. Developed and administered a supply budget of $3 million, a
personnel budget of $3 million. And a capital equipment

. Directed an outreach laboratory service providing services
to 40 physician offices
Accomplishments:
. Installed the first computer system in the laboratory in
1982
. Installed the first pathology computer system in the
laboratory in 1993
. Planned for and directed the temporary relocation of the
laboratory to another area of the hospital during asbestos
abatement.
. Worked with the section supervisors and pathologists in the

the second floor.
. Worked with the supervisors, pathologists, architects, and
hospital facilities personnel for the design and relocation

. Chaired the team developing and distributing a laboratory
manual for the nursing units and physician offices.
. Justified and acquired an automated Immunohistochemistry
stainer. This permitted the handling of the increased
staining workload without the addition of staff.
. Replaced the Bac Tec Blood Culture Instruments with the
newest version. This allows for quicker reporting of
positive blood cultures since the specimen is read every
ten minutes rather then once per day. The sensitivity of
the instrument allows a final report to be generated in 5
days rather then the 7 days with the old system.
. Worked with the Pharmacy staff to install the Pharm-Link
program to the Microscan instrument in microbiology. This
is the instrument that does the identification and
sensitivity testing on cultures. The Pharm-Link allows the
pharmacy to generate a report on the organism and the
sensitivity pattern. With this information, they are
capable of monitoring the physician for correct antibiotic
usage and route of administration. Pharmacy feels they are
saving $10,000 per month with this system.
. Directed that drug of abuse testing be moved to the Hitachi
Chemistry Analyzer. This lowered the cost per test, reduced
testing time by two hours, and allowed the testing to be
offered 24 hours per day.
. Offered drug of abuse testing to the local high schools.
Due to our test capability, we could report the results
back to the schools within 4 hours. This prevented students
with negative results from being held out of school for an
extended period of time pending the receipt of the test
results.
. Instituted the microfiching of pathology reports. This
reduced the volumes of paper storage from 30 file cabinets
to 8 small file boxes. This freed up valuable space.
. Updated a number of test methods so that they could be
performed on the automated instruments.
. Revised the Cardiac Marker Panel at the request of the
Cardiology Department.
. Modified the Cardiac Panel ordering protocol in the
hospital information system. This allows the computer to
automatically order the tests at the proper time sequence
