CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

Marathon Oil Company

Project Manager /Business Analyst – Texas City, TX Oct 1999 – Present
Project Manager – Robinson, IL Feb 1998 – Oct 1999
Systems Analyst / Team Lead – Findlay, OH Jan 1998 – Feb 1998
~ (2007–2010) Coordinated all aspects of a Refining Wireless Project where the
viability of industrial wireless technology and wireless applications were asse
ssed and wireless standards and guidelines were established. The completion of
the project provided immediate cost savings and opportunities:
- Completion of one wireless tank gauging project saved $5M in wiring and
engineering costs;
- Allowed for Marathon safety culture to be revolutionized via the impleme
ntation of a wireless application to track location and well-being of plant pers
onnel during emergencies.
~ (2005-2007) Pioneered handheld technology and associated work process i
mprovement within the Operations organization to optimize operator inspections a
nd enhance plant reliability and availability; this initiative resulted in:
- Reliability improvements and cost reductions of ~$150K in six months in
four units during pilot implementation; translated annual savings of seven refin
eries to $3.5M.
- Revolutionized the role of plant operator from one of note-taker to fron
t line reliability responder leading to early detection of failures and associat
ed lower maintenance and lost opportunity costs.
~ (2003-2005) Championed the use of an engineering design tool called Smar
tPlant Instrumentation within the Engineering organization that reduced engineer
ing costs on one large project by $5 million; dramatically improved work process
es by introducing electronic data transfers between engineering companies and Ma
rathon; improved compliance by centralizing all instrument data and introducing
data change management procedures to ensure data accuracy.
~ (1996) Oversaw the effort to streamline the mainframe-based CMMS applica
tion to a PC-based application that ultimately extended the life of the existing
system by 15 years, allowing Marathon to postpone application replacement and a
ssociated $20M-$50M in software and implementation expenditures.
~ (1997-2005) Coordinated all efforts associated with the analysis, design
, and implementation of the reliability analysis and mechanical integrity applic
ation suite, Meridium, to the Maintenance organization. Pioneered an equipment
web viewer that fulfilled the vision of the Meridium application suite by centr
alizing all equipment related data into one, user-friendly location. This initi
ative resulted in:
- Dramatic reductions in the completion and approval of (major) turnaround
inspections from three years to the three months;
- Reduction in heat exchanger lost opportunities and maintenance costs by
$75 million over four years from use of failure prediction and reliability analy
sis tools;
- Dramatically improved mechanical integrity compliance by eliminating hun
dreds of data “silos†into one accurate, central location.
~ (1990-1992) Directed the implementation of Marathon CMMS at the Speedway
Super-America organization (SSA), and contributed significant organizational re
structuring initiatives to improve their operational functions:
- Generated a firm accounting of their inventory and minimized actual inve
ntories from $12M down to $7M in the first year after project completion;
- Provided opportunity for SSA to accurately assess the profitability of t
heir convenience stores and store equipment by tying maintenance costs directly
to the equipment and convenience stores;
- Allowed the organization to recognize and make informed decisions regard
ing costly or unprofitable equipment, and unprofitable stores.
~ (1989-1996) Managed the CMMS application requirement assessments, design
, implementations, training, and support at other Marathon organizations, such a
s Office Supply, Electronic Services, and the Robinson Laboratory that minimized
inventory levels and improved overall inventory management within each organiza
tion.
