PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
T & D CONCRETE. [Contractor] - Wildwood, FL (352) 748-2111
Accountant, 7/08 to 2/09
Handled daily accounting duties in QuickBooks for owner's retail store located i
n Michigan. Selected, prepared, and supervised installation of a new back offic
e and point of sale computer system at the storefront in Michigan in order
to allow greater efficiency and monitoring of revenues from the Florida headquar
ters to the remote storefront in Michigan.
Aided in the separation of several spinoff companies from T & D Concrete that in
cluded: a pool services company, a pool construction company, a retail pool and
patio storefront in The Villages, a supplier/distributor company, a spa
manufacturing company, and a screen enclosure company.
Key Results of spin-offs:
* Created more efficient business units that broke out the unrelated business un
its of T & D Concrete in order to create more value to shareholders.
* Managers had more skin in the game as each spin-off was its own unique company
responsible for its own assets and liabilities. The owners of the parent wante
d to create a specialized team environment within each business unit in order to
maintain the high level of customer service as well as rewarding the successful
managers within all companies.
* The spin-offs allowed the parent to take advantage of the tax laws (i.e. the t
ax free advantages of creating spin-offs).
* Aided in separation of liability among unrelated business units.
* Created a solid foundation for the overall success of all T & D units in the f
uture when ownership wishes to retire or scale back from the daily operations.
T & D was a wonderful company, I decided to leave in order to more quickly achie
ve additional educational goals within the accounting field in order to expand f
uture career opportunities in accounting.
JETTA PRODUCTS, INC. [Manufacturer] - Wildwood, FL (352) 303-3648 Dick Johns Own
er/CEO
Controller, 1/04 to 6/09
Responsible for establishing, maintaining, and improving accounting tools and me
thods, as well as monitoring financial performance. Duties included monthly fin
ancial analysis, defining best cost methodology, setting standard costs, re-eval
uation and variance analysis of key financial data. Regularly participated in a
ll aspects of the management team and made recommendations for productivity impr
ovements and cost reductions. Regularly evaluated business processes to identif
y bottlenecks with production managers and developed strategies for improvements
that ultimately cascaded to the bottom line. Managed, analyzed, and researched
cost variances in production and inventory levels. Played a key role in the IT
development and maintenance of that department as well as providing assistance
to any IT problems employees had.
Key Data:
* Jetta realized its highest profitability during my tenure. Costs were driven
down by putting out competitive bidding processes. Revenue from our manufacturi
ng tripled at its highest point during my tenure.
* Demonstrated the ability to fill in at a moment's notice, quickly mastering an
d improving systems, processes and workflows whenever key employees were lost du
e to illness, vacation, or termination.
* Increased efficiencies in accounting processes during monthly and yearly closi
ng so as to generate reports to insiders/outsiders in a much quicker fashion
* Operated financial computer systems and furnished senior company executives, l
ending institutions, and our CPA firm with detailed financial data and spreadshe
ets with that were consistently praised for their accuracy, user-friendliness an
d timeliness.
* Showed and demonstrated the ability to understand the processes behind the acc
ounting data. In my opinion, to the most effective type of accountant in manufa
cturing one must understand the processes that go into production.
Jetta Products was a wonderful experience. During the end of my tenure, I worke
d with the shareholders to sell the company. When that option was not accepted
by shareholders I chose to pursue other opportunities.
