Details of the Programme/Project/Initiative
Conducting joint experiments by two participating institutions and also sharing costly resources
has always been a challenge. In developing countries, costly instruments and equipment need to
be shared with fellow researchers to the extent possible. Web enabled experiments can be designed
for remote operation and viewing. This would help in learning basic and advanced concepts
through remote experimentation. Most of the equipment used by aeronautical, civil, automobile
have computer interface for control and data storage. It is possible to design good experiments
around some of this equipment which would enhance the learning of a student. Internet-based
experimentation further permits sharing of resources – knowledge, software, and data available on
the web, apart from encouraging skillful experiments being simultaneously performed at points
separated in space.
o Virtual R&D Project Lab – a computer R&D lab for sharing the
resources / Experiment’s results across the globe. It has various
software, for R&D experiments and simulation.
Objective:
To provide a complete Learning Management System around the Virtual Labs where the
students could use the various tools for learning, including additional web-resources,
video-lectures, animated demonstrations and self evaluation.
To share costly equipments and resources, which are otherwise available to limited number of
users due to constraints on time and geographical distances.
To create a virtual lab for e-learning, testing and research in Structural / Computer /
Aeronautical / Automobile Engineering.
Target group: Faculty from Hindustan University and other universities and Students across
the global. Pilots, engineers and employees of various aviation and automobile industries have
benefitted by this project.
Geographical reach: Global
List the 5 points how can the programme serve as a model that can be replicated or
adapted by others?
1. Industrial collaboration norms and methodology.
4. Universities and industrial clusters have formed for sharing the virtual
laboratories.
