SUMMARY:
Root cause fit and function investigations solved design assembly problems. App
lied cutting-edge engineering technology. Structural design Team Leader coordin
ated continuous improvements. Solutions frequently resulted in substantial savi
ngs per aircraft.
SKILLS:
Unigraphics CAD drafting and modeling, tolerance studies, stress analysis, pro-a
ctive interpersonal communication/involvement; Microsoft Word, Excel and Power P
oint
TASKS and ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Design Engineer
Revised aircraft structure utilizing machined forgings and sheet metal details.
Applied standard material processes and specifications, and engineering princip
les. Collaborated with other engineering disciplines, manufacturing and supplie
rs, when appropriate, to adequately research problem and/or provide best solutio
n. Drew drawings and constructed rigged 3-D models. Conducted metallic and com
posite structural testing. As Team Leader: produced design team accomplishment
s, mentored less experienced engineers and completed team Corrective Actions, no
ting design improvements.
- Developed and implemented more efficient chem-milling manufacturing method w
ith supplier: equal removal from each side of aircraft skins, made from aluminum
plate. Avoided production line stoppage and eliminated high scrap rate. Cost
savings: approx. $200,000/aircraft.
- Greatly improved function of C-17 Parachute Deployment mechanical sub-system
: relocated structural components optimally. Tolerance study was the key to eli
minating critical interferences. Resulted in much improved release path.
- Produced layout for monolithic floor beam to substantially save costs versus
assembled beam.
- Re-designed intercostal cap angle: increased twist along length to allow pro
per mating tolerance between out-of-plane frames. Eliminated costly intermittent
interference and repair.
- Promoted to Design Specialist
MBR Liaison Engineer
Produced timely dispositions of structural non-conformances, by applying stress
analysis to aircraft load paths. Ideally selected the best, cost effective solu
tion from calculated and researched repair alternatives. Initiated design Corre
ctive Action improvements related to dispositions.
- Dispostioned oversized connector holes in aircraft skin structure by adding
fail-safe doublers and cold working structure stack-up adjacent to holes. Corre
ctive Actions resulted in cost savings of approx. $1000/aircraft in excessive p
arts & labor.
- Saved costs and labor worth approximately $10,000 on several non-conformance
s by replacing lower costing brackets versus higher costing labor.
Manufacturing Engineer
Provided designs and improvements to tooling via drawings and layouts. Supporte
d production lines of electro-mechanical fuses and military rounds. Wrote and r
evised Standard Operating Procedures. Monitored Statistical Process Control of
military rounds. Conducted Time and Motion studies, and testing of charged compo
nents. Developed models of product flow layouts for automated production line.
- Designed test fixture for detonator handling clips; worked with supplier.
Substitute Teacher, grades K-12
Follow or provide lesson plans, teach and guide students, maintain classroom lea
rning environment.
- Taught Physics and Algebra long-term assignments.
