Issue 1.03
Issue 1.03 defines the installation for Toshiba and Dell Pockets for Operating System
Windows 2003
3. Introduction
The ADB Wi-Fi system allows you to remote control any ADB ISIS® desk 1 from
wherever you are in your venue: on and off stage, in the auditorium, the handheld
Remote Control unit serves as a substitute for the front control panel of a desk. Most
of the desk’s functions are available via the Wi-Fi Remote Control.
The ADB Wi-Fi software runs on any Pocket PC with Windows Mobile 2003.
The ADB Wi-Fi Remote Control uses the standard wireless network technologies.
1
ISIS® version 2.10 or higher
4. Technical Specifications
The ADB Wi-Fi Remote Control uses standard wireless network technologies.
The performance characteristics such as operating range are defined by the
networking equipment and its set-up.
On a Wi-Fi Network with ADB Wi-Fi software there are no limits to the amount of
Access Points and Pocket PC’s.
The required number of Access Points and the distances between Wi-Fi Nodes
depends on the characteristics of the selected Wi-Fi equipment and the environment
in which the network is set up (such as the presence of metal structures etc.) To have
a good estimation, please refer to the Instruction Manual of the selected Access
Point.
• Indoor: 100 m
• Outdoor: 400 m
5. Get connected
There are different ways to connect the Remote Control to your desk(s). This User
Manual describes some of those connection set-ups. For other system lay-outs
please contact ADB’s ISIS® Support team. E-mail isissupport@adblighting.com
These set-ups are suitable to connect one or more desks with one or more Access
Points.
2
The Ethernet Port on the DWL-2000AP is Auto-MDI/MDIX. You can use either a standard or a
cross-link Ethernet cable to connect the Ethernet port of the DWL-2000AP to an Ethernet switch or a
console
3
A node is any device connected to a network. Nodes can be computers, personal digital assistants
(Pocket PC), lighting desks, or other network appliances.
The following chapters describe the setup of a Wi-Fi remote controller. Dedicated
paragraphs describe the ‘Basic set-up’ and the ‘Customized setup’. Only the part
which is necessary for your requirements needs to be set up. The set-up is simple,
but needs to be done correctly. We strongly recommend to read through this
document before attempting any installation or configuration of your equipment.
Good luck ☺ !
Step 1: Installing the Wi-Fi software requires a communication link between the
Pocket PC and the PC with a Windows operating system. To establish this link you
will need Microsoft ActiveSync on the Windows PC. This program is delivered with
the Pocket PC. If ActiveSync is not installed on the PC, please refer to the Pocket PC
User Manual and install this software.
Step 2: Once the link (by USB) between the Pocket PC and the Windows PC has
been established, you are ready to install the ADB Wi-Fi software on your Pocket PC.
On the ISIS® Software CD 4 you will find a directory labeled Wi-Fi PPC. This directory
includes the ADB Wi-Fi Remote Control file.

ISIS® Software CD version 2.10
The ADB Wi-Fi software has now been installed on the Pocket PC.
Start the ADB Wi-Fi Remote Control program on the Pocket PC.
Keystrokes:
If the software is used for the first time it is necessary to fill in a registration code.
Please refer to next Chapter how to register software.
After starting the program (First time or Evaluation) the “Registration” window will
appear. You need a software registration key to unlock the software. To receive a
registration key it is necessary to fill in the Registration Form 5 .
If you have a registration code: fill in the code and confirm with the Registration
button. The ADB Wi-Fi software has been registered.
If you don’t have a registration code: click the Evaluation button. The ADB Wi-Fi
software will run like a registered version for a short period of time. This allows you to
test and configure your ADB Wi-Fi software.

The above window will appear after the Installation and Registration (or Evaluation).
This chapter describes the setup for the D-Link DWL-2000AP Access Point. Other
Access Points may work but are not supported by ADB.
D-Link DWL-2000AP
The Basic Configuration does not require any configuration of the Access Point itself.
It is the simplest set-up, but it has no privacy / security WEP 6 .
Connect the Access Point with an Ethernet cable (standard or cross-link) to an ISIS®
desk, or to an Ethernet Switch on your lighting network. Configuration is done.
6
Wired Equivalent Privacy; a security protocol for wireless local area networks.
7
This Access Point has a Reset button to restore its original factory default settings; refer to the
D-Link DWL-2000AP User Manual.
Connect the Access Point to the Windows PC with an Ethernet cable (standard or
cross-link).
We strongly recommend that you make a note of your original settings on the PC
before you modify any. This will help you to restore the original configuration of the
PC later on.
My Computer > Network Connections > Local Area Connection Properties > Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties

Default password of Access Point (factory default settings)
• AP Name: the name you choose for the Access Point (e.g. AP UpStage
Left)
• SSID 11 : the name you choose for the WLAN (e.g. Studio1)
• Channels: your Channel number => You can change the setting to match
an existing wireless network (Default setting is channel 6)
• WEP: Enabled / Disabled => Change the encryption settings, for more
secure wireless communication
• WEP Encryption: select 64 Bit or 128 Bit
• WEP Mode: HEX
• Key: Enable key index 1 and give a key 1 => 64 bit = 10 digits
128 bit = 26 digits

A Wi-Fi handheld remote is an Ethernet Node. Connecting this node to an ISIS® desk
is similar as configuring any other Ethernet node. The configuration is done in the
point-to-point configuration.
It is the ISIS® desk that decides to link to the Wi-Fi Remote Controller unit. A
Wi-Fi Remote Controller can only control one system at the time! A system being a
Stand-alone desk; or a Master/slave/screen system.
The Subnet 17 of the Wi-Fi Remote and the Subnet of the ISIS® desk must be
the same; if they’re different you won’t be able to establish a link between the Wi-Fi
Remote and the ISIS® lighting desk.
17
Please refer to ADB Ethernet Guide
Keystrokes to configure:
The screen displays all available nodes (Point-to-Point) 18 on the Network. If a Wi-Fi
Remote is available it will appear in the list.

ISIS® desk from wherever you are in your in venue. This very compact and
lightweight hand-held remote control unit offers you all the comfort of remote access
to the most important functions on your lighting desk:
The ADB Wi-Fi Remote Controller is bidirectional. All manipulations performed on the
Wi-Fi Remote are simultaneously generated and visible on the ISIS® desk, and all
manipulations performed on the ISIS® desk are simultaneously generated and visible
on the Wi-Fi Remote.
All manipulations performed on the Wi-Fi Remote or on the ISIS® desk are displayed
on the ISIS® console’s ‘history line’ and on the Wi-Fi Remote’s ‘history line’.
History line:
• On the Wi-Fi remote: history line of all manipulations of desk and Pocket PC;
also contains all ISIS® messages.
11.2. Channel
Select the channel screen by pressing the channel tab. The channel and group
functions are similar as in ISIS® software.
Field selection: No field is selected after the remote is turned on. The Wi-Fi remote
will work in the selected field of the ISIS® desk. It is possible to change this field with
the Wi-Fi Remote. Tap the Field button. The Field selection screen will open. Select
the required field and value and tap OK. (see drawing below)
11.3. Memory

similar to those in the ISIS® software.
Selecting a dimmer will act directly on the dimmer (through the desk) and not on a
channel. This direct-to-dimmer action is not affected by a Patch, field selection or
Grand Master.
Prev D and Nxt D buttons allow the control of the next or previous dimmer without
entering a new value; the value of the first selection remains.
Selection other screen (Tab) will automatically force all direct dimmer outputs to
value 0. The direct dimmer output uses HTP.
