
under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; To them that are without the law, as without the law,
(being not without lawto God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. To the
weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I AM MADE ALL THINGS TO ALL MEN, that I might by
ALL MEANS SAVE SOME.

If what we are doing now is not reaching the community with the gospel, then we will still not be reaching it in 20
years time! We must be prepared to change, to adjust, to attempt new ways of reaching people for Christ.
Remember, our commission is to reach the world. What will work in one location will not of necessity work in
another. Be pliable. Be bold enough to try new approaches.

Here are some methods of Evangelism. Check the list. What ones have you tried? What would you like to try? See
what other ways you may add to your variety of approach.

THREE LEVELS OF EVANGELISM

Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 15

1. Invite people to attend your churcAnyone can do this. It is not threatening. It is a primary stage. By this
means people can be brought into a Christian environment, where others can be instrumental in winning them to
Christ.

A survey of a large Evangelistic Church we were with, revealed that upwards of 80% of people saved there, were
the result of personal invitations! Therefore, never underestimate
this form of Evangelism. It is by far the most successful. It yields the most fruit.

2. Talk to People About the Lord Jesus.

Sharing an experience from your own life is a powerful way of communicating. Perhaps how the Lord helped you
in overcoming loneliness, inferiority complex, fear, bondages in your life. These testimonies can result in
wonderful conversions to the Lord.

3. Lead a Person to Jesus Christ.

This is the ultimate of Evangelism. How to lead a person to the Lord is the object of Section 3.

John 1:40-42 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He
first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the
Christ. And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou
shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

The best time for a person to win his friends and loved ones to Christ, is as soon as he/she gets saved! They are on
fire for the Lord. Their enthusiasm is contagious. True, there will be seasons of over zealousness; There will be
times where a lack of wisdom is abundantly evident; There will be problems - BUT - There will be very pleasing
results. Teach him quickly. Encourage him. Let him go!

The average person has a circle of friends, loved ones, business acquaintances, etc, numbering in the vicinity of 250.
The tragedy is that once saved the bubbling new convert is sat down in the ranks, there to be indoctrinated,
discipled, shepherded, counselled, trained and whatever (?) until all the vital fire within is stifled, smothered, and all
but virtually extinguished. Then he is urged, "witness for the Lord", "win your loved ones to Christ", "set the world
on fire". How can he when he is as dead as everyone else in the church, and what endeavours are made are "cold
turkey?"

Tommy Hicks, the well known powerful evangelist, is much quoted for his saying:-

"I WOULD RATHER COOL DOWN A RED HOT FANATIC THAN WARM UP A DEAD CORPSE!"

How true this is in Evangelism.

Winning the person to Christ is only the first of many steps. The new convert should be established in a vibrant local
church, there making a positive contribution to it. There is nothing like having a new addition to the family. His first
love, joy, and enthusiasm will stimulate the whole church.

BUILDING CONFIDENCE

The greatest confidence builder is to work with another who is successful. To observe what they do. On the Job
Training is the best available.

Jesus gave this type of training to his disciples for 3 1/2 years before sending them forth. They turned the world
upside down.

It far supersedes theory. It gets the job done.

Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 16

The initial steps on your own may appear feeble, awkward, incoherent. Keep at it. Irrespective of failure, seeming
ineffectiveness, and no results, stick to it.

Practice makes Perfect.

Matthew 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Nothing succeeds like success! Oh, the joy when that first soul is won to Christ. The response thunders through
the corridors of heaven.

Luke 15:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is JOY in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that
repenteth.

There is no greater joy than the joy of the soul winner.

I used to sell brushes, cleaning fluid, Bibles, books, door to door I hated it. I would be repeatedly told "NO!"
Not many people can take that continual rejection. I forced myself to do it. I would force myself to think of
different approaches in order to introduce, enthuse and sell my products. I had a lot of fun in my experiments. I led
a person to the Lord on one occasion. It takes a certain breed to be a direct selling sales-person.

Later, I conducted religious surveys. This work was very revealing. I hated that also, but I did it. I worked at it.
I kept working at it. It built confidence. You can do it too. Keep at it. Overcome the fear of knocking on doors
by knocking on doors. Do the very thing you fear. You have nothing to fear but fear itself!

THE WOMAN AT THE WELL JOHN 4:5-24

Observe this majestic lesson of the Master, in teaching spiritual truth from the natural example.

Natural water to spiritual water. "He would have given thee LIVING water."

The woman does not understand. She offers, "Thou hast nothing to draw with. The well is deep. Where is this
LIVING water?"

"Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be
in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."

"Give me this water."

She confuses natural water with spiritual water.

1 Corinthians 15:46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that
which is spiritual.

She is not alone in her confusion.

John 3:3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be
born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old?
can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that
which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. Nicodemus answered
and said unto him, How can these things be? Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and
knowest not these things? If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of
heavenly things?
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 17

Nicodemus confused natural birth with spiritual birth.

Matthew 16:5-7,12 And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. Then
Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. And they reasoned
among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread. Then understood they how that he bade them not
to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

The disciples confused natural leaven with spiritual leaven - false teaching!

John 6:48-58 I am that bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the
bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I am the living bread which came
down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh,
which I will give for the life of the world. The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, HOW CAN THIS
MAN GIVE US HIS FLESH TO EAT? Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the
flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood,
hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. As the living Father hath sent me,
and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. This is that bread which came down from
heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

The Jews confused natural bread, (flesh)-, and blood, with its spiritual counterpart.

The Lord Jesus creates a hunger in the woman for the LIVING water. So much so, that she will go to any length to
procure it.

"Go, call thy husband."

The woman had explained to our Lord that the well was deep. Indeed it was. Now he would take the spiritual
application, and show her just how deep it was. He plummeted the depths within her soul. He could not go lower.

If you're hungry enough, you will pay the price.

As with many of us, when the truth begins to strike home, when things get too close to the mark, when it starts to
hurt, we change the subject!

"Our fathers worshipped in this mountain."

Worship DRAWS God! Both internally and externally.

What a powerful lesson. Living water. Deep. Draw.

Commence a conversation with the natural, apply spiritual applications, and you will see many receive the Saviour!

ONE ON ONE

In the Gospel of John, Jesus spoke with 28 people. Only four of these he dealt with publicly. 24 were on a personal
basis. One to One! This is 7 times the emphasis on personal evangelism as on the mass crusades! One to One is
the most effective and cost efficient method of winning souls to Christ.

If you were the only Christian in the world - there was no Billy Graham or Yongi Cho - not one other Christian - did
you know that if you won one soul to Christ a day, for 34! days, and these people were taught how to win others to
Christ, and they in turn taught and won others - the entire world - FIVE BILLION people would be won to Christ!

A five week campaign would win the world to Christ.

This is the law of compound multiplication. It reveals the explosive principle of geometric progression.

This is theory. But it does serve to illustrate the tremendous potential of the One on One principle. What benefit,
therefore, exists in the motivation of the active force (80% in the Bell Curve) in Evangelism.

Do you want your church to Grow?

One on One

Is the best way to go!

For expenditure of effort, time, cost, tor results achieved, One on One is by far the best method of Evangelism. The
reason for this - it is one of God's methods.

MISSIONS
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 19

The gigantic input into world missions by Britain and the United States, together with other nations, has been a
highly creditable performance.

However, in talks with many missionaries over recent years, it has become abundantly evident that the traditional
missionary concept is undergoing vast and shattering changes. The concept of training nationals, that they in turn
can reach their nations for Christ, is a major step in the right direction.

The national needs not to learn the language. He need make no change in dietary food. He understands the culture
of his people. He is relatively cheap to support economically. He can get the job done faster. He can provide
"on-the-job training" for others, that they in turn can instruct and develop other soul winners.

APOSTOLIC COMPANIES

With the restoration of the foundational ministry of the Apostle, we can confidently expect to see Apostolic
Companies travelling on a worldwide basis.
Rather than the "missionary" spend his life in the darkened jungles, plodding away, endeavouring to make inroads
in heathen nations, concocting a report each month to be sent home to his "board" - in glowing terms of course, for
fear that his financial support might be withdrawn, and he be left to fend for himself in some foreign land, teams, or
companies can make a far greater impact in a lesser period of time.

Elders, deacons and various supporting ministries, a company moving into an area, forms the base on which
expansion will come.

Several examples of this tremendous principle can be cited in the United States.

Throughout the Book of Acts and other writings, the Apostle Paul can be seen moving in a team environment.
This has many decided advantages over the "one man band", endeavouring to make an impact in a community.

HOW TO MAKE FRIENDS

Winning Souls By Making Friends

Luke 16:9 And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail,
they may receive you into everlasting habitations.

Many times as Christians we are asked to invite friends to a special meeting that our church is organising. But the
tragic facts are that most Christians do not have current unsaved friends to invite. We have become so involved in
church life and fellow Christians, that we have lost contact with the unsaved and no longer have influence for Christ
in our neighbourhoods.

We need to learn the art of winning friends,so that in turn we may introduce them to the best Friend and the greatest
Friend that they will ever know.

Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer
than a brother.

We need to win people to ourselves first, and then as we live His life before them, we earn the right to speak to them
about their eternal destiny.

Luke 16:9 (quoted above) explains that we are to use our finances, (material blessings), to win friends.

The New International Version translates, "Use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourself."

Use what we have:-

(a) Our car to give a ride to a workmate who has no means of transportation.

(b) Our food to cook a meal for a sick neighbour.

(c) Our truck and time to help a friend move house.

Use this space to list some of your own ideas:-

(d)

(e)

(f)

(g)
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 21

(h)

It may require a step of faith to believe God for extra finances to win friends, but God promises that as we give it
will be given back to us.

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running
over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you
again.

Proverbs 14:20 The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.

Proverbs 19:4 Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.

Ecclesiastes 9:13-16 This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me: There was a little
city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against
it. Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that
same poor man. Then said I, wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and
his words are not heard.

No man remembered this poor wise man. How many of you take counselling from beggars? People are drawn to
success.

We are told in the Word to go out and preach the the gospel to every creature. We have the wisdom of God in the
Word of God, we have the mind of Christ, we have the truth and we are the light of men. If you were poor, living
in a little apartment, with one suit with holes in it; your shoes had holes in them, you were sick, and your only
means of transport was a bicycle that had a flat, why should anyone listen to you.

Can you imagine witnessing to someone, saying, "You need to come and get saved. It's wonderful to be saved.
Look at me!" The person will probably say, "No thankyou, I have enough problems of my own."

I am not saying that if you are poor you can not witness for Jesus. What I am saying is that the image you portray
to the world around you of Christ whom you serve is important.

I believe as children of the King, we should rise up and take hold of the promises of God and live as God intended.

Part of the blessing God promises if we would hear His Word and obey it is that we would lend and not borrow.

Deuteronomy 28:12 The Lord shall open to thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his
season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (Living Bible) But remember this - if you give little, you will get little. A farmer who
plants just a few seeds will get only a small crop, but if he plants much, he will reap much. Everyone must make up
his own mind how much he should give. Don't force anyone to give more than he really wants to, for cheerful givers
are the ones God prizes. God is able to make it up to you by giving you everything you need and more, so that there
will not only be enough for your own needs, but plenty left over to give joyfully to others.

Proverbs 18:24 A man (that hath) friends must show himself friendly.

(Give and it shall be given.)

TWO ASPECTS OF MAKING FRIENDS

1. To be consciously working at it.

Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 22

2. To be available.

For the first,we actively and consciously seek common grounds on which an acquaintance or friendship can be built
- not necessarily in the framework of church oriented affairs, eg., school, children, hobby, work. We may have to
accompany them to something they are interested in, eg., Tupperware, fishing, etc. They will then feel obliged to
go somewhere with you, eg., church meeting, barbecue, etc.

For the second, we need to develop a listening ear, and be prepared to lay aside our own desires and plans if they
have a need.

Proverbs 17:17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

When a friend faces something in life which is difficult, he/she is far more open to listen, and we have the answer to
all problems, and His name, Jesus.

2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God,
and not of us.

Luke 7:34 The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber,
friend of publicans and sinners.

Consider how many publicans and sinners, Jesus introduced the Way of eternal life to!

Matthew 5:13-16 Ye are the salt of the earth but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is
thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world.
A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a
candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see
your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

It is not enough to do good works only, but we must let our light shine (testify) on them. Otherwise people will
assume we have been 'goodies' all our life - that it just happens to be our nature, or what we consider to be the right
thing to do.

Season your conversation with salt - not too much - this will spoil the flavour, but enough to make them thirsty so
that they will ask for a drink of the Water of Life.

Luke 16:8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world
are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

This is an art. Have to plan and use wisdom, eg., catching fish.

Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and
harmless as doves.

Daniel 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to
righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

Luke 16:9 And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteous- ness; That, when ye
fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.

This literally means,'when IT shall fail" - in other words, when your money is no longer any use to you, and your
time on this earth is over and you are ushered into eternity, those friends whom you have won to Christ with your
money, will be your welcoming committee to receive you into heaven. What a reward!!!
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 23

Determine today that you will use your material blessings to make a friend that you can win to Christ.

STEPS IN WINNING YOUR NEW FOUND FRIEND TO CHRIST

1. Decide on one definite person.

2. Start scheming (planning) ways that you can be-friend that person.

3. Determine that you will be a real friend whenever that person needs you.

4. Start praying for their salvation daily.

5. Start praying that God will give you wisdom in what to say and when.

Get excited! Believe God to see them won for the Lord Jesus. Then there will be another soul rescued from the
pit, and now on God's side.
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 24

HOW TO LEAD A PERSON TO CHRIST

A recent survey revealed the staggering information:

10% of church members cannot be found...anywhere!

20% never attend a service.

25% admit they never pray.

35% admit they never read their Bible.

40% never contribute to the church.

60% never study any religious material.

75% never assume any responsibility in their church.

85% never invited an one else to church.

95% NEVER WON ANOTHER PERSON TO CHRIST .

100% expect to go to heaven!!!

Think! 95% of all Christians have never led a soul to Christ. If you have led just one soul to Christ, you are
among the top 5% of soul winners in the world.

The reason why people find themselves in this tragic 95% category is THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO LEAD A
PERSON TO CHRIST. And the unfortunate reason that they do not know HOW, is because nobody has ever taught
them!

2 Timothy 2:2 The things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful
men, who shall be able to teach others also.

The further tragedy is that it is very simple to lead a person to Christ - once you know how.

The Plan of Salvation

1. Establish the Fact of Sin.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

2. Show the Penalty of Sin.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death;

3. The Penalty has Been Paid.

Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 25

Romans 6:23 but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

4. Accept God's Provision.

Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come
in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

These three verses are all you need to know to win a soul to Jesus Christ.

The Plan in Winning a Soul to Christ

(a) Advantages of a plan. (If you don't have a plan, and are winning many souls to Christ, then keep proceeding
the way you are. If you are not winning the lost and would like to then consider these advantages.

1. It provides you with an overall picture of where you are going.

2. If for some reason you become side-tracked, you can pick up your track immediately.

3. It will lead you to the vital question, "Will you allow the Lord Jesus to come into your life? Will you accept
Him as your personal Saviour, NOW?"

4. Like the Lord, you will be diligent in your endeavour to win the lost. God has a plan. The devil has a plan.
Architects have plans. In fact, nothing happens in this world, that in some way or another, it was planned.
Shouldn't you have a plan, for the most important work on earth?

5. It allows the progression from one step to another smoothly.

THE PLAN

1. Establish the Fact of Sin.

Worker's New Testament. Underline verses in red. Show your potential Christian - let him see for himself. Use
your sword - don't explain it. Ask, "How many sins does it take to make a sinner?" Answer, "One!" "Have you
ever committed a sin?" "Sure, who hasn't?" "Then by your own admission, you are a sinner." "Sure, who isn't?"

2. Show the Penalty of Sin.

Let him see the verse. "If you work for someone, you expect to get paid (wages), right?" "That's right". "You are
going to be paid for your sin Look, right here, God says your wages are death. God says death is separation. Your
sin has separated you from God. If you continue the way you are going, your final destination will be an eternity
without Christ, a life in hell. You don't want that do you?" "No."

3. Show That the Penalty Has Been Paid.

"Here is some wonderful news. Look, (pointing to the verse) the penalty has been paid. Someone has paid it for
you. Did you know that some years ago a Judge in New York City, Judge McWhirter, fined a man in his court
room for being a vagrant? The man had nothing with which to pay. Then something wonderful happened. The
Judge left the bench, and stood alongside the guilty man in the dock, and paid his fine for him! Isn't that
wonderful? The man's Judge became his saviour. He paid the penalty for him! This is what has been done for
you. You are guilty. I am guilty. The whole world is guilty, and the tragedy is we have nothing with which to
pay our fine! But look, Jesus Christ, our Judge, left heaven's glory, died upon the cruel cross of Calvary, thereby
paying the penalty for our sin. Acquittal is in Jesus Christ. Eternal life is in Him. You would receive Jesus Christ
as your personal Saviour, to receive eternal life, wouldn't you?" "Yes, of course."
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 26

Assist Him in Accepting God's Provision, God's Saviour, the One and Only Source of Salvation.

Turning to your third and final verse, say, "Jesus Christ is standing outside the door of your life, NOW" (point to the
place) "He is seeking admission. Will you let him in. Will you receive the the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal
Saviour and Lord? He is waiting."

The Response

"Yes". Pray a simple prayer for salvation, being careful to ask for the forgiveness of sins (repentance), and thanking
the Lord for the gift of eternal life.

2. "No." Make the person aware of what they are rejecting....God's Son, eternal life, heaven. Make the person
aware of what they are accepting.... Hell, eternal separation from loved ones who are Christians, a Christless
eternity.

3. They hesitate. They want time to think about it. Perhaps when they are older.

2 Corinthians 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured
thee: behold, NOW IS THE ACCEPTED TIME; behold, NOW IS THE DAY OF SALVATION.

Acts 26:28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.

Almost is not good enough. It is close, but not close enough.

Luke 17:32 Remember Lot's wife.

She almost made it, but she didn't. She was almost saved, but she wasn't.

Place your hand on their shoulder, saying, "Allow me to assist you. Please follow me in this prayer. Pray these
words after me."

There are a multitude of variations to this plan. You have the skeleton. You may dress it any way you wish.
Above all put the plan into practice. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Demonstration

You Do It. You Do It. You Do It. You Do It.

THE SINNER'S PRAYER

"Oh, God, be merciful to me a sinner. I am truly sorry for my sins. I repent of them. I turn my back on them. I
renounce them. I turn to You. I thank You that I have heard Your voice speaking to my life. I willingly open the
door of my life to You. I ask You to come into my life, and save me. I thank You for coming in. I thank You for
saving me. I thank You for the gift of eternal life. Lord Jesus, I accept You as my personal Saviour and Lord. I
pray that from this moment on, other people will see You in my life. Thankyou that I am saved now! Amen."

ASSURANCE OF SALVATION

Many new converts have serious doubts, and crippling fears of their salvation within 24 hours after their decision.
Therefore, it is very wise to spend a few moments encouraging them from the SCRIPTURES, as to the reality and
the validity of their new found life in Christ.

Revelation 3:20 What did Jesus say He would do if you heard his voice, and opened the door of your life to Him?
"He said He would come in." What has He done then? "He has come in." Are you sure? "Yes" How do you
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 27

know? "Because He said He would." Would Jesus lie to you? "No." Then you know He has come into your life,
not because of some feeling or emotional experience, but because H e said he would? "Yes."

What you are doing here is anchoring the new convert's faith in the integrity of the Bible, the Word of the Lord, that
can not fail. This is the wisest counsel you can give. When he is attacked by his new enemy, when his mind is
assailed with doubt, when he sincerely believes the Devil's lie that he is not saved, he will be able to counter with the
Word of the Lord, the Sword of the Spirit.

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that
believe on his name.

Your new convert has received Christ. On this basis alone, He (Christ), grants the power (the right) to become a
child of God. He,(the convert), believes on His name.

1 John 5:11, 12 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that
hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

Here is a powerful verse for the elimination of doubts concerning the granting of eternal life. Eternal life is in
Jesus, the Son God. Receive Him, and you receive eternal life. Salvation, the only source thereof, is in Jesus the
Son.

A CORRECT DECISION FOR CHRIST

A correct decision for Jesus Christ, is exactly the same as good preaching. Four elements are involved.

1. A good message should inform the intellect. (Not insult it.) Unless a person's intellect is informed, his decision
for Christ will be emotional only. He will not understand what is happening to him. True, receiving Christ can be
a very emotional experience. Notwithstanding, the mind must be informed.

2. A good message must stir the emotions. On the other end of the scale, if a person's
heart (emotions) are not involved, the salvation will be intellectual (head knowledge) only. This will refuse to be
life changing.

3. A good message must challenge the will. In order to be saved, there must be a bending, a yielding, a laying
aside of the human will. It must forgo its own desires in subordination to the will of God. How many older
Christians experience problems here also.

Luke 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and
sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

4. A good message must bring people to a decision, NOW! Likewise a new convert must decide to do something
about that old life, NOW. He must turn from the past. He must be prepared to forgive, and forget the past. He must
be prepared to confront all that his new found faith in Christ will bring. There is no turning back. He has counted
the cost. He must go forward.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are sassed away; behold,
all things are become new.

Here lies the heart of true repentance. There can be no true conversion without repentance.
Repent simply means "TO CHANGE YOUR MIND." You cannot turn from something, without of necessity
turning to something.

To Christ To Christ

From Sin From Sin

2 Corinthians 7:9, 10 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were
made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. For godly sorrow worketh
repentance to salvation to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

One of the major concerns of Martin Luther was that, "In the last days salvation would be offered with no
repentance."

Of the seven churches in the Book of Revelation, five were commanded to repent by the Lord Jesus.

Repentance, therefore, is not something unique to the inquirer seeking salvation. It is an attitude that should be
highly developed in every Christian. It is the foundation of humility.

Crocodile tears, Stewart Island.

CONCLUDING OBSERVATIONS

From the natural point of view, when a person receives the Lord Jesus Christ, it is quite a remarkable thing.

'Jesus Christ is standing outside your life right now.' The potential Christian doesn't see him.

'I would like to introduce you to my greatest Friend, the Lord Jesus Christ.' No one speaks,, no one extends a hand,
no one gives acknowledgement. Yet, no one laughs. No one thinks it strange. No one considers something unusual
happening! Why? The Holy Spirit will not allow this to occur. You do your job. Allow the Holy Spirit to do His.
A new birth in the Kingdom of God will result. Do not try to do the Holy Spirit's work. (Conviction, etc.)

In the sinner's prayer, I endeavour to include the following:-

1. Repentance. (Mentioned above.)

2. Thank the Lord Jesus for the gift of Eternal Life. (It has been shown that when people are insincere in praying
the prayer, the Holy Spirit will not allow them to say this.)

I pray that from this moment on, other people will see Jesus in my life. (Encourages them to make some sort of
effort.)

THE MINISTRY OF THE EVANGELIST

Definition

A preacher of the gospel (good news). To announce good news. Declare, bring, glad (good) tidings.

The Ministry

Acts 21:8 And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, and came to Caesarea: and we entered into
the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him.

What did Philip do?

Acts 8:5-8,12 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. And the people with
one accord gave heed to those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For
unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with
palsies, and that were lame, were healed. And there was great joy in that city. But when they believed Philip
preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men
and women.

Upon hearing that Samaria had received the Word of God, Peter and John were commissioned to pray that these new
converts might be filled with the Holy Ghost.

Acts 8:26-40 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that
goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an
eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had
come to Jerusalem for to worship, Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Isaiah the prophet. Then the Spirit
said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the
prophet Isaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? And he said, How can I, except some man should
guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. The place of the scripture which he read
was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: In
his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the
earth. And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speakest the prophet this? of himself, or of
some other man? Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See here is water; what doth
hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered
and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went
down both into the water, both Philip, and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of
the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way
rejoicing. But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to
Caesarea.

How many "big name evangelists" today would not be obedient to the Spirit of the Lord to speak to only one man?
Not enough in the offerings. I a waste of time to go there. Too small. No, that can't be God that would want me
to do this. These are some of the lame excuses that are offered in an effort to appease the conscience of the
disobedient will.

Who knows what ministry God will raise up in the earth as the obedience of an evangelist leading a solitary soul to
Christ is enacted?

2 Timothy 4:5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of

the ministry.

Whenever the Lord sent an evangelist to preach the gospel, he also equipped and commissioned him to heal the sick
and cast out devils.

Matthew 10:1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits,
to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

Luke 10:17-20 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through
thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to
tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy : and nothing by any means shall hurt you.
Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are
written in heaven.

JESUS CHRIST, THE MODEL EVANGELIST

Matthew 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to
call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to
save sinners: of whom I am chief.

Luke 15:7, 10 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over
ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the
angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

John 12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

Luke 4:18, 19 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hat anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he
hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to
set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Matthew 11:19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a
winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

Matthew 21:31, 32 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto
them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

What a contrast to Matthew 23.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! vs. 13, 14, 15, 23, 27, 29.

Woe unto you, ye blind guides, v 16, 24

Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 32

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the
beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.

The scathing rebuke of the Master NEVER fell on the sinners' ears, but regularly on the religious.

John 8:10, 11 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where
are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, no man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither
do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Mark 2:10, 11 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick
of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thy house.

The evangelist carries a message that is positive AND NEGATIVE.

Consider Jesus' messages to the Seven Churches.

Positive - Negative - Positive.

Proverbs 11:1 A false balance is an abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight.

Luke 6:26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.

The evangelist will carry a balanced message of love and judgment. When excess occurs in either direction -
BEWARE!

THE FIVE FOLD MINISTRY

THE EVANGELIST IS PART OF THE FIVE FOLD MINISTRY ORDAINED TO BRING THE CHURCH TO
MATURITY

As such, he has a vital ministry to the Body of Christ, as well as to the unsaved.

He stimulates and stirs, injecting life, encouragement and enthusiasm into the church.

Ephesians 4:11-13 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some evangelists; and some, pastors and
teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till
we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure
of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

1 Corinthians 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers,
after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

FRUIT OF THE EVANGELIST

1. Souls Won to Christ.

2. Strengthening the Church.

3. Joy, Harmony, Unity, in the Church.

4. Involved in the Mass Crusade, Yet Open to the Spirit of God to Minister One on One.

HOSPITALITY
The Oxford Dictionary defines hospitality as 'being friendly, liberal, to a reception of guests or strangers.'

A friendly reception is to show Christian goodness, Christian love, Christian fellowship, Christian understanding, to
give one's self for the blessing of others.

In the Early Church. souls were added in the homes.

Acts 2:41-46 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto
them about three thousand souls. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in
breaking of bread, Sand in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the
apostles. And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and
parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and
breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart.

The Word of God has much to say about hospitality. Our homes belong to God, and if we will be prepared to open
them for Christ, they can become a key for reaching the masses for the Lord.

GOD REQUIRES US TO BE HOSPITABLE

Romans 12:13 Distributing to the necessity of saints: given to hospitality.

Given = present participle, expresses repeated or continuous action.

1 Peter 4:9 Use hospitality to one another without grudging.

HOSPITALITY IS REQUIRED IN LEADERSHIP

1 Timothy 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour,
given to hospitality, apt to teach;

Titus 1:8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;

GOD SETS THE EXAMPLE: HE IS A HOSPITABLE GOD

Psalm 23:5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil;
my cup runneth over.

Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will
come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Sup = The principal (evening) meal.

Song of Solomon 2:4 He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.

House = Mansion, palace, temple.

If this hospitable God lives in me, then it should make a difference: it should show the same quality in us!
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 34

Hospitality is an essential aspect of God's personality. It is to be built into Christian living, becoming a real and
vital part
of it.

James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in
their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

THE POTENTIAL OF HOSPITALITY

Hospitality is a powerful instrument of God.

1. It provides an opportunity to demonstrate Christian love.

2. It provides an opportunity for either a new Christian, or the unsaved to sense that unique atmosphere found in
the love of the righteous.

3. It provides an opportunity to share Christ.

4. A great element for the companionship of the lonely.

5. It encourages unity.

6. To encourage many new Christians to press on for God.

7. It provides opportunities for questions to be asked or answered.

8. People gain a special understanding of belonging.

9. Firm friendships can be established through sharing and fellowship.

As we become hospitable, and win people to ourselves, this will earn the right to speak to them about Christ.

Isaiah 32:8 But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.

We need, therefore, to plan and scheme.

Proverbs 3:27 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.

The power of hospitality is in our hands! Hospitality creates an atmosphere for the Spirit of the Lord to move. In
hospitality, we provide a pipeline for the oil of God's Spirit to flow down. God moves when His people give.
Giving is the great aspect of hospitality.

Remember: Matthew 25:31-46 Verse 40. And the king shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you,
Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Luke 10:38-42 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman
named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus feet, and
heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care
that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto
her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath
chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Martha was grumbling: she was not showing the hospitality that Mary was.

Here are revealed the two distinct parts of hospitality.

Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 35

1. Menial

2. Fellowship. Fellowship is the greater part. Jesus could share the secrets of His heart.

The emphasis is on love and fellowship! We need to spend more time in heart preparation than in meal
preparation.

IT IS POSSIBLE TO ENTERTAIN GUESTS AND NOT SHOW HOSPITALITY

1. When the guests are left to entertain themselves.

2. When the atmosphere is stiff and starchy, cold, formal, and unfriendly.

3. Everybody is still hungry when dinner is over.

4. The conversation ends up in an argument or debate.

5. If guests arrive at afternoon tea time and this wasn't served.

REASONS WHY WE GRUDGE

1 Peter 4:9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.

1. Expense. Step out, and believe God. Prove Him.

2. Effort.

3. Too Busy. The answer lies in simplicity.

Romans 12:8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with
diligence; he that showeth mercy, with cheerfulness.

Mark 9:41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I
say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.

A cup of water - what could be more simple?

Luke 4:12-14 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends,
nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again and a recompense be
made thee. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be
blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

Invite the poor. They can not recompense you.

EXAMPLES OF HOSPITALITY

1. Abraham

Genesis 18:1-8 And the Lord appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of
the day; And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to
meet them from the tent door, and he bowed himself toward the ground, and said, My Lord, if now I have found
favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant: Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 36

your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree: And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after
that ye shall pass on: for there fore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said. And
Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and
make cakes upon the hearth. And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a
young man; and he hasted to dress it. And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it
before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.

2. Lot

Genesis 19:1-3 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing
them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground; And he said, Behold now, my
lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up
early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night. And he pressed upon
them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he did make them a feast, and did bake
unleavened bread,and they did eat.

3. Laban

Genesis 24:29-33 And Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban: and Laban ran out unto the man, unto the
well. And it came to pass, when he saw the earring and bracelets upon his sister's hands, and when he heard the
words of Rebekah his sister, saying, Thus spake the man unto me; that he came unto the man; and, behold, he stood
by the camels at the well. And he said, Come in, thou blessed of the Lord; wherefore standest thou without? for I
have prepared the house, and room for the camels. And the man came into the house: and he ungirded his camels,
and gave straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the men's feet that were with him.
And there was set meat before him to eat: but he said, I will not eat, until I have told mine errand. And he said,
Speak on.

4. Manoah

Judges 13:15 And Manoah said unto the angel of the Lord, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made
ready a kid for thee.

5. Widow Woman

1 Kings 17:8-16 And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to
Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee. So he arose and went to
Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and
he called her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. And as she was going to
fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand. And she said, As the Lord
thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but a handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am
gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. And Elijah said
unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me,and after
make for thee and thy son. For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall
the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth. And she went and did according to the
saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days. And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did
the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.

Elijah required that the widow woman feed him FIRST. She had hospitality in her heart! Why didn't Elijah go to
the wealthy? He had never seen her before. Why did God send him to this widow woman? God rewarded her
giving, meagre though it was. He honoured the principle of giving to God first.

Luke 4:25, 26 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut
up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; but unto none of them was Elias sent,
save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.

6. Great Woman
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 37

2 Kings 4:8-10 And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a GREAT WOMAN; and she
constrained him to eat bread. And it was so, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread. And she
said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually. Let
us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a
candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.

This great woman made room for God. She was abundantly rewarded. In the senior years of her life she became a
mother. The child subsequently died, but was raised to life by Elisha.

This hospitable woman constrained the man of God to eat bread. She built a room specially for him. She was
liberal. She planned liberal things. She reaped the benefit in time of need.

7. Nehemiah

Nehemiah 5:17, 18 Moreover there were at my table an hundred and fifty of the Jews and rulers, beside those that
came unto us from among the heathen that are about us. Now that which was prepared for me daily was one ox and
six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this
required not I the bread of the governor, because the bondage was heavy upon this people.

Nehemiah entertained 150 every day, plus strangers.

8. Jesus

Mark 6:41 And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and
brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.

Jesus fed (entertained) 5,000 guests at one meal!

9. Jesus

Mark 8:9 And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.

A further 4,000 were shown the hospitality of the Lord.

10. Jesus and His Disciples

Matthew 9:10 And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and
sat down with him and his disciples.

Jesus and His disciples entertained many publicans and sinners.

11. Mary

Mark 14:3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an
alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.

In the house of Simon, Mary broke the alabaster box, and poured the contents on the head of the Lord.

There are still those among us today, who are quick to exclaim that any anointing of our Head, the Lord Jesus, is
simply a waste of time and money!

12. Zacchaeus

Luke 19:2, 5, 6, 9 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and
he was rich. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up,and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 38

haste, and come down; for today I must abide at thy house. And he made haste, and came down, and received him
joyfully. And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of
Abraham.

Much of the Gospel story takes place in people's homes. Zacchaeus and his house were transformed.

13. Two Disciples on the Way to Emmaus.

Luke 24:29 And they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent.
And he went in to tarry with them.

These two disciples would never have beheld the Lord, except for their hospitable attitude.

HOSPITALITY SITUATIONS

Hospitality can be shown anywhere.

1. The Home.

2. The Office.

3. Treat them in a Coffee Lounge.

4. Take them to a Restaurant.

5. Take them to a Private Spot.

Hebrews 13:1, 2 Let brotherly love continue. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have
entertained angels unawares.

Entertain strangers - break out from your clique of friends and associates. God loves the stranger. Hospitality is a
ministry that God has given each of us. It needs to be developed in our lives.

Do it! Don't talk about it. Become a doer of the Word.

Many a bedroom has been turned into a counselling room. Many a lounge has been turned into a chapel and prayer
room.

Through hospitality alone the world could be virtually turned upside down!

Hospitality, for both results and cost effectiveness, has to be the most powerful and the most efficient form of
Evangelism known to the Church.

HOW TO CONDUCT AN EVANGELISTIC

MEETING
FIRST EVANGELISTIC CRUSADE, WANGANUI, N.Z., 1960

Saved Six Months.

What Would Jesus Do?

Booked Hall For Three Weeks. (Advertised for One.)

Faces of Maori Carvings. Dilated Eyes. Tongues Sticking Out.

Crusade Team. Dropped Out After Three Nights.

I Opened the Hall Each Following Night. Welcomed Guests. Lead the Songs. Provided the Music, (Trumpet). Gave
the Announcements. Raised the Offering. Preached. Prayed For Enquirers. Turned the Lights Off. Locked the Door.

First Night 60 Present. Preached, "Repent, You Bunch of Vipers! Who Warned You to Flee From The Wrath to
Came?" I Did! I Advertised in the Newspapers.

Twelve Present the Second Night! Several of the Crusade Team Missing. I was Having a Revival in Reverse. None
of the Original 60 Were Present. I was Heartbroken. I Would Pray All Day, Believing God For Souls, Healing, and
a Mighty Visitation of His Spirit.

The Fourth Night, I Had One! A Dear Little old Methodist Lady in a Blue Hat and Coat. I Preached to Her Like a
House on Fire. After the Meeting She Said, "I can't understand why the people are not coming?" "Neither do I," I
Responded. I Understand Now.

One Night I Advertised, "Where Did Cain Get His Wife? How To Give Up Smoking. The Second Coming of
Christ. How to Break the Alcohol Habit." Great Messages to Draw People to Christ!

Undaunted, I Would Pray All Day, Believing God For the Next Night. After all, I Was moving Progressively to the
Major Event in the Crusade, the Sunday Afternoon Healing Meeting.

Conducted in the Brand New, Prestigious, "'War Memorial Hall." Large Padded Seats. Accommodated 450. 80
Present, (98% Old Ladies, the Youngest, 65.)

The Meeting Was Scheduled to Commence at 2.30pm. By 2.25 the Song Leader Had Not Arrived. (Some of the
Crusade Team Had Rallied For This Last Ditch Effort.) "He's Not Here." "Where Is He?" I Enquired. I Had
Advertised For This Meeting That God Would Heal the Sick, Open Blind Eyes, Unstop Deaf Ears, Even RAISE
THE DEAD! Nothing Was Impossible to Him. "His Boy Has Swallowed a Tube of Toothpaste. He Has Just
Taken Him to The Hospital to Have His Stomach Pumped Out!" And I Had Advertised That God Would Raise the
Dead!

Lois Would Lead Songs, Then. That Would Solve This Problem.
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 40

''Where's the Organist?" "She's Not Here." "Where is She?" "She Has Just Fallen Over And Broken Her Wrist.
She is at the Hospital Having it Set in Plaster." Can You Imagine This! And God is Going to Raise the Dead?

How About Imagining Lois Leading the Songs With No Music!

The Song Service Concluded, The Announcements Given, The Eager Congregation Awaited the Major Event, 'The
Appearance of God's Man of Faith And Power.' And Here He Comes.

I Had Laboured For Hours Committing to Memory Evangelist T.L. Osborn's 'Cream of Divine Healing Truths.'
This 45 Minute Masterpiece Had Somehow Shrivelled to 10 Minutes. After a Brief Introduction I Arrived at the
Main Body of the Message - The Five Major Points. I Was Launched:-

"Point One, the Bible says......."

I Felt Like the Man Who Had Brushed His Teeth With Gunpowder. ' I Shot My Mouth Off.'

Oh, Well, I Could Always Move to the Altar Call. At Least I Could Catch Some Spiritual Fish For The Lord.

"Every Head Bowed, Every Eye Closed. No one Looking Around. No One Talking. Every One Completely Still
in This Sacred Moment. This is an Eternal Moment of Destiny." At Least I Got That Right.

Gazing Out Over That Vast Congregation, I Felt Sure I Was Fulfilling My Destiny, "Where is That Hand? Who is
Going to be the First to Respond to Christ?" Not One. Not One! NOT ONE!!!

I Pressed On. This Was the Moment Everyone Had Waited For. The Opportunity For God to Demonstrate His
Power. The Time For God to Heal All in This Assembly. (It Was The Largest Meeting of the Crusade - 80.)
Signs, Wonders and Miracles!

To My Amazement No One Responded! Well, This Moment Was at Least Consistent With the Rest of the
Crusade. Nothing.

Finally, One Little Crippled Boy on Crutches Made His Way to The Altar, Accompanied by His Mother. He Had
Been Prayed For by the Experts. Never Mind, Let God's Man of Faith and Power Pray For Him. I prayed With All
the Compassion, All the Faith, All the Feeling I knew How. No Response. Absolutely Nothing. I Felt
Embarrassed.

Only One Final Act Remained. Close the Meeting, Turn the Lights Off, and Lock the Door.

Perhaps I Had Missed My Calling. I Offered My Services to Pastor a Brand New Church of
600 Converts to Christianity. I Also Offered Myself to a Missionary Organisation. Could it be 'That a Prophet
Was Not Without Honour, Except in His Own Country?' Both Offers Were Declined. "Don't Call Us. We'll Call
You."

Eighteen Months Later We Were Married.

In a Further Six Months, We Worked With an Evangelist for a Six Month Period. During This Time We Learned
Many Things in Evangelistic Work. We Also Learned Many Things NOT To Do.

During This Time I Led Songs And Played My Trumpet.

God Finally Led Us Into the Pastoring Ministry. We Became Resident in a Town of 150 People for 8 Years. This
Became the Place of Revelation.

(At The Conclusion of the Crusade, with All expenses paid, I Had Netted the Magnificent Sum, For My Weekly
Sustenance, of $1.82.) Angels.

8. Start on Time.

THE MEETING

From Start to Finish, it Must Flow Smoothly From One Activity to Another. Fluid Progression. Every Involved
Person, Particularly the Leader, Must Know Where They Are Going, (Heading). They Must Know What They
Want, And How To Get From Where They Are,to the Desired Destination. They Must Make That Meeting
Happen!

You've Prayed, "God Everything Depends on You." Now You're in the Driver's Seat. Act as if Everything Depends
On You. It Does! You Have Prepared in the Mechanics - Now is the Time to Release the Dynamics.

Start Singing on Time. Don't Develop the Reputation That the Theme Song of Your Meetings is, "When the Saints
Come Dragging In!"

The Music and Singing Must be Bright, Lively and Enthusiastic. Don't Have Choruses That Drone On. Don't
Even Have Worship Choruses. You Are Not Here For This. You Are Here to Win Souls to Christ. You Are
There to See People Healed, and Ministered to. You Are There to Create a Healing, Soul Saving Anointing.

Understand That There Are Different Anointings for Different Purposes (Meetings). Teaching, 'Worship, etc.
You Are Responsible to Create the Anointing!

Psalm 22:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

God Inhabits Praise.

Isaiah 10:27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and
his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

Different Types of Anointing are Created by Different Types of Praise.

Isaiah 4:5 And the Lord will CREATE upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her ASSEMBLIES, a
cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence,
(Hebrew = Covering).
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 42

Mount Zion Speaks of Praise!

Assemblies are Local Churches.

THREE-FOLD ASPECT OF PRAISE

Job 36:27, 28

Jeremiah 10:13 Ecclesiastes 11:3

Job 36:27, 28 Pour Down Rain According to Vapour. Clouds Distil.

Ecclesiastes 11:3 Clouds Full Causes Vapours to of Rain, Empty on Earth.

Jeremiah 10:13 Causes Vapours to Ascend

Glory is the Presence of God.

Defence, Covering, is the Anointing.

Have Some Good, Enthusiastic People Who Know What You Are Doing, Dispersed Throughout The Congregation,
BUT, Ensure That the Bulk Are in the Front Rows. You Want to Reach the Unsaved Through This Barrage of Faith,
Anointing and Enthusiasm. This is Where the Anointing is Heaviest in a Meeting - the Front Few Rows, the Altar,
the Podium. Get the Sick and Unsaved in this Vital Area, and the Power of the Lord Will be Present to Heal and
Save! It Will be a Lot Easier For it to Happen.

Generate Enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is Contagious. It is Everyone's Responsibility to Create the Healing Anointing.

THE SONG LEADER

Make Absolutely Sure He Knows Exactly What You Want, and When You Want to Take the Meeting. His Major
Function is to Lead the Meeting to the Place Where You Can Effectively Minister. Do You want Personal
Testimonies Inserted During the Song Service? Is He Capable of Directing the Testimony? Do You Want the Song
Service Interspersed With Singing Groups? (Choir, Soloists, etc.)

Remember: He is There to Lead Songs! He is NOT There to Make Comments, Preach, Give a Personal
Testimony, or Anything Else.

There are NO Preliminaries. The Song Service is to Create the Healing Anointing. It is a Most Vital Part of the
Meeting. There is to be Action From the Word, Go. There Are No Second Class Meetings With God. Every
Night, Every Meeting, Every Crusade is Important. Every Moment in Those Meetings Are Important.

ANNOUNCEMENTS CAN BE FUN!

There is no Point in Following a Great Song Service With Dead, Dry, Boring, Uninteresting Announcements. This
Will Kill it, and the Preacher Will Have to Conduct the Song Service All Over Again, When he Finally gets the
Meeting. A Great Need for Flexibility Here. Be Sensitive.
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 43

Announcements Must Be Short, Direct, Straight to the Point. Don't Let Them Dribble On. Confine Them to Areas
of Interest to the Meeting. Nothing More. Title of Message Next Evening. Welcome Visitors For the First Time.
Hand Them a Visitor's Package. Creche Available for Noisy Children. (Encourage Children to Attend the Meeting.
They Need to be Saved and Healed Also.) Faith Building Materials (Show Some) on Table at Rear. Offering.
Don't Labour. No Two, Three, Four Offerings in a Meeting. God Will Supply. Oklahoma Radio. No Gimmicks.
No Rackets. Straight to the Point. Get the Job Done.

THE PREACHER

Do the Work of an Evangelist. If You Are Not Confident, or Capable, Bring in an Evangelist. Preach Faith.
Know Exactly Where You Are Going. Do You Know Where You Are Going? You Are Aiming at the Apex of
Your Message, the Meeting, People's Prayers, the Anointing - the ALTAR Call.

Jim Williams, Hamilton, N.Z. "I prepare as much time for the altar call, as I do in preparing my message." He
Knows Exactly Where He is Going. He Doesn't Bumble From One Part of the Meeting to Another, "Letting the
Lord Lead." His Evangelistic Meeting is Planned. He Makes it Happen.

Most Important. The Greatest Miracle of All. a Person Gets Saved. When He is Born Again. He Becomes a New
Creature.

Prayer For the Sick. Here is the Precise Time to Minister the Spirit of God to People. Here is the Time to
Demonstrate the Power of God.

For a Large Response to an Altar Call, You Might Like to Use Specially Prepared Counsellors.

Be Flexible. Be Bold. Be Open. Be Adventurous. Operate the Word of Knowledge Immediately Before the
Announcements. Sometimes After. Have an Altar Call Here For People to get Saved. You Will be Pleasantly
Surprised at the Results.

Don't Let the Meeting Drag Out Here. Keep it flowing. Above all, Keep the Congregation Involved in What You
Are Doing.

Counselling Room. Decision Cards. Follow Up Literature.

Exercise Your Authority. Rescue These Lost Souls From the Powers of Hell. Drive Back the Powers of Darkness
From Their Lives. Release Them. Set Them Free. This is the Heart of Your Ministry. Go To It. Enjoy it. Bask
in ';1hat Jesus is Doing. Involve (Tell) the People. When You're on the Crest of a Wave, Ride it. Ride it all the
Way. Your People Will be With You. They Will Never be More Excited Than to See Others Blessed. This Will
Multiply. You Are on Your Way.

Generate That BUZZ of Excitement. The People Will Not Only Come Back - That Will Tell Others.

Perhaps You Would Like to Take the Advice of a Seasoned Campaigner, Ray Bloomfield.

"When the Lord Works a Great Miracle, or When There is a Spectacular Healing, CLOSE THE MEETING. People
Will Remember and Talk About the Last Thing They Saw. There Will be a Lot More People in the Meeting the
Following Night."

"Preach Faith," he says, "Many Christian's Lives Are as Messed Up as the Unsaved! Seek to Bless the People of
God. God Will Bless You if You Do."

Now there is only one thing left for YOU to do, (or perhaps someone you have delegated),

Turn Off the Lights, and Lock the Door!

WORLD RELIGIONS

The Battle for Britain

by John Barcus

ENGLAND THE LAND OF JOHN WESLEY, NOW BOASTS

MORE MUSLIMS THAN METHODISTS

William Carey's homeland now receives more missionaries than it sends out. In London there is now an Islamic
interest-free bank. Britain's House of Lords has ruled that simple oral pronouncements of divorce, sanctioned by
the Sharia (Islamic Law) are valid in British courts.

Islamic voices are rising with increasing volume, insisting that private conduct and public policy be set by the rules
of the Koran and the Sharia. In Britain, as in nearly all of Western Europe, Islam has become the second religion,
and Urdu the second language.

For secular Europeans, an openly-lived religion is an embarrassment. Many expected the Muslim practitioner to
"grow out"of" the old ways and assimilate with the European culture. Muslim immigrants on the whole, however,
are neither compromising nor "growing out of" their explicit religious customs. On the contrary, they've helped
provide the context for educating and reinforcing their Islamic identity.

It cannot be taken for granted that children who leave European schools in their teens have been immunized against
Islam, as some educationists suggest. Islamic culture is not only a faith but a way of life. And in its purest form,
adherents cannot allow themselves to assimilate with another culture. Full-blown Islam can only be lived and
practiced in an Islamic state. It is therefore inevitable that Muslims in Europe, in order to remain Muslims, function
in Islamic communities within the host countries. This ultimately leads to problems and eventually conflicts with
the norms and laws of the land.

The Islamic Council of Europe, which directs Muslim missionary efforts on the continent and in England, is
headquartered in London. For this reason, London is sometimes referred to as the "Capital of the Arab World." In
1976 the well financed "Festival of Britain" produced this statement: "Unless we win London over to Islam, we will
fail to win the whole of the Western World."
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 45

The English language is one reason Muslims have chosen England, - London in particular - as the spring-board foits
universal conquests. It used to be said that the sun never sets on the British Empire. It does today, but it still
never sets on the British language.

Roughly 700 million people speak English. This represents a phenomenal 408 increase in the last 20 years and
comprises one-seventh of the global population. It has replaced French in the world of diplomacy and German in
the world of science. English is the dominant language in the fields of medicine, electronics, space technology,
international business, advertising, radio, television and film.

India, with its 179 different languages, relies on English to unify the country. Nearly all heads of state and
diplomatic personnel speak English. Teaching English as a second language has become a multi-million dollar
business the world over. As one Danish student remarked, "Nearly everyone in Denmark speaks English. If we
didn't, we wouldn't have anyone to talk to." English is the closest thing to a lingua franca around the earth and has
become the natural vehicle for the propagation of international Islam.

In view of Islam's success and England's strategic position, it might well be said that as England goes so will
Europe. And North America could be next.

What are Islam's marks of success in England? All BBC Arabic overseas programmes begin each broadcast day
with the reading of a chapter of the Koran while a Christian programme (usually Roman Catholic) is aired once or
twice a year. Muslims are pressing the British government for permission to observe Islamic Law rather than
English Law: the legal right to bury the dead hours after death in shrouds instead of coffins. They want time off in
factories for Muslim prayer breaks. And they want to be served special meals in hospitals and schools. "We now
consider that we form such an important minority in the British community," they claim, "that our special religious
customs should receive legal recognition." In some sections of major British cities one rarely sees a white
Englishman.

Thirty years ago there were only three mosques in Britain. Today there are over 500; the Islamic Foundation
claims there are 1,500. There are hundreds of Koranic schools. A Muslim missionary training college has been
established in Bradford, Yorkshire (sometimes called the "Capital of Pakistan" because of the many Pakistanis
there.) A site has been purchased at Bolton in Lancashire for the building of a Muslim university. English
university chairs are being filled by Muslim faculty, and Islamic libraries are being endowed.

Islamic bookstores are springing up all over the land with at least 3,000 titles available, one of which is "The Gospel
According to Islam." This book is a well-written harmony of the four Gospels in.which vital passages have been
replaced with Koranic inserts. Another is "The Propagation of Islam," listing the ways and means of converting to
Islam. First on the list is conversion by personal contact; last is conversion by marriage.

Muslims insist that "the life of a true Muslim is a better source of propagation than a hundred societies." The Koran
has been produced on 32 cassettes for use in colleges, universities and libraries. The Minaret Publishing House is
active on British soil. Ahmadiyah Muslims, the most evangelistic movement, are reportedly required to give 16%
of their income to spread Islam in England. It is now rumoured that the largest mosque in all of Europe is to be
built in East London.

While, in the words of the Daily Telegraph Newspaper, England "boozes its way to destruction," Islam claims to
offer a better and more wholesome way of life - no strong drink, no gambling, no drugs,no pornography, no
prostitution, no interest on loans. In general, the monied Middle Easterners migrate to England while those from
poorer countries are attracted to the continent.

Muslims are, therefore, more prosperous, more permanent and more persuasive in England than in France, Belgium,
Germany or Italy. Plus, they have more time and opportunity to be intellectual and zealously religious. Thousands
of Englishmen have converted to Islam in recent years. At least 5% of the Muslims in England are former English
Christians, at least in name. Fifty percent of all European converts going on the annual Pilgrimage to Mecca are
Britishers.
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 46

The English Cannel stopped Hitler, but Islam is rolling over England like a gigantic wave. Christianity in England
has lost its cutting edge while Islam, unsheathes its sword, and wields its influence with ever-increasing strokes.

Has God allowed it as a judgment? Or has God ordained this final migration as the greatest opportunity ever for
Christians to evangelise Muslims? Will British (French or Belgian) Christians rise to the day or collapse in the
night? Will they lift their faces to heaven in intercession or lower them in prayer to Mecca?

England now faces a crossroad more fatal than during either of the two World Wars. A generation ago the "Battle
of Britain" was won in the skies over England. In this battle, too,
the powers of the air will decide the outcome.

Why Consider World Religions?

1. Enables the Christian to engage in a meaningful, intelligent conversation (discussion) with a person. Shows
that the Christian is not an ignoramus. Shows he is informed.

2. Puts the Christian in touch with reality.

3. Allows to Christian to "Know Your Enemy."

4. Checks the habit of self-centredness. Does not allow the Christian to put his head in the sand, like the
proverbial ostrich.

ISLAM

Founded by Mohammed, 610 - 632 A.D.

Over one-half billion adherents worldwide.

Islam - 'submission to the will of Allah.'

Moslem - Muslim - 'one who submits.'

Incorporates aspects of Judaism and Christianity.

Mohammed

Born at Mecca, 570 A.D. Father Abdullah.

Employed by wealthy widow, Khadijah, in the caravan trade. Subsequently married her.

Received revelations during violent fits and foaming at the mouth.

Mecca - 360 shrines and the Kaaba (small temple.) The Black Stone given to Abraham by Gabriel, (meteorite)
located in it.

He and his followers persecuted. Fled to Yathrib (Medina) - Hegira (Hijra), flight or migration.

Conquered Mecca.

Medina in 632 A.D. Grave a place of pilgrimage.

Claimed as the last and greatest of all the prophets.

Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 47

Islam spread by means of the Jihad, the Holy War.

A catalyst for unifying the Arab nations.

Oil sales furnish means of propagating Islamic evangelistic endeavour. Centred on Africa and Europe.

The Koran

Claimed to be uncreated and eternal.

Supported by Tradition (Hadith) - sayings and deeds of Mohammed.

The Five Doctrines:

1. Allah the one true God. He is omnipotent, omniscient, and so transcendent that he is practically unknowable.

2. Allah has sent many prophets. Jesus is a sinless prophet. Mohammed is the last and the greatest prophet.

3. There are four inspired books. The Koran is the most important. Second, the Tauret - the Pentateuch of
Moses. Third, the Zabur - the Psalms of David. Fourth, the Injil - the Evangel of Jesus. The last three are claimed
to be corrupted. Only the Koran is eternal.

4. There are angels, fallen angels (demons), and Iblis or Shaitan (Satan.)

5. A day of judgment, resurrection, heaven and hell. Works weighed in balances. Heaven a place of sensuous
delight and gratification.

A sixth doctrine, Kismet (fate).

The Five Pillars

1. Reciting the Shahadah (creed), or Kalima (word.) Must be said aloud, publicly, and repeated several times a
day with feeling. "There is no God but Allah, and Mohammed is his prophet."

2. Salat (prayer). Five times a day. In Arabic, facing the Kaaba in Mecca.

3. Zakat (almsgiving). Usually one-fortieth of income and possessions.

4. The fast of Ramadan. Not allowed to eat or drink during daylight hours of this month. Many rise therefore,
before light to eat breakfast, and after dark eat supper!

5. Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca). Required to be made at least once during a lifetime.

A sixth pillar, Jihad (Holy War). Dual purpose, (a) to spread Islam, (b)suppress the unbelieving. Sanctioned in the
Koran. Soldiers dying in a Jihad, gain immediate entrance into heaven.

The lightning conquests in Asia have no equal in history. Spain conquered in 713 A.D. Constantinople - 1453 A.D.
Vienna - 1529. This gave Islam a leg into Europe. Syria and Palestine fell to Islam onslaught in 635 A.D.

Other Teachings:

Circumcision. Veiling of Women. Polygamy (four wives at one time, though Mohammed had 10 - 12.) No
alcohol, gambling, stealing, lying, though these vices are greatly entrenched in Muslim nations. Abstinence from
certain food, eg., pork. Very external.

Two Major Sects

Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 48

With the death of Mohammed, two major divisions resulted. Disagreements centred over the rightful successor.

Sunnis and Shias. (Sunnites and Shiites) Sunnis - four caliphs - Abu Bakr, Omar, Othman,
and Ali. Shias - only those in the family of Mohammed.

Successors known as Imamms, (Sinless, performed miracles, died martyrs, on equal footing with Mohammed.)

Various orders also.

Conclusion

Allah has done nothing for man. Islam rejects the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. Both angels and demons
are considered to be gods by many followers. Kismet deeply integrated. Inroads being made in the West through
universal brotherhood of man, world peace, temperance and the uplifting of women. (Women do not have many
rights in the Moslem nations. A man can obtain a divorce quickly and easily - a woman can't.)

Mohammed's last 10 years spent in constant warfare. Cruel treatment of Jews in Medina. Wives caused constant
conflict in his household.

HINDUISM

Has no founder - a contrast to all other religions.

More than 461 million adherents. Many schools and a multitude of gods.
Perhaps the oldest religion in the world. Dates back to pre-historic times.

Earliest level. Pre-Vedic, commencing 3,000 years ago. Polytheistic. Worshipped a. Mother Goddess and a yogi
postured horned god. Offered sacrifices. Did not have temples.

Vedic level. Began 1,500 B.C. Aryans worshipped nature, and the powers thereof.

Indra, Varuna, Angi.

Stars, sky and fire gods, in that order.

Sacrifices and the installation of a priesthood (Brahmin).

Upanishadic level. Began 600 B.C. (Sacred Books)

The Universe is God. God is the Universe. The Universal Soul - Brahman Teachings of Karma and Samasara
developed. Karma - 'the law of the deed.' Sowing and Reaping. Cause and Effect. Samasara - 'transmigration' - all
life evolves through limitless reincarnations (rebirths).

The ultimate objective of Hinduism is to achieve Moksha (Mukti) - 'liberation' Realised when the Universal Soul
(Brahman) becomes one with the individual soul (Atman).

Corrupted Hinduism provided fertile ground for reformation. Buddhism and Jainism born.

Brahma (Creator), Vishnu (Preserver) and Shiva (Destroyer).

Many Hindus worship Vishnu and his 10 incarnations.

Fish, Amphibian, boar, male lion, dwarf, Parasurama, Rama, Krishna, Buddha, and Kalkin (yet to come.)
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 49

Rama and Krishna are the most important and are worshipped more than Vishnu.

A Hindu may be a monotheist or polytheist. This is not an important matter. What matters is the caste system.

Original Castes

1. Brahmins (priests).

2. Kshatriyas (warriors and rulers).

3. Vaisyas (craftsmen, farmers, artists).

4. Surdas (labourers, servants).

Outcasts.

Vedas

These sacred books form the foundation of the Hindu religion. Written in Sanskrit. Four.

Often contradict each other.

Sruti (revealed scripture)

Vedas (Rig-Veda, Sama-Veda, Yajur-Veda, Atharva- Veda).

Brahmanas

Aranyakas

Upanishads

Bhagavad Gita

Smriti (tradition)

Sutras

Codes of Law

Agamas

Mahabharata

Ramayana

Darsahnas

Puranas

The Rig-Veda is the most important. Covers the many gods and the universe and creation.
Date unknown, possibly 1,000 B.C.

The Upanishads (1,000 - 300 B.C.) forms a commentary on the Vedic scriptures, the origin of the universe, the
nature of atman (human soul), with its relation to Brahman (universal soul.)
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 50

The Mahabharata (200 B.C. - 200 A.D.) contains legends about gods and men. It includes the Bhagavad Gita (song
of the Lord), the devotion to Krishna (Lord,) appearing as an incarnation of Vishnu, teaching the sacred duty of
obeying caste rules. It commences with the praise of yoga, the discipline system.

Major pilgrimage to Benares on the Ganges, the most sacred river in India.

Strenuous efforts have been made during recent times to revive Hinduism. One of its noted
reformers was Ramakrishna (1836-1886).

BUDDHISM

Founded by Siddhartha Guatama, born 560 B.C. Encompassed by many legends. (563 - 483 B.C.)

The Legend of the Four Passing Sights

1. Old Man

2. Suffering of Disease

3. Dead Man

4. Shaven Monk

During meditation beneath a fig tree, he attained the state of enlightenment. Tree of Enlightenment. Buddha -
enlightened one.

Attained nirvana (freedom, liberation) while yet alive.

Taught in northern India.

Began as a reformation of Hinduism.

Buddha died of food poisoning at the age of 80.

Attacked the caste system.

The Four Noble Truths (The Foundation of Buddhism.)

1. The truth of suffering, which all living things must endure.

2. The origin of suffering, a desire for pleasure and prosperity.

3. Suffering can be overcome by eliminating these desires.

4. Embracing the path which leads to the cessation of suffering, the Noble Eight- fold Way.

Noble Eightfold Way

1. Right Knowledge (the Four Noble Truths).

2. Right Intentions.

3. Right Speech.
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 51

4. Right Conduct.

5. Right Livelihood.

6. Right Effort.

7. Right Self Analysis.

8. Right Meditation.

Right conduct includes the Five Precepts. No killing, stealing, lying, adultery, alcohol.)

Five Additional Precepts

(Observed during some Holy seasons and some monasteries.) (No eating at certain times, dancing, music, theatrical
plays, cosmetics and jewellery, high or broad bed, do not receive gold or silver.)

Each member of a Sangha (order), must shave his head, wear a yellow robe, indulge in meditation, and embrace the
Three Refuges:

1. I take refuge in the Buddha,

2. the Dharma (doctrine),

3. and the Sangha (order)>

The Buddha claimed that man has no soul.

Five Mental Hazards and Ten Fetters

Must be conquered before nirvana is attained (total redemption.)

These include, belief in a self, belief in efficacy of good works, desire for a future life in heaven, pride and
ignorance.

When a Buddhist attains nirvana, he is absolved further rebirth, and the law of karma.

King Ashoka (265 B.C.) made Buddhism the state religion of India. Through splits, persecutions, and the warlike
Brahmins, it began a path of deceleration in India. Through missionary endeavour, Buddhism made rapid advances
throughout Asia.

Conservative and Liberal Schools

Theravada (the Way of the Elders) or, Hinayana (the Lesser Vehicle) Southern Buddhism. (Conservative)
Flourished in Sri Lanka, Burma, Thailand, and Cambodia. Follow the Tripitaka (original canon of scripture), Three
Baskets.

1. Vinaya (law and rules of monastic Buddhism.)

2. Sutra (sermons and teachings of Buddha) .

3. Adhidharma (philosophical interpretations Of Buddha's teachings.)

Originally transmitted orally. Not written until 4 centuries after Gautama's death! (How reliable are the scriptures
of Buddhism?)
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 52

Mahayana (Liberal) (the Greater Vehicle) Northern Buddhism. Advanced in Nepal, China, Korea, Japan, Tibet
and Indonesia.

Such contrasts exist between the two schools that they appear to be two quite separate and distinct religions! And
within Mahayana are a host of sects!

Pure Land Buddhism

Buddhism arrived in Korea in the 4th Century. It was taken from here to Japan in the 6th Century. By the 13th
Century it had virtually evaporated in India.

This form of Buddhism grew in China with the Buddha being Omito Fu, in India, Amitabha, and in Japan, Amida

Zen Buddhism

The antithesis of Pure Land Buddhism. Salvation is only possible through the self. Pursue Satori (flash of
inspiration, supernatural experience.)

Zen (Japanese), same as Chinese ch'an, from the Sanskrit, dhyana. (Meditation that leads to insight.) Meditation
in the lotus position.

Has exerted a massive influence on Japanese culture.

Nichiren Shosu Buddhism

Based on the Sutra of the Lotus of Truth. Nichiren (1,222 - 1282). Salvation found in the Lotus Sutra alone.
Emotional, militant, nationalistic.
Tibetan Buddhism

Arrived in Tibet in the 7th Century. Priests called lamas. Chief priest is the Dalai Lama. Worship my Buddhas
and demons. Extensive use of prayer wheels, mills, rituals, and secret formulas.

Approximately 200 sects of Buddhism in Japan.

Zen Buddhism similar in many aspects to Christianity.

Many forms of Buddhism. Various opposing sects.

Gautama's reported last words before his death "Buddhas do but point the way - work out your own salvation with
diligence."

SHINTOISM
Indigenous religion of Japan.

Kami no michi - the way of the gods. From two Chinese words, shen - spirit, and tao - way. Kami (gods), divine
forces of nature that are worshipped, said to dwell in rivers, rocks, trees, mountains, certain animals, the sun and the
moon.

By the way of China and Korea, Buddhism came to Japan (522 A.D.) Two hundred years later the Shinto scriptures
were produced as a reaction to this. Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters) and Nihongi (Chronicles of Japan) made
their entrance in 712 A.D. and 720 A.D. respectively. By the 9th century, an amalgamation with Buddhism resulted
in what became known as Twofold Shinto. Buddhist deities became regarded as Japanese deities. Buddhist priests
assumed the majority of the shrines.

One of the main deities was the sun goddess, Amaterasu Omikami. Her grandson, Jimmu Tenno became the first

Mikado (emperor) in 660 B.C. Unbroken succession of emperors gave rise to emperor worship. Emperors were
gods. Emperor Hirohito denied that he was divine January 01, 1946. This statement dealt a crushing blow to State
Shinto. Besides, after World War 2, Allied Command ordered its dismantling. Emperors were to be given loyalty
and obedience. So was Japan itself.

The majority of Shinto expressions require that one be a Japanese. Therefore exclusive, and nationalistic.

Separation from Buddhism came in 1885 A.D. when the Emperor Meiji decreed Shinto the State Religion. (1868 -
1912)

Most important shrine is that of the Sun-goddess at Ise. The ?tasukuni shrine of the war dead is well known.

Worship includes prayers, clapping, purification, offerings, dancing.

A god-shelf appears in many Japanese homes. Contains tablets bearing the names of ancestors. Offerings are made,
and candles are lit before it.

Salvation obtained by social and physical taboos.

Ancestors and gods offered food and rice wine (sake). Ten thousand shrines.

Pure Shinto has no ethical system. Developed as Confucianism and Buddhism influenced it.

Ryobu (mixed, dual) Shintoism

Sect Shinto has 13 recognized sects. They have commanded a large following in recent times. The most important
is Tenrikyo which emphasises healing and faith. 500 churches.

Emphasis on technology, industrialization, scientific education, and urbanization must cripple Shinto's nature,
emperor and ancestor worship, together with its mythology.

Many of the gods are portrayed as immoral.

Nationalism presents a real challenge. Customs and traditions run very, very deep.

JUDAISM

At the time of Christ the following sects of Judaism were making their presence felt.

1. Sadducees. Priests in the temple at Jerusalem.

2. Pharisees. Teacher of the law in the synagogues.

3. Essenes. A religious order. It was through these people the Dead Sea Scrolls came.

4. Apocalyptists. Expecting the advent of the heavenly Messiah.

5. Zealots. Prepared to fight for national

The destruction of the Temple by the Roman General Titus (70 A.D.), ushered in the diaspora (dispersion) . The
oppressions continued until the Age of Enlightenment (18th Century), though the emancipation did not cause
persecutions to cease.

The fall of the temple now caused Judaism to rally around the focal points of the Torah (Law, Pentateuch of Moses),
and the synagogue. Sacrifices now suspended, ritual, prayer and the study of the Law emerged. The Pharisees
became known as rabbis (teachers) .
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 54

Around 200 A.D. oral rabbinic traditions were committed to writing. This resulted in the Mishnah (repetition) .
Lengthy commentaries on the Mishnah appeared. These were known as Gemaras. The Babylonian Gemera came
on the scene in 500 A.D. The Palestinian Gemera emerged in 200 A.D. The combining of the Mishnah and the
Gemera produced the Talmud. This 63 volume series emerged over many centuries. It contains some of the most
blasphemous and diabolical material ever written.

For example, it records the statement that our Lord Jesus Christ was the son of a soldier. (Sanhedrin, 67a.)

That he was illegitimate and conceived during menstruation. (Kallah, lb (18b))

Christians are idolaters, with whom not to associate. (Hilkoth Maakhaloth)

Suggest Christians have sexual relations with animals. (Abhodah Zara (15b))

Innocent of murder if intent was to kill a Christian. (Makkoth (7b))

Christians to be pitied more than sick pigs. (Orach Chaiim (225,10)).

Gospels called volumes of iniquity, heretical books. (Schabbath (116a) Tos.)

The seed of a Christian is valued as the seed of a beast. (Kethuboth (110b) .

Those who do good to Christians never rise from the dead. (Zohar (1,25B))

A Jew may lie and perjure to condemn a Christian. (Babha Kama (113a))

Do not save Christian in danger of death. (Hilkoth Akum (X,1))

Baptised Jews are to be put to death. (Hilkoth Akum (x,2))

Extermination of Christians a necessary sacrifice. (Zohar (II,43a))

The spirit of ancient Pharisaism is very much alive in modern Judaism.

Rabbi Morris N. Kertzer stated, "The Talmud consists of 63 books of legal, ethical and historical writings of the
ancient rabbis. It was edited five centuries after the birth of Jesus. It is a compendium of law and lore. IT IS THE
LEGAL CODE WHICH FORM THE BASIS OF JEWISH RELIGIOUS LAW AND IT IS THE TEXTBOOK
USED IN THE TRAINING OF RABBIS."

The official unabridged translation of the Talmud into English with the official footnotes was printed in London in
1935 by the Soncino Press. It has always been referred to as the Soncino Edition of the Talmud.

It contains classic examples of "straining at a gnat, and swallowing a camel", that could ever be imagined.

Our Lord Jesus Christ found His life one of constant confrontation with these "hair-splitters."

Matthew 15:1-9 Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying, Why do thy disciples
transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. But he answered and said
unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? For God commanded, saying,
Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. But ye say, Whosoever
shall say to his father or mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; And honour not his
father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus ye have made the commandment of God of none effect by your
tradition. Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their
mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain do they worship me, teaching
for doctrines the commandments of men.
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 55

Matthew 23 is the most scathing rebuke ever uttered by the Lord Jesus. Never once does He address the unsaved
in this manner.

'Scribes, Pharisees, Rabbis, Masters', are all recipients of our Lord's wrath.
He concludes in verse 38, "Behold your house is left to you desolate."

Matthew 27:25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

It certainly has been!

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father will ye do. He was a murderer from the
beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his
own; for he is a liar, and the father of it.

John 8:39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's
children, ye would do the works of Abraham

Revelation 2:9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of
them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are of the synagogue of Satan.

Matthew 3:9 And think not to say within your selves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that
God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

Not Anti-Semitism.

Woman in Brisbane, Australia. Told of a Rabbi who was a "Completed Jew." Began attending his meetings.
Showed him some of my books. Suggested I be taught by him. "Never!" I warned her of becoming too enmeshed.
The end result? He demanded that she renounce Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour and Lord!

Galatians 4:29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it
is now.

Romans 9:8 That is, They which are children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the
promise are counted for the seed.

Romans 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your
own conceits; that blindness in part has happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

vs. 23, 24 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief. shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in
again. For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a
good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?

Revelation 11 One of the major functions of the ministry of the two witnesses is to engraft the natural branches
of the olive tree, back into that tree.

In the 12th Century Maimonides developed his "Articles of Faith."

These incorporated, belief in the oneness of God (Sherma), belief in the words of Moses and
the prophets, belief in reward and punishment, the coming of the Messiah, and the resurrection the dead.

Salvation may be achieved by obedience to the Law. A Jew needs no conversion or redemption. Judaism rejects the
doctrine of original sin. Therefore, there is no need for a Saviour.
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 56

Observance of Feasts of the Lord and Holy Days.

Judaism is divided into three theological schools:

1. Orthodox

2. Conservative

3. Reform

Ultraorthodox Hasidic Movement.

No belief system required to be a Jew.

First Christians were Jews.

Rabbis taught two Messiahs. The Son of Joseph, a suffering Saviour who would die), and the Son of David (a
victorious king who would establish his kingdom on earth) . Both are correct.

Pray that the eyes of these people might be opened.

FALSE CULTS

1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that
asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.

2 Peter 2:1, 12 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among
you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon
themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of when, the way of truth shall
be evil spoken of.

1 Corinthians 11:19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made
manifest among you .

1 John 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we
the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

People in cults are deceived.

2. Transfixed

3. No Joy

Counterfeit Bank Notes. So long with the real, that when a phoney surfaces it is spotted

End Time Events, Volume 5. Some of the major cults connected with Christianity are dealt with. Many Scriptures
are used stating the position of teachings attacked by the cults. (We are not attacking the cults. The cults are
attacking the Bible, Jesus Christ, and Christians.)

Deuteronomy 18:10, 11 There shall not be found among you any one that that maketh his son or his daughter to
pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a

and come after me, cannot be my disciple. So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he
cannot be my disciple.

Let the Christian take heed. Anything that stands before God and himself is itself a god!

Jesus first.

Romans 1 Evolution goes to great lengths in a desperate attempt to eliminate God from its thinking. This
unbelievable hypothesis has yet to produce its first shred of evidence, fossil or otherwise. Imagination is required to
subscribe to this incredible system. Faith in Christ is established on fact (the Word of God.)

Denominationalism is not primarily belonging to a certain group within the Christian Church but rather, it is a spirit.
One need not belong to an organisation to be denominational. It is possible to project (nothing need be said) a
sectarian spirit without belonging to a particular body. One may be a member of a denomination without projecting
a denominational spirit.

EXCUSES

'You should talk to the heathen about this.'

I am. Jesus Christ died for all; righteous and the unrighteous. Establish the fact of sin.

'I live by the Golden Rule.'

Good. That is a very noble thing to do Have you been born again?

'God is too holy to send anyone to hell.'

It is this fact alone, that God IS holy, that He will confine eternal criminals. What type of society would we have in
Australia, if every offender of the law went unpunished?

'Mind your own business.'

I am. Winning souls to Jesus Christ is my business.

'Australia is a Christian country.'

I doubt that. In your opinion what is a Christian country? What is a Christian? (A person who has received Jesus
Christ as his personal Saviour and Lord.)

'Too many hypocrites in the church.'

If you are hiding behind a hypocrite, then by your own admission, you are smaller than a hypocrite. That is not a

nice thing to believe of yourself. There are many hypocrites in the world.

'Tried once and failed.'

Then allow Jesus Christ to live His life in you. Let Him be the LORD of your life.

'I don't think I can live up to it.'

What makes you think that? You have nothing live up to. Be yourself. Allow Jesus to the living.'

'I'll think about it later.'

THE BIBLE ON BASICS

were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: and lo a voice
from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over
the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping
thing that creepeth upon the earth.

where I am, there ye may be also.

1 Thessalonians 4:14, 16, 17 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in
Jesus will God bring with him. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the
archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain
shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the
Lord
The Holy Spirit

John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth,
which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

John 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin. and of righteousness, and of judgment:

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of
himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach
you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ
from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the
sons of God. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

Sin

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short the glory of God;

Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

1 John 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins,
according to the riches of his grace;

1 Peter 1:18, 19 Forasmuch as ye know ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from
your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb
without blemish and without spot:

Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over which the Holy Ghost hath made you
overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

works, lest any man should boast.

and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that
believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

What are you going to do about the evangelisation of the world?

Ask God to raise up labourers for the massive, whitened harvest fields.

Ask God to lay on your heart what you can do.

Did you know that in 1981, 43% of America's annual population growth came through immigration? Legal,
refugees, and illegal!

In 1900 there were 558,000,000 Christians. That represents 34.48 of the total world population.

In 1980 there were an estimated 1,433,000,000. 32.8%. In the light of this Christianity is loosing ground. (How
many of this figure would be born again, committed Christians?)

It is said that to remain on a level footing, 26,000,000 souls must be won to Christ each year.

Will you go to the mission field?

Many missionaries told us that we were more like missionaries than they were. (In the town we were pastoring for
eight years).

I saw a sign above the main exit doors in a church in Grande Prairie, Canada that read:

"You Are Now Entering the Mission Field."

How true. America and many other so-called Christian nations need the Lord Jesus Christ.

You can either go, pray, or give. Be part of an aggressive evangelistic team to win this world for the Lord Jesus.

Ask God to lay a NATION/S on your heart.

Pray for that nation.

Give to win that nation to Christ.

Go to that nation.

HOME FELLOWSHIPS
I want to share some of the concepts that we have found worked for us. We found that as we moved into this type
of meeting, God directed us with further ideas. The whole programme really blessed the church.

We found, firstly, these meetings were a tremendous method of outreach, and we were thrilled by the growth we
saw. They were the means of bringing a more solid structure into the church, and enabled us to better care and love
the souls God entrusted into our care. The size of the groups gave every member opportunity to contribute to being a
vital part. It was exciting to see God's people starting to fulfill their function in the body as every joint supplied.

The area that excited me personally, more than any other, was seeing so many folk being trained and rising to levels
of leadership. For the coming worldwide harvest, God will 'need' every trained worker He can get if this harvest is
to be preserved.

We had Ladies' Groups gathering on Thursday Mornings. Mixed Groups were conducted on Wednesday Evenings.
They were both run along the same lines.

I have shared these concepts with many local churches, and in every case, without exception, real blessing was
reported, as they in turn launched into Home Fellowships. Details will be changed to adapt to each local church
situation. As I share, it is my prayer, that the Holy Spirit will quicken in your spirit the concepts that will bring the
most blessing to your area.

Home Fellowships

Home Fellowships are a Biblical method of mobilizing the Body of Christ to move as an organized army to attack
the gates of hell, and to set men and women free from Satan's bondages. They are a tremendous channel for
unlimited growth in your church. They give Christians opportunity to put into practice each week what they have
heard preached from the pulpit, particularly within the realms of faith, loving, and caring.

The Following are Some Guidelines That will Help You Get Started:

1. Decide that you want to see your church grow. Commit yourself to this goal. Develop a love for souls, and
realise afresh the reality of both HEAVEN and HELL. Start to change your thinking, dream church growth, talk
church growth, ACCOMPLISH church growth.

2. Start to believe God, step out in faith, and expect your faith to grow.

3. Begin to look for, and recognize church leaders.

Some suggestions of what to look for:

(a) Enthusiasm This is infectious and vital. The church will not progress beyond its leader. (Unfortunately,
it is not always those who have been leaders the longest that make the best leaders.)

(b) Clear Cut Testimony Choose those who can share and hold a significant conversation.

(c) Dedication
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 95

1. Faithfulness in Church and Home Fellowship attendance.

2. Faithful in finance.

3. Unanimity with leaders. Do not use a person who is always at cross purposes.

(d) A Spirit-led Life Choose those who are Spirit filled and understand the moving of the Spirit.

(e) Time and Money Time is a very necessary commodity, as it takes time to visit, pray, and reach out.
Money is also needed these days for gas, as often people have to be picked up for meetings.

4. Delegate Ministry and Authority. Begin to structure your church so that the load is shared. Teach people to
receive help at the lowest level of authority possible. Leave only the difficult cases for the Pastor. We must give the
leaders equivalent authority to match their responsibility. Remember, TRUE SUCCESS ALWAYS RAISES UP A
SUCCESSOR.

5. Teach, Train, and Qualify Leaders. We found that a weekly training session was the most effective. Ephesians
4:11, 12. It is important for ministry to pour themselves into their Leaders, remembering that we reproduce after
our kind. We also arranged weekend Leadership camps.

6. Organize. To work effectively, all details must be organized. Each person must have a job description, and
know what is exactly required of him. Report Back, is of vital importance so that the Pastor knows exactly what is
happening in each group.

7. Motivation. Very few people are self-motivated, (Self-starters), and both leaders and people have to be
continually motivated.

8. Set Definite Goals and Count. Collectively, and individually, each group needs to set definite long term and
short term goals. Write down a clear cut goal for each month, and for each year. Count your numbers and plot a
graph record. Once you have set your goal, plan, motivate, and then WORK! Do not accept excuses. Either our
goals will be accomplished, or we will disintegrate. Remember, we are at war, and we are going to win. Pray, ask
God for specific keys for your area. You will find an idea. You are going to go through the door.

HOW HOME FELLOWSHIP GROUPS OPERATE

AIM: An outreach in Evangelism in our streets and neighbourhood.

PRAYER: Believing that God will give your neighbours and friends a desire to study the Bible.

THE PURPOSE OF A HOME FELLOWSHIP GROUP

To help each person discover for himself what the Bible says, then to apply its meaning to his own life.

To Reach People Where They Are. To bring each person to consider God's plan for their personal salvation in Jesus
Christ.

To give a Christian natural opportunities week by week, to speak of spiritual issues with his or her neighbours.

ADVANTAGES:

provides the ordinary Christian living in his own land, the opportunity to be a missionary - to share the gospel with
his neighbours.

Instead of telling our neighbours what the Bible says, the Christian ASKS them what it says, and the neighbour sees
for himself the claims of Scripture.

Allows for Christians living in close proximity to really fellowship, to share and to care for reach other, both at a
spiritual and practical level.

NOTE CAREFULLY:

When the non-Christian becomes a Christian, and especially if he is hungry to know more - WATCH CAREFULLY
- that the emphasis of the group does not change to teaching Christians! Keep your objective and aim of the group
ALWAYS BEFORE YOU Reaching out, keeps the groups healthy and prevents them from becoming "bless me
clubs." New souls bring new life and excitement.

Those desiring further teaching:

1. Ask them to enquire in their own local church.

2. If this is not available, refer them to a place in their area (make this information available on request) - ie., a
Bible-based church.

3. Teaching meetings available to the Body of Christ are conducted in your church. Further details can be
given as requested.

PREPARATION

FORM OF APPROACH:

(a) For a Group

Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 97

1. You only need believe that the Bible is worth studying.

2. This is NOT for experts.

3. This is for those who do not know much about the Bible, but who want to learn.

4. This is not a lecture type teaching series, or even teaching meetings. They take the form of informal
discussions.

(b) Contacting Neighbours

1. To be friendly. There are two basic aspects of making friends:

(a) To be consciously working at it. Luke 16:9

(b) To be "available."

For the first, we actively and consciously seek common ground on which and acquaintance or friendship can be
built, not necessarily within the framework of church oriented affairs;
e.g., school, P.T.A.Meetings, workmates.

2. Other ways will be discussed and discovered. Fill these in as required.

3.

4.

5.

6.

RECOMMENDED TOOLS:

1. Everyone brings whatever translation of the Bible he has. (It is good to have several spare copies of 'Good
News For Modern Man', or, ` The Living Bible' on hand as extras for newcomers.)

2. A good English dictionary. (And probably a Bible dictionary would also be useful.)

3. Commentaries should NOT be used. Encourage the group to learn to interpret the Word by the Word for
themselves.

4. Study Guides will save the Leader much time and labour in preparing questions for discussion.

5. Notebooks would be a help to jot down anything relevant, or information for the next study.

POINTS RELEVANT TO THE ACTUAL STUDY GROUP:

1. Good basis to begin with - 3/4 Christians, and 1/3 visitors.

2. Meet weekly for 1 1/2 hours. (Keep with this time. Should there be people who want to talk, let it be after a
formal closing of the study time.)

3. Each Leader is training, and gradually bringing into Leadership, another established Christian.
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 98

4. Appoint a hostess to serve coffee, tea and cookies, answer the telephone, and ensure that newcomers are being
adequately taken care of.

5. Arrange the seating. (Preferably around a table, or a small table in the centre of the room). Eat while you
discuss - this saves time, and the people are more relaxed.

6. If you have smokers in the group, make sure ashtrays are available, and that there is sufficient ventilation so that
non-smokers are comfortable.

7. When a group gets to 12 begin to pray and ask God when to divide the group to start a new group.

LEADERSHIP:

Needs to be ENTHUSIASTIC. This is basic and essential to impartation.

FLEXIBLE. Bring group discussion back on course when it wanders astray.

RESPONSIBLE. Have a real sense of responsibility, a faithfulness in attending to that which the Lord has called us
and has committed to us.

SHOCKPROOF. Especially when encouraging people to say what they think or feel.

SENSE OF HUMOUR. Ability to laugh at yourself, and mistakes that have been made (by yourself, or others) .
etc.

HUMILITY. In the groups, being careful that you do not overstep the value of your own importance. The attitude
with others in the group not that we are leaders, but learners together, as we study the Bible.

DEPENDENT. On the ministry of the Holy Spirit - to convict, to reprove, to guide, to open one's understanding, to
give light, etc.

PREPARATION:

To be effective, leaders need to take time in preparation, and going over the selected passage of of Scripture for
study.

Praying for those in the group.

If possible, encouraging the people to do their own studying in the Chapter first. This will mean reading the Chapter
over several, or perhaps, many times. Possibly in various translations also. Write down the important facts in the
Chapter, and what meaning it has to the leader personally.

HOW TO CONDUCT THE STUDY:

Keep Your Aim Clearly and Continually Before You.

''It is the Leader's function to help the group discover for themselves what the Bible says."

1. Commence with a short prayer, asking for God's wisdom and direction in the Bible Study.

2. Read ALOUD the allocated Scripture passage for the evening, before discussing it. (Even when people have
prepared, most will have thought, and done a lot of things since then, and their minds will need refreshing.)
Several in the group could read sections.

Endeavour to lay aside familiarity and preconceptions of the passage, and approach the study as if you were reading
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 99

it for the first time. KISS. Keep it Very Simple!

3. Ask the questions in the Guide. Frame them with your own words, should you prefer.

Always remember that the questions are designed to focus on three main areas:

(a) What does it say? God?

(b) What does it mean? Jesus?
(c) What does it mean to me? Me?

4. Mentally assign a certain time to each section, keeping one eye on the clock.

5. Allow a few moments at the end of the study to summarise the impact of the passage studied. How can it have
bearing on the personal members of the group, and circumstances they may be facing at this present time. .

6. Join hands and pray for any needs that may have been revealed during the study. Testimonies of answered
prayer will influence the non-Christian and will greatly encourage the young Christian. NOTE: We do not
allow the operation of the gifts of the Spirit in these meetings .

SOME FURTHER 'DO'S' AND 'DON'TS':

1. It is healthy for a group to be composed of people from divergent backgrounds, to share

together, to learn together. One person's insight sharpens another's understanding of an idea.

2. Stay With the Chapter under consideration. Do NOT jump around in the Bible with cross-references, etc. This
confuses Christians and beginners.

3. Learn everything you can from the Chapter under discussion. As the group progresses, reference may be made to
portions already studied. (Notebooks are helpful for this purpose.)

4. Avoid tangents. Should they occur, offer, ''Do we find the answer to that problem here, in this passage?" Or,
"What does this passage seem to emphasise?" Or, "Let's finish the Chapter, and then those who would like to discuss
this question may stay and do so."

5. Avoid quoting other authorities Let the Chapter speak for itself. Let the Bible alone, become the final
authority. The Bible itself speaks with authority. It will make the required impact. We do not have to defend it.

6. Encourage everyone to participate. Take care never to 'put any one on the spot', by calling his/her name, and then
asking them the question directly. Ask a general question. Give everyone a chance to think, then address someone
by name who appears as if he/she has an answer. After he speaks, say "What do the rest of you think?" Be alert to
the presence of newcomers, particularly on the first evening, and particularly if he is reserved. Be careful not to
commit him in any way.

7. Although the Leader guides, the people should be free to question, "I don't get this!" "I don't agree with you."
"This is something I've wondered about."

8. Never be Dogmatic Do not evaluate by saying, "Yes, that is true", or, "No, that is wrong. If someone has
misread or, in your opinion, misinterpreted the passage, ask, "Is that really what this says?", or, "What do some of
you others think?", or, "Is there more to this?"

Again, always be conscious of your overall focus, and central aim, 'Get Them to See It For Themselves.' Let them
see the authority of the Word of God. What is God saying? Keep referring to, "What does the Bible say?"

NOTE: If questions of DOCTRINE arise, that could cause dissension and division in your group, suggest that each
member of the group search the Scriptures before the next meeting.
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 100

(For example, the first Chapter in the Book of Mark touches on Water Baptism. This could cause several questions
to surface. Don't bring up controversial questions. Your purpose is outreach, NOT division. At the commencement
of the following week, touch on briefly what each has found, and then leave them to come to their own conclusions.

9. If some people do all the talking, suggest they do not answer the following question out loud, but formulate the
answer in your own mind, your own words. Allow a few moments silence, repeat the question, then call on a more
quieter member of the group to answer.

10. Encourage members to share specific illustrations of how the passage has been applied in their own personal
lives. If the passage has revealed failures or short-comings in your own life, be honest enough to admit it. Share,
and others will share. Open up, and others will open up also.

11. Leader, don't talk too much Your function is to moderate, steer, and stimulate discussion. Keep the
discussion moving, endeavouring to bring it to a conclusion. This study, in order to be meaningful, not descend into
a question and answer session between the Leader and members of the group.

12. Avoid technical expressions and Christian 'jargon.' For example, the terms 'born again', and 'saved', are not
found in the gospel of Mark, but, 'your sins are forgiven', is.

13. Time is of the essence Do not waste it. Promptness is courtesy. Allow one hour for the study, and half an
hour for arrivals and farewells.

THE DAY-TIME LADIES' MEETINGS

In addition to the weekly Bible studies, the following meetings were also conducted.

Combined Outreach Meetings

Four exciting and innovative meetings were conducted at the church each year, at the conclusion of each quarter.
These meetings were designed to capture the imagination and curiosity of all types of women, so they could become
a more effective outreach tool.

The purpose of these combined outreach meetings was:-

(a) That all the small Bible study groups could meet together and feel that they were more a part of the whole
church: for the members to see that they not only related to other members of their own study group, but that they
were part of a team with a vision to reach out across the city through the Ladies' Bible Studies.

(b) That there could be an inter-relating of the various groups.

(c) That they could be a vehicle for the outreach of souls: an informal avenue to bring relatives and friends. New
contacts can be channelled into a Bible Study Home Fellowship Group in their area.

(d) That each group may become acquainted with what is happening in other areas.

(e) That from time to time principles and other matters that needed to be communicated, might be covered.

Two of these meetings are conducted in the evenings to cater for the working woman, and
two are held in the mornings for housewives, etc.

2. Individual Outreach Meetings

Each home meeting was responsible to organise their own outreach meeting one week every quarter. They were
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 101

responsible to pray and to reach out in a manner they felt would be the most effective for their area. This could vary
from a 'door-knock' in a neighbouring street, to having a 'coffee hour' with a visiting speaker. Maybe a bread
making demonstration, or a free manicure and nail care lecture.

At these meetings every effort was made to invite all unsaved neighbours in the area.

These proved to be exciting meetings, and extremely fruitful for the Kingdom of God.

3. Seminars

Throughout the year, one or two day seminars on counselling, effective parenthood, and other relevant topics were
held at the church.

4. Conventions

Two of these (known as Ladies' Camps), were arranged each year, and provided a wonderful opportunity for women
to be away together and receive ministry pertinent to their lives as women in particular. One such camp numbered
above 1,500 women! Note: this did not include men and children. It was not a family camp. It was the largest
meeting of this nature ever held in Australia.}

5. Prayer Meetings

Each Area Leader had a prayer meeting in their area once a month which was open to all ladies. The Area Leader
ran this meeting. Praise, worship and the operation of the gifts of the Spirit were encouraged. Here, they were able
to pray collectively for their groups, their areas, their leaders, and to seek God for direction. Ladies could also be
ministered to on a personal level.

6. Leaders' Meetings

Each month, the Area Leader gathers her Leaders together and teaches them. Here they plan together, discuss
answers to problems and pray together.

7. Mothers' Meetings

The objective of Mothers' Meetings was to convey expert, practical knowledge on better Mothering, loaded with
spiritual support. Christianity is based on relationship. Learning to form good relationships begins at birth, possibly
before. During the first year of life, a child learns more about loving and attitudes, than in any other year of its life.
God designed a Mother's instincts and abilities to cater perfectly foThese meetings were held every two weeks. They
proved to also be an effective tool for Evangelism.

We also produced a bi-monthly newsletter that kept every one up to date with what was happening in the various
groups, and of what was being planned collectively.

play a vital function.

Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 111

THE LOCAL CHURCH

Ephesians 1:22, 23 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the
church, Which IS HIS BODY, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

The Church is not an afterthought! It is His Body. It is the expression of the Lord Jesus Christ in the world today.

There is NO substitute for this. All groups, societies, clubs, fellowships, organisations, associations, etc, take a
subordinate role to the local church. Eventually, in the final analysis, the local church, blended together with every
local church worldwide, forms the Universal Church, the Body of Christ worldwide.

The scaffolding, while necessary for the erection of the building, is NOT part of the building, and eventually must
be dismantled, revealing the original design formulated by the architect. Likewise with the Church.

The glory that is to be revealed in these last days of time, will be in and through the corporate expression of the local
church.

Daniel 2:44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be
destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these
kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

Isaiah 40:5 And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the
Lord hath spoken it.

Isaiah 60:1, 2 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the
darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall
be seen upon thee.

Our main effort in life, therefore, should be to BUILD the local church.

The Local Church is the sovereign authority in any given community. No central headquarters. It is designed to
function in complete autonomy. Everything it needs will be found within it. This is why every Christian must be
vitally linked with the local church.

THIS MY BODY

Genesis 2:23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man.

Ephesians 5:30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

1 Corinthians 12:12, 14, 24, 25, 27 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that
one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For the body is not one member, but many. For our
comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that
part which lacked: That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one
for another. Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

Ephesians 4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that very joint supplieth,
according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 112

itself in love.

Romans 12:4, 5 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we,
being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

1 Corinthians 10:17 For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.

Ephesians 2:16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity
thereby.

Ephesians 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling.

THE UNIVERSAL CHURCH (LOCAL) THE MOTHER OF US ALL!

While on earth, the Lord Jesus Christ never wrought one miracle outside His body. So also today. Though we
hear of miraculous conversions and miracles transpiring without human agency, there follows undeniable instruction
to become vitally connected with His body. To resist this ordinance, is to expose oneself to deception and
disintegration of the worst kind. Any move of the Spirit of God can only be preserved while it is contained in the
confines of the church, the mother.

In the miracle of the New Birth, germination is provided by God the Father, through the agency of the Holy Spirit.

In any natural birth, the necessity of the involvement of a mother, transpires. So also in the Spirit. First the
natural, then the spiritual.

Acts 9:6, 10-12, 17, 18 The miraculous conversion of the Apostle Paul.

And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and
go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named
Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord. And the Lord said
unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul,
of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth. And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his
hand on him, that he might receive his sight. And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his
hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent
me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And immediately there fell from his
eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. he (Local) Church, then,
adopts the role of the female (mother) in the miracle of life, the New Birth.

Acts 10:44-48 While Peter vet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And
they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles
also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then
answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptised, which have received the Holy Ghost as
well as we? And he commanded them to be baptised in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry
certain days.

As water, blood, and spirit are involved in the miracle of natural birth, so also are they involved in the spiritual
counterpart.

1 John 5:6-8 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and
blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in
heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in
earth, the Spirit, and the water and the blood: and these three agree in one.

John 3:3, 5 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he
cannot see the kingdom of God. Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 113

of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Under the Old Testament, in order for a leper to be pronounced clean, he must experience each of the three
elements. In the Bible, leprosy is a type of sin. (sinner) Water, blood, oil (Spirit) .

Leviticus 14:8, 14-17 And he that is to be cleansed shall wash his clothes, and shave off all his hair, and wash
himself in water, that he may be clean: and after that he shall come into the camp, and shall tarry abroad out of his
tent seven days. And the priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering, and the priest shall put it upon
the tip of the right ear of him is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his
right foot: And the priest shall take some of the log of oil, and pour it into the palm of his own left hand: And the
priest shall dip his right finger in the oil that is in his left hand, and shall sprinkle of the oil with his finger seven
times before the Lord: And the rest of the oil that is in his hand shall the priest put upon the tip of the right ear of
him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot, upon the
blood of the trespass offering:

The Bible does NOT teach baptismal regeneration. Neither is it essential to be baptised in the Holy Spirit in order
to be saved.

We are saved by the blood of Jesus Christ alone!

1 Peter 1:18, 19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from
your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers: But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb
without blemish and without spot:

Revelation 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof:
for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and
nation;

Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over which the Holy Ghost hath made you
overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

Romans 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness
for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

Hebrews 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of
God;

Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without
spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Notwithstanding, for a Christian to be immersed (initiated) into the mysteries of God, all three agents, blood, water
and Spirit must be employed. These form the building blocks, the fundamentals, the rudiments, the basics, of
Christianity.

Why reject, lay aside and spurn, what God has established in His Word? Water baptism is not an optional extra: it
is a commandment of the Lord Jesus Christ. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential to accomplish
the purpose of God in this hour.

Acts 2:38, 41 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptised every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for
the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Then they that gladly received his word were
baptised: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Notice the employment of the human agency. (The Local Church).

Acts 8:14-17 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God,
they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 114

Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

Acts 19:1-6 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts
came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye
believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said
unto them, Unto what then were ye baptised? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily
baptised with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should
come after him; that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus.
And when Paul laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and
prophesied.

THE CHURCH (Universal, Local)

Hebrews 12:22-24 But YE ARE (present tense, NOW) come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God,
the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the
firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, And
to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of
Abel.

THE ALLEGORY OF SARAH AND HAGAR

Galatians 4:22-31 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a free
woman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to
bondage, which is Agar. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in
bondage to her children. But

JERUSALEM WHICH IS ABOVE IS FREE, WHICH IS THE MOTHER OF US ALL

For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate
hath many more children than she which hath an husband. Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of
promise. But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is
now. Nevertheless what saith the Scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman
shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. So then, brethren, we are not the children of the bondwoman, but of
the free.

GOD WORKS WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK AND LIMITATIONS OF THE BODY OF CHRIST
(The Church)

1 Corinthians 3:9 For we are labourer together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.

He has no hands but our hands. He has no feet but our feet. He has chosen to work with and through His people -
not beyond them. Hence, the mandatory position of an ongoing evangelistic programme in the local church. He has
no other way.

From the time of the building of the first corporate place of worship (the Tabernacle), God has wanted to work with
His people. They, in like manner, must be willing to have their God dwell among them.

Exodus 25:2, 8 Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it
willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering. And let them make me
a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 115

NECESSITY OF CORPORATE WORSHIP

Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the ASSEMBLING of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting
one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Psalm 50:5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.

Acts 2:42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and FELLOWSHIP,
and in breaking of bread, and in prayers .

Isaiah 65:8 Thus saith the Lord, As the new wine is found in the cluster, (not the solitary grape), and one saith,
Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants' sakes, that I may not destroy them all.

Psalm 68:6 God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound
with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

Genesis 2:18 And the Lord God said, It is NOT GOOD that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet
for him.

It is a sick sheep that wanders from the fold.

A hot coal will soon loose its heat when separated from the main body of fire.

God has designed that in some aspects of spiritual growth, it will never be achieved on an individual basis. Hence
the need for commitment to a Local Church. Conversely, there are some aspects of the Christian life that will never
be realised on a corporate basis. We need wisdom to discern the difference. Both are vitally important aspects.

No man is an island unto himself. No one can fulfill the social obligations of life by being a ,spiritual hermit. God
has designed us for interaction and interdependence.

Genesis 4:9 And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my
brother's keeper?

Genesis 43:3 And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest saying, Ye shall not see my except
your brother be with you.

Ecclesiastes 12:11 The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which
are given from one shepherd.

BODY HAST THOU PREPARED ME

Hebrews 10:5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a
body hast thou prepared me.

1 Corinthians 12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being
many, are one body: so also is Christ.

The maturation of the body can only be achieved through the avenue of the five-fold ministry.

Ephesians 4:11-14 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors
and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the
measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 116

No, NOT some Christian Discotheque, Christian Rock Group, Electronic Church, BUT the Local Church.

Each member attaining the prescribed level of maturity, by exposing themselves to the LIVE five-fold ministry.
There is no other way.

2 Timothy 1:5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother
Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

What a vital role then, the Local Church (mother) plays in the development of a Christian, particularly in the early,
formative years.

I remember what a source of encouragement, strength, sustenance, and joy there was in fellowship with other
believers of like precious faith in the local church, when I first became a Christian.

Oh, the nutrients, love, care, protection, guidance that a mother affords.

My dear Christian brother/sister: if you are not already a committed member of a local church in your locality, for
the sake of your own soul, and the health of the Body of Christ, do so today.

CONCLUSION

For any church body to be and remain healthy, on an ongoing basis, it is imperative that it have an effective
Evangelistic programme.

Outreach helps the individual members get their minds off their problems while being meaningfully engaged in the
service of others.

New Christians added to the local church are a continual source of joy, life and enthusiasm.

Evangelism will insure the local church from becoming too introspective. It will ensure a good, healthy balance.

Observe any church that is not positively engaged in reaching its community for Christ, and that church will begin to
wither and die. And perhaps even worse than this, it will become exclusive, sectarian, in a last ditch attempt to
Go Into All the World: A Teaching on Evangelism 117

offer to the world some pathetic excuse, a reason for its existence.

Become evangelistic, learn how to make friends, know how to lead a person to Christ, understand the ministry of the
Evangelist, practice hospitality, apply the knowledge of how to conduct an evangelistic meeting, have a working
knowledge of world religions, be a part of the home fellowship programme of your church, and endeavour to
become a loyal, dependable, faithful, effective part of your local church. Do this, and your life will take on a new
level of excitement and purpose.

And those souls you win to Christ? Integrate them into the local church; care, love and nurture them. They are
your children.

IT CAN HAPPEN AGAIN

A BOY gave his lunch to Jesus and five thousand men, besides women and children, were fed.

A SLAVE GIRL spoke to her mistress about God: and her master, healed of his leprosy, became a devout believer.

ANDREW told Peter about Jesus and three years later Peter preached a sermon that won three thousand souls for the
Kingdom of God.

AN AGED MONK counselled Martin Luther to trust God's forgiveness for his sins - and Luther, finding peace with
God, became the pioneer of Protestantism.

A SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER visited Dwight Moody in the shoeshop where he worked, spoke to him about
Christ, and Moody became a world-renowned evangelist leading thousands to Christ.

HUDSON TAYLOR said "yes" unreservedly to God - and more than twelve hundred missionaries went forth to
China under the banner of the China Inland Mission which he founded.

A LITTLE GROUP OF STUDENTS met by a haystack to pray for the lands where the gospel was unknown - and
the great movement of American Foreign Missions was launched.

It Can Happen Again! Will It Happen to YOU?
