The foundation stone at Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital was laid by the Late Prime Minister
Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru in November 1950, and the hospital opened its doors to its first patient in
May 1951.The hospital has since completed over 59 years of dedicated service, and we pride

ISRO – NRHM – NANAVATI HOSPITAL TELEMEDICNE PROGRAM
Telemedicine system consists of customized medical software integrated with computer hardware, along with
medical diagnostic instruments connected to the commercial VSAT ( Very Small Aperture Terminal ) Each
Location. Generally, the medical record / History of the patient is sent to the Specialist Doctors, who will in – turn
study and provide diagnosis and treatment during video – Conference at the patient’ end.
Presently ISRO’s Telemedicine Network Consist of more than 382 Hospitals, 307 Remote / Rural /District
Hospital / Health Centres Connected to 59 Super Specialty Hospitals Located in the Major Cities. Dr. Balabhai
Nanavati Hospital is one of the Super Specialty Hospital , Mumbai. As per Agreement ISRO has provided V-Sat
based communication facility through Indian satellite (EDUSAT_ between master centre and peripheral centres.
State -of - the -art infrastructure facilities have also been provided by ISRO to Nanavati Hospital. These included
high performance SONY camera, Computer terminal hardware and medical software and satellite dish for
communications.
Specialists of Nanavati Hospital Provide guidance through these facilities to hospitals under ISRO
telemedicine network.
ISRO – NRHM – NANAVATI HOSPITAL TELEMEDICINE PROGRAM
National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) Maharashtra state unit recognized nanavati Hospital
Telemedicine Master Centre in July 2009 to provide specialist service to 28 district hospital in
state of Maharashtra. This tie up is best example of private - public partnership module where
medical specialist of Nanavati Hospital gladly provide expert guidance to rural government run
hospitals in Maharashtra and conduct CME (Continuous Medical Education) Programs.
THE PAN AFRICAN E-NETWORK INITIATIVE
Nanavati Hospital Telemedicine centre became part of prestigious project of Minister of
external affairs (Govt. Of INDIA ) conducted by TCIL (Tele Communication Consultants Of
India Ltd) in August 2009 and inaugurated on 18th March 2010 by Mr. Priyam Jhaveri, Vice
Chairman of Nanavati Hospital .
This facility includes high end communication tools, servers, studio equipments and audio -
video editing and storage machines, connectivity to African continent is provided by dedicated
under sea fiber optic cabling by AIRTEL. Creation of this facility enables Medical specialists to
conduct regular Tele-consultation and Medical education program, lectures / seminars to 53
African Countries in regular manner. Nanavati Hospital is only hospital in Mumbai and
western India to provide this Telemedicine Facility to African continent and this brings
Telemedicine Centre on the international map.
The centre is supported by National and Internationally recognised top Medical Specialists of
Mumbai working in Nanavati Hospital who have provided extensive guidance in Cardiology - Cardiac
surgery, Neurology – Neurosurgery, Chest diseases, Cancer Therapy and surgery, Diabetes and
