10 Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel-Lucent Version 2.0 Administration Guide
1 Introduction

The workplace is changing and so are its economics. Increasingly, companies are becoming
flexible, allowing employees to work off site. This flexibility comes with a price tag—the cost of
maintaining two different telephone services for every employee. It is now commonplace for
employees to have two work phones—their desk phone and their mobile phone. Even people
who rarely come in to the office still have a desk phone, which they rarely use, in addition to
their mobile phone. The company pays for both types of phones and phone services. The two
phones of course have different numbers, as they operate on different networks. This in itself can
make it difficult to reach someone at work, whose mobile phone status is not visible to telephone
exchange attendants or other users of the private automatic branch exchange (PBX). Numerous
failed attempts to reach business people at one number or the other is also commonplace and
further bogs down telephone service.
Nokia offers a solution—to integrate wireless and fixed voice infrastructure in Nokia Intellisync
Call Connect. Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel-Lucent offers the following benefits:
„ A single phone number for two phones. Now users can have one business number that rings
on both their desk phone and mobile phone.
„ The ability to use the fixed telephone exchange service on mobile phones. While users are
away from the office, they can make calls on their mobile phone as if they were calling from
their desk phones.
„ Lower mobile phone costs. By using wireless operators who offer the lowest prices or by
using least-cost routing or fixed tariffs for international calls, companies can lower their
phone bills.
Enterprises can integrate employees’ mobile phones to the corporate voice infrastructure by
using Alcatel-Lucent Cellular Extension on Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX. Cellular Extension
provides support for PBX features over wireless networks. Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for
Alcatel-Lucent is a Cellular Extension client that you can install on Nokia Eseries phones.

Figure 1 illustrates the integrated system.

Figure 1 Integrating Fixed and Wireless Voice Infrastructure

Alcatel-Lucent Cellular Extension

Alcatel-Lucent Cellular Extension enables users to remotely access Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX
services. Users employ Nokia Intellisync Call Connect on their Nokia Eseries phones in the
mobile network to make and receive business calls. An internal cellular client account is
configured on the OmniPCX that makes and receives calls on behalf of Intellisync Call Connect.
To use PBX services, two-stage dialing is used. First, Nokia Intellisync Call Connect sets up a
call to the internal cellular client and then uses dual-tone multifrequency (DTMF) sequences to
issue commands to the internal cellular client. The internal cellular client is fully transparent to
users.
Install Cellular Extension and configure it as instructed in the OmniPCX Enterprise OmniPCX
Integrated Cellular Client guide by Alcatel-Lucent.

Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel-Lucent

Nokia Intellisync Call Connect v2.0 for Alcatel-Lucent integrates Nokia Eseries mobile phones
with the fixed corporate telephony infrastructure running Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX. Nokia
Intellisync Call Connect helps to increase user productivity by extending desk phone features
and one business number to mobile devices. In addition, it simplifies the corporate telephony
architecture and helps to eliminate overlapping telephones, because employees can use their
mobile devices as primary business phones.
Nokia Intellisync Call Connect provides enterprises with opportunities for cost savings,
improved control tools, and productivity gains. For their employees, the main drivers are
increased productivity, as well as easy access to, and use of, corporate PBX services on mobile
devices.
Using desk phones with this solution is optional, and often unnecessary. Nokia Intellisync Call
Connect provides a user interface to manage call routing preferences and access in-call services
from the PBX. Features include private and business mode, do not disturb, hold and resume
calls, call transfer, consultation call, swap, and conference call.

12 Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel-Lucent Version 2.0 Administration Guide
Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel-Lucent

The solution integrates to Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX using both the cellular network and WLAN
with voice over IP (VoIP) technology.
The solution routes all mobile calls made in business mode via Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX. The
receiving party sees only the desk phone number, instead of the mobile phone number. Thus, the
mobile phone number can be kept for private use. External callers use the desk phone number to
make calls, and the solution routes the calls to the mobile phone according to user-defined rules.
Cellular call fees can be eliminated when mobile-originated calls in a corporate private WLAN
network are routed via Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX. The least-cost routing (LCR) features of the
platform can be leveraged also on mobile calls. This can facilitate significant savings on the
international calling costs. Furthermore, the call reversing feature can also help reduce costs
when traveling and roaming in a foreign mobile network.

Key Features
The key features of the solution are described in the following sections:
„ One Business Number
„ Mobile Least-Cost Routing
„ Desk Phone Features on Mobile Devices
„ Over-the-Air Installation with Device Management
„ License Management

One Business Number

The one business number feature allows users to publish only one number on their business card;
their desk phone number. The desk phone number is the user’s single business number, whether
they are in the office or mobile. The user is in complete control of whether their mobile phone is
in business mode or private mode. The selection of business mode or private mode allows
business calls to be made from the employee’s desk phone number, while private and personal
calls are made from the mobile phone number. Because the enterprise owns the business number,
when an employee leaves the company, business calls continue to be received at their desk
phone number and can be redirected to the appropriate person within the business.
The one business number feature uses two-stage dialing. Two-stage dialing redirects all
outbound calls from a mobile device to the PBX, which performs all call control features. Two-
stage dialing is fully transparent for the user and does not require any user action.

Business Mode
When users activate business mode on their mobile phone, incoming calls to their desk phone
are automatically routed to their mobile phone. Calls made from a user’s mobile phone display
the caller ID of the user’s desk phone. The user’s mobile number remains hidden from business
callers.

Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel-Lucent Version 2.0 Administration Guide 13
1 Introduction

Business WLAN Mode

When business mode is active and the mobile phone detects the enterprise WLAN, Nokia
Intellisync Call Connect automatically activates business WLAN mode. In business WLAN
mode, VoIP technology and the session initiation protocol (SIP) are used to make business calls
over the corporate IP network. Users can make VoIP calls to computers, other mobile devices,
VoIP devices, and traditional telephones. Users must be within WLAN coverage to make VoIP
calls.

Private Mode
In private mode, the mobile client signals the PBX to handle all business calls to the user’s desk
phone appropriately. For example, by forwarding calls to another person or to the voice mailbox.
Calls made from a user’s mobile phone display the caller ID of the mobile phone. Calls made to
the user’s mobile phone number are not affected by the selection of business mode or private
mode, which makes it possible to separate personal calls from business calls.

Mobile Least-Cost Routing

Cellular call fees can be eliminated when mobile-originated calls in a corporate private WLAN
network are routed via Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX. The least-cost routing (LCR) features of the
platform can also be leveraged also on mobile calls, which can facilitate significant savings on
the international calling cost. Furthermore, the call reversing feature can help reduce costs when
traveling and roaming in a foreign mobile network. LCR uses the two-stage dialing and callback
features to route international mobile calls over a low-cost fixed voice infrastructure. LCR can
provide remarkable cost savings for enterprises, as they can pay considerably less per minute on
international calls. The LCR feature provides savings when calling from the home network to a
foreign country and when roaming abroad.

Desk Phone Features on Mobile Devices

Two-stage dialing enables the use of multiple call control features on mobile devices. The most
widely used supplementary services are—mute, hold, blind transfer, consultation calls, swap
calls, assisted transfer, call forwarding, call waiting, conference calls, call park, call pickup, call
barring, and callback. Nokia Intellisync Call Connect provides the user interface and cellular
application to manage these services in the device and supports multiple call control signaling by
using DTMF sequences over the cellular network.
Two-stage dialing over a WLAN enables the same features with the same user interface and user
experience as over a cellular network. The call control signaling over the WLAN uses the
session initiation protocol (SIP) INFO protocol which is an Alcatel-Lucent solution that uses
enriched standard SIP with functionality to provide rich PBX feature set support.

Over-the-Air Installation with Device Management

Nokia Intellisync Device Manager is a multi-platform mobile device management solution
designed from the ground up to comprehensively and cost-effectively manage multiple aspects
of your mobile deployment. You can use Intellisync Device Manager to install and configure

Using Nokia Intellisync Call Connect in Dual-Mode

In addition to cellular mode, you can run Nokia Intellisync Call Connect in dual-mode, where
calls are routed on the enterprise WLAN when the device is within the WLAN coverage area.
However, voice and data traffic set different demands on the WLAN. Voice traffic typically
consists of large amounts of small packets transferred at a low data rate. If packets are delayed or
lost, voice breaks up during calls. Therefore, quality of service (QoS) is more important than
bandwidth when transferring voice over a WLAN.
One of the obvious advantages of dual-mode mobile devices over IP desk phones is that they
allow users to move around during phone calls. However, compared with cellular phone services
where coverage areas are usually nationwide or even global, a WLAN has a much smaller
coverage area. Even within one building, the WLAN coverage area must be extended to
hallways, staircases, elevators, and other parts of the building where laptop computers are
usually not used. Further, coverage between access points must be seamless and handover must
be fast to ensure that calls are not dropped and voice quality remains high during calls.
To transfer voice over WLAN, you must review the existing WLAN architecture. Typically, you
need to extend WLAN coverage to all parts of the building, increase network capacity,
implement QoS, and configure WLAN security features.
For more information, see “Configuring WLAN for Dual-Mode” on page 19.

Accounting and Reporting

Accounting and Reporting

Calls are made to and from Alcatel-Lucent Cellular Extension through Alcatel-Lucent
OmniPCX. Business calls to and from Nokia Intellisync Call Connect actually consist of two
separate calls. One call is made between Intellisync Call Connect and the internal cellular client
in the PBX and the other call is made between the PBX and the calling or called party. Incoming
business calls to the PBX are charged to the caller. The call from the PBX to Intellisync Call
Connect is charged to the internal cellular client.
The mobile network operator charges for calls made from Nokia Intellisync Call Connect to the
PBX over the mobile network. The call from the PBX is charged to the internal cellular client.
Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Enterprise Call Server generates records about calls made to and from
Cellular Extension. You can use the Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista 4760 accounting module to view
the records.

2 Configuring WLAN for Dual-Mode

You can run Nokia Intellisync Call Connect in dual-mode on wireless networks that comply to
the IEEE 802.11g standard. The following sections provide an overview to configuring the
WLAN for Nokia Intellisync Call Connect:
„ Conducting Site Surveys
„ Placing Access Points and Antennas
„ Network Capacity
„ WLAN Security
„ Implementing Quality of Service
„ Using Codecs
Nokia Intellisync Call Connect has been verified to work on 802.11g networks that implement
the Cisco WLAN architecture. Nokia recommends that you do not run voice over IP (VoIP)
applications, such as Nokia Intellisync Call Connect, on 802.11b or on mixed networks. If
802.11b networks become over-subscribed, call quality might be degraded and calls might be
cut. For more detailed information about how to configure Cisco Unified WLAN for voice
traffic, see the Cisco network design guides.

Conducting Site Surveys

To make sure that the WLAN coverage and capacity meet the requirements set for voice traffic,
you must conduct a site survey. There are several site survey tools that you can acquire and run
on a laptop. Access points and mobile devices also contain some basic tools for determining the
availability of a WLAN and displaying information about signal strength and data rate at a
particular location. For example, the Connection manager in Nokia Eseries devices displays
information about available WLAN networks, including the approximate signal strength. The
signal strength should be above 60 percent for adequate voice quality. To view the signal
strength at a particular location, select Menu > Connect. > Conn. Mgr. > Act. Data Conn. >
Options > Details on a Nokia Eseries device.
For reliable results, perform the site survey during active calls that generate packets and refresh
the screens regularly. Multi-path interference and signal distortion can cause the signal strength
to vary by several decibels between sequential packets. Further, management data packets are
typically transmitted at a lower data rate than voice packets.

Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel-Lucent Version 2.0 Administration Guide 19
2 Configuring WLAN for Dual-Mode

In addition to scanning the frequency of the network, you should survey the site for interference
to determine where it is likely to degrade call quality. For example, Nokia Eseries devices
support both IEEE 802.15 Bluetooth and IEEE 802.11g. Because both radios share the same
antenna and frequency band, using Bluetooth devices during calls might degrade call quality.
Before deploying dual-mode phones, consider your IP addressing schemes. Determine the
number of IP addresses required for the mobile devices in the WLAN. Follow the guidelines for
layer 2 and layer 3 network design. For example, keep in mind that MAC broadcasts might get
flooded in a layer 2 domain and IP broadcasting and multicasting place a heavy load on layer 3
network domains.

Placing Access Points and Antennas

In a voice network, access points must be placed close together and overlap enough to ensure
seamless roaming. The coverage area of an access point depends on the transmit power and
receiver sensitivity of its radios.
Plan for at least 15 to 20 percent of overlap with a received signal strength indication (RSSI)
value that is greater than -67 dBm throughout the network at a 12 Mbps data rate. Nokia Eseries
devices use the RSSI value to determine when to associate to a new access point.
Place access points and antennas where most of the users are. Implement diversity antenna
support on access points to provide adequate signal quality indoors, where the radio signal
bounces off objects or is absorbed by them at various levels. Diversity support reduces retries
and thereby improves throughput. To avoid multi-path interference, make sure that you do not
place antennas near metal objects.

Network Capacity
One access point can serve from 15 to 25 mobile devices at a 12 Mbps data rate. Maintain a
consistent minimum data rate from access point to access point across the WLAN coverage area.
Mixing data rates can cause devices to stay associated to an access point even though they are
within range of another access point that offers a higher signal level and faster data rate.

Designing Channels
Even though only one access point is required to cover a particular area, it is recommended that
you deploy two access points on non-overlapping channels. Design for a cell radius of -67 dBm
and separate overlapping channel sets by 19 dBm.

Determining the Number of Calls Supported

Channel design determines the number of calls a channel can support. The recommended
number of simultaneous calls is from 10 to 13 in an 802.11g network at the 12 Mbps data rate.

20 Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel-Lucent Version 2.0 Administration Guide
WLAN Security

With a lower data rate, the channel capacity decreases. Nokia Eseries devices do not support call
limiting per access point or assisted roaming logic that would allow devices to switch frequency
when a channel becomes over-subscribed. Because the devices do not process channel capacity
or level 2 roaming, channels can become over-subscribed and call quality can degrade.
To support a larger amount of simultaneous calls in a particular area, create smaller cells. To
reduce cell size, decrease the transmit power of all radios on both access points and mobile
devices. Nokia Eseries devices comply with the IEEE 802.11g standard and operate at the 54
Mbps data rate. However, Nokia devices also comply with the data rates set by the access point.
For example, if the data rate has been set to 12 Mbps, Nokia Eseries devices do not transmit
above that rate.

Note
Supporting slower devices on an access point can reduce the throughput for the faster
devices, because the access point sets a lower data rate to support the slower devices.

WLAN Security
A WLAN is difficult to protect, because the coverage area cannot be confined within walls and
protected with locks and security guards. Attackers can attempt to associate with access points
from neighboring buildings or even cars in parking lots or eavesdrop on private voice traffic that
is transmitted over the air. The wireless equivalent privacy (WEP) protocol was designed as a
solution to these problems. However, WEP has been cracked and replaced by Wi-FI protected
access (WPA) and 802.1x port-based network access control.

Using Encryption
WPA adds data encryption to WEP through the temporal key integrity protocol (TKIP) or
preshared secret key (PSK). TKIP uses a hashing algorithm to scramble the keys and adds an
integrity-checking feature to ensure that the keys have not been tampered with. WPA with TKIP
is called WPA2.

Implementing User Authentication

WPA also implements user authentication, which is generally missing in WEP, through the
extensible authentication protocol (EAP). WEP uses the media access control (MAC) address of
the mobile device to regulate access to a WLAN, whereas EAP can build on a more secure
public-key encryption system that grants access only to authorized WLAN users.

RADIUS Authentication
To prevent unauthorized access, an access point can authenticate mobile devices that attempt to
associate to it. The access point acts as a network access server (NAS) and communicates with a

Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel-Lucent Version 2.0 Administration Guide 21
2 Configuring WLAN for Dual-Mode

corporate authentication server that verifies user credentials. The corporate authentication server
can be a remote authentication dial-in user service (RADIUS) server, for example.

Key Management
For calls to continue seamlessly when users move from the range of one access point to another,
a WLAN must be able to associate a mobile device with a new access point within 100ms.
RADIUS authentication can make roaming times unacceptably long. For fast secure layer 2
roaming, you can use 802.1x authentication and encryption methods or Cisco centralized key
management (CCKM).
CCKM can reduce roaming times from 400ms to as low as 20ms. To use CCKM, you must
configure wireless domain services (WDS), either on an access point or on a wireless-aware
router. In addition, mobile devices must support an EAP method, such as the light extensible
authentication protocol (LEAP) to roam from one access point to another without involving the
main RADIUS server.

Cisco Compatible Extensions

Some network vendors have published sets of requirements for voice over WLAN applications
to make them compatible with their networks. For example, the Cisco compatible extensions
(CCX) standard specifies requirements for the supported security and QoS mechanisms, voice
enhancements, and VLAN, performance and management features. Nokia Eseries devices are
compatible with Cisco Compatible Extensions, release 3 (CCX3).

Supported Authentication and Encryption Methods

To help ensure security from mobile devices to the access point, you can use WLAN
authentication and encryption features that the mobile devices support. Nokia Eseries devices
support the following key management types:
„ WEP 64-bit
„ WEP 128-bit
„ 802.1x with dynamic WEP
„ WPA-PSK
„ WPA2-PSK
„ WPA-Enterprise
„ WPA2-Enterprise
„ CCKM (with TKIP cipher), recommended for fast roaming, supported only with 802.1x
Nokia Eseries devices support the following EAP modules:
„ EAP-TLS—transport layer security (TLS) provides communication privacy over the
Internet by allowing the client and server applications to communicate in a way that is
designed to prevent eavesdropping, tampering, or message forgery.
„ EAP-PEAP—protected extensible authentication protocol (PEAP) uses server-side public
key certificates to create an encrypted SSL/TLS tunnel between the client and the

22 Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel-Lucent Version 2.0 Administration Guide
Implementing Quality of Service

authentication server that protects the exchange of authentication information from casual
inspection.
„ EAP-LEAP—lightweight extensible authentication protocol (LEAP) is a proprietary
authentication method developed by Cisco Systems. LEAP uses dynamic WEP keys and
mutual authentication between a wireless client and a RADIUS server. LEAP allows clients
to reauthenticate frequently. Upon each successful authentication, the clients acquire a new
WEP key.
„ EAP-TTLS—tunneled transport layer security (TTLS) is an IETF draft open standard that
uses PKI certificates only on the authentication server and is widely supported across
platforms.
„ EAP-SIM—subscriber identity module (SIM) is a security module that is inserted into a
piece of mobile equipment for subscriber identification and other security related
information.
„ EAP-AKA—authentication and key agreement (AKA) authenticates the user and
establishes a new pair of cipher and integrity keys between the serving network visitor
location register (SN/VLR) and the device. During the authentication, the user verifies the
freshness of the authentication vector that is used.
„ EAP-MS-CHAPv2—Microsoft implementation of the challenge handshake authentication
protocol (MS-CHAP). MS-CHAP is an inner authentication method within the EAP-PEAP
module which facilitates user or device authentication. MS-CHAP is a two-way password
authentication scheme that requires the password not only to start a connection but also
during the connection.
„ EAP-GTC—generic token card (GTC) is an inner authentication method within the EAP-
PEAP module which facilitates user or device authentication by using token cards, such as
RSA SecurID.
Nokia Eseries devices support the following encryption methods:
„ WEP 64-bit
„ WEP 128-bit
„ TKIP
„ AES

Implementing Quality of Service

WLAN is a shared media system where the clients share the total network capacity. Therefore,
quality of service (QoS) is a major concern in a WLAN. The IEEE 802.11e standard defines QoS
for WLAN, but it is inadequately supported in the networking products currently on the market.
Nokia Eseries devices support the Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) standard that has been developed
by the Wi-FI Alliance (WFA) to enable manufacturers to implement interoperable products
before 802.11e is ratified.

2 Configuring WLAN for Dual-Mode

Virtual LAN
To provide priority treatment for voice packets when they travel across the network, create
separate virtual LANs (VLANs) for voice and data traffic. By separating mobile phones onto a
voice VLAN and assigning voice packets a higher class of service (CoS), you ensure that voice
traffic gets priority treatment over data traffic. This helps to minimize network delay, jitter, and
packet loss.

Considering Traffic Direction

A WLAN does not have dedicated bandwidth, and therefore you must consider traffic direction
when you implement QoS. Traffic is considered either downstream (from the access point to the
mobile device) or upstream (from the mobile device to the access point). The access point
applies QoS policies on downstream traffic and the device applies 802.11e or WMM on
upstream traffic.

Supported QoS Features

The following QoS features are supported in the WLAN and in the IP network:
„ WLAN QoS
„ Class of service (CoS)

„ WMM

„ Unscheduled automatic power save delivery (U-APSD)

„ Network QoS—DiffServ setting into IP header (IPv4 TOS) for RTP

„ CCX3
„ CCKM fast handoff

„ AP-controlled roaming

Using Codecs
To transmit analog voice over a digital IP network, analog voice waveforms are converted into
digital format by using compressor/decompressor (codec) systems. A codec is a data
compression algorithm that discards unimportant information to fit as much data into as small a
stream as possible. A codec must be robust enough to withstand a certain degree of data
degradation during transmission. The better the codec can recover from bit errors, the more
natural the voice reproduction is in different conditions.

24 Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel-Lucent Version 2.0 Administration Guide
Using Codecs

The codec to use during Internet calls depends on the network type and mobile device model.
Nokia Eseries devices support the following codecs:
„ AMR-NB—adaptive multi-rate narrow band (AMR-NB) is the mandatory speech codec for
third generation (3G) networks that provides mobile telephony applications with
compression of toll-quality speech. AMR is a multi-mode codec that supports several
narrow band (NB) speech encoding modes with bit rates of 12.2, 10.2, 7.95, 7.40, 6.70, 5.90,
5.15 and 4.75 kbps.
„ iLBC—Internet low bit rate codec (iLBC) is used for coding speech signals at 15.2 kbps for
20-ms frames and 13.33 kbps for 30-ms frames. iLBC is suitable for robust voice
communication over IP, and enables graceful speech quality degradation if frames are lost
when IP packets are lost or delayed.
„ PCMA—Also known as G.711-a. G.711 is a standard used in circuit-switched telephone
networks, such as ISDN. G.711 represents 8-bit compressed pulse code modulation (PCM)
samples for signals of voice frequencies, sampled at the rate of 8000 samples per second,
and requires 64 kpbs bandwidth. G.711-a uses the A law algorithm. The A law algorithm is
used in Europe and other countries, except the USA and Japan, where the µ-law algorithm
(G.711-µ) is used.
„ PCMU—Also known as G.711-µ. G.711-µ uses the µ-law algorithm, which is used in the
USA and Japan.
„ G.729—used for coding speech signals at 8 kbps. G.729 filters the telephone bandwidth of
the analog input signal, samples it and converts it to linear pulse code modulation (PCM) for
the input to the encoder.
Annex B of G.729 is a standard for silence compression that contains services for voice
activity detection (VAD), updating background noise parameters for non-speech frames, and
for generating comfort noise.
„ Comfort noise—Most conversations include silent moments and bandwidth can be saved
by not sending packages of silence over the network. However, it is easy to mistake silence
for a disconnected call. Therefore, mobile devices can generate comfort noise (CN) to make
the call appear normally connected to both parties.
Comfort noise is not an actual codec by itself, but is handled as such. This codec enables the
usage of generic comfort noise real-time transport protocol (RTP) payload format with
iLBC, PCMU and PCMA codecs. The RTP payload format is defined in RFC 3389.

„ Upgrading Nokia Intellisync Call Connect

Managing Licenses
Users need valid licenses to use Nokia Intellisync Call Connect v2.0 on their mobile devices.
You can either acquire perpetual licenses and deliver them to mobile devices or allow users to
acquire trial licenses to evaluate Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for a defined time period. The
first time users start Nokia Intellisync Call Connect, it connects to the license server.

Note
Users need an Internet connection to activate their license and to start using Nokia
Intellisync Call Connect.

You might have to configure the firewall to allow connections to the license server:
„ Server host name—netshop.openbit.com
„ Server IP address—89.250.62.105 (at the time of this publication)
„ Port number—80
If the domain name server (DNS) cannot resolve the license server host name, the connection
fails and you receive an error message.
If the device contains a valid license, users are prompted to accept a connection to the license
server for registering the license.
If the device does not contain a valid license, the license server allows users to either acquire a
trial license or to enter the license code. Each device reserves one end-user license in the license
server.

After the license is activated on a device, further connections to the license server are needed
only in the following situations:
„ License manager configuration files expire or users attempt to tamper with them.
„ Users attempt to tamper with the validity period of a trial or periodic license by
manipulating the date and time settings on the device.
„ The user upgrades from a trial license to a perpetual license.
When users receive new devices, they must obtain new licenses.
Users can activate several different licenses on the license server. For example, users can first
activate trial licenses, then upgrade them to perpetual single-mode licenses, and finally to
perpetual dual-mode licenses. After users receive new devices or reinstall Nokia Intellisync Call

Note
You can also use device management to install Nokia Intellisync Call Connect to mobile
devices.

Configuring Nokia Intellisync Call Connect

You have several options to configure Nokia Intellisync Call Connect on compatible Nokia
Eseries devices:
„ Text-file based configuration
„ Device management
„ Transatel Web site (cellular mode only)
You can deliver Nokia Intellisync Call Connect settings to mobile devices in a text file. You can
use the Nokia PC Suite or device management to upload the text file to mobile devices.
However, the text file does not contain all the settings that you must specify to run Nokia
Intellisync Call Connect in business WLAN mode. You can use device management to deliver
the additional settings or specify them manually on mobile devices.
You have several device management options. If you manage a small amount of devices, you can
use the Nokia Configuration Tool v2.3. You must have the devices at hand to manage them. To
manage large amounts of devices over-the-air, use Nokia Intellisync Device Manager. You can
also use third-party device management applications that are compatible with Open Mobile
Alliance device management (OMA DM) standard v1.2.
Device management applications can deliver values to nodes in the OMA device management
tree on mobile devices. This allows you to deliver settings to any application installed on mobile
devices that is compatible with OMA DM. To be able to deliver settings to applications, you
need the device description framework (DDF) document of the application. The contents of the
DDF document might differ according to the device model. You can download the DDF of
Nokia Intellisync Call Connect from the Nokia Support site.
The following sections describe the settings that you must deliver and the tools that you can use
to deliver them:

Settings to Deliver
To use Nokia Intellisync Call Connect in dual-mode, you must deliver the following settings to
mobile devices:
„ Phone Number Conversions
„ Nokia Intellisync Call Connect Features
„ Business Settings
„ Business WLAN Mode Settings

Phone Number Conversions

Specify conversions to adapt canonical and national numbers in the phone contacts to the PBX
numbering plan. The Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Translator service performs number
conversions. The following characters are ignored in phone numbers: space, parentheses, dash
(-).
If a phone number in phone contacts contains a country code or an area code, Alcatel-Lucent
Cellular Extension checks whether the phone number is defined within the enterprise PBX. If it
is, Cellular Extension might make an internal call to the extension number mapped to the phone
number. If it is not, Cellular Extension replaces the country and area codes with the appropriate
digits to make the external call from Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX. An outbound prefix is required
to make external calls.
If a number begins with the international prefix (+), Nokia Intellisync Call Connect replaces it
with the appropriate digits to make the international call from OmniPCX. PBX rules for least-
cost routing are observed.

Nokia Intellisync Call Connect Features

In business mode, users can employ PBX services to handle active business calls. To use PBX
services, Nokia Intellisync Call Connect first sets up a call to the PBX and then uses DTMF
sequences to issue commands to the PBX.
Specify the DTMF sequences that users can employ. Use the Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX
Enterprise Configuration application to check the features Intellisync Call Connect is configured
to support and the prefix configured for each feature:
„ To see which classes of service are allocated to mobile devices, select Classes of Service >
Phone Features Classes of Service.
„ To check the DTMF sequence to turn a feature on or off, select:
„ Translator > Prefix Plan

„ Applications > Remote Extension Parameters

In Prefix Plan, you set DTMF sequences for the Nokia Intellisync Call Connect features that are
located in the Nokia Intellisync Call Connect main menu. In Remote Extension Parameters, you
set DTMF sequences for the Nokia Intellisync Call Connect features to handle active business
calls.

32 Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel-Lucent Version 2.0 Administration Guide
Configuring Nokia Intellisync Call Connect

For more information about how to use the OmniVista 4760i configuration application, see the
OmniPCX Enterprise OmniPCX Integrated Cellular Client and OmniPCX Enterprise e-Config
(4760i) Application guide by Alcatel-Lucent.

Business Settings
You specify values for business settings when you create users with the Alcatel-Lucent
OmniPCX Enterprise Configuration application. Business settings are user-specific. Nokia
Intellisync Call Connect prompts users to enter the required business settings the first time the
mobile device registers to the PBX and stores the settings for subsequent use. If a user
experiences problems while attempting to specify the settings correctly, you can deliver the
settings to the user’s mobile device as a text file.
For more information about how to use the Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Enterprise Configuration
application to create users, see the OmniPCX Enterprise OmniPCX Integrated Cellular Client
guide by Alcatel-Lucent.

Caller Identification
When Nokia Intellisync Call Connect registers to the PBX or sets up a call with the PBX,
Alcatel-Lucent Cellular Extension checks the identity of the caller. The caller is identified either
by mobile number or by user-specific passwords stored in business settings. Nokia Intellisync
Call Connect sends the authentication information to Cellular Extension that checks the users’
credentials and authenticates users to register to the PBX and to make calls. The authentication
settings to specify depend on the authentication mode used for Cellular Extension, as follows:
„ Mobile number authentication—Cellular Extension checks that the user’s mobile number
is configured in the speed dialing table.
„ Password authentication, mode 1—Cellular Extension checks the user’s authentication
extension, PIN, and secret code that are configured in the Cellular Extension.
„ Password authentication, mode 2—Cellular Extension checks the user’s authentication
extension, DISA password, secret code, and trunk group number configured in the Cellular
Extension. Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Office supports mode 2.

Specifying Business Settings

To specify business settings, select Users in the Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Enterprise
Configuration application. Deliver the values of the following business settings to users if you
use password authentication:
„ Directory No.—the extension number that you assign to the internal cellular client. Users
enter the number in the Authentication Extension field in business settings in Nokia
Intellisync Call Connect.
„ PIN No.—a private identifier number (PIN). Users enter the PIN in the DISA Password
field in business settings in Nokia Intellisync Call Connect. However, the voice guide might
ask for a Project Account code.
„ Secret Code—a personal identification code (password) that is a text string of 4 characters.
Users can change their secret code from their desk extension. If they change the secret code,

Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel-Lucent Version 2.0 Administration Guide 33
3 Provisioning Nokia Intellisync Call Connect

they must also change it on their mobile device. Users must also enter the secret code to
change their availability information in the telephone exchange.

Note
Nokia Intellisync Call Connect requires that users enter the secret code, so always
select the Secret Code check box in Users > Edit.

„ Trunk Group Number—Public network trunk group on which calls between Intellisync
Call Connect and the internal cellular client transit must be DISA. Needed only if you use
mode 2.
To view the trunk group number, select Trunk Groups > Trunk Group in the OmniPCX
Enterprise Configuration application.
In addition, users need the following information:
„ Extension—extension number within the telephone exchange. The extension number is
used to transfer calls to the desk extension.
„ Voice Mailbox—the number of their business voice mailbox. You specify it in User details.
„ Voice Mailbox Password—the PIN code to access the business voice mailbox. The default
PIN code is 0000. Users must change the PIN code the first time they call the voice mailbox.

Business WLAN Mode Settings

In business WLAN mode, Nokia Intellisync Call Connect uses voice over Internet protocol
(VoIP) technology and the session initiation protocol (SIP) to make business calls over an IP
network, such as the Internet. You can make Internet calls to computers, other mobile devices,
VoIP devices, and traditional telephones. You must be within WLAN coverage to make Internet
calls.
To use Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel-Lucent in business WLAN mode, you must
deliver the following settings to mobile devices:
„ WLAN access point
„ SIP
„ Internet telephony (VoIP)
For more information about how to configure Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX for dual-mode, see the
product documention by Alcatel-Lucent.

WLAN Access Point Settings

Nokia Intellisync Call Connect uses a WLAN access point to access the enterprise WLAN and
to operate in business WLAN mode. Specify a descriptive name for the connection and the
WLAN network name (SSID).

34 Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel-Lucent Version 2.0 Administration Guide
Configuring Nokia Intellisync Call Connect

You can use WEP, WPA, or 802.1x port-based network access control for network security. WEP
supports two authentication methods:
„ Open authentication—allows any device network access. To request authentication, a
device sends an authentication management frame that contains the identity of the sending
device to another device or to an access point. The receiving station or access point grants
any request for authentication. If no encryption is enabled on the network, any device that
knows the service set identifier (SSID) of the access point can gain access to the network.
„ Shared-key authentication—access points send a challenge-text packet to mobile devices
to encrypt with the correct WEP key and return to the access point. Access to the WLAN is
allowed only to mobile devices that have the required keys.
If you enable WEP, mobile devices use the WEP keys to encrypt the data that mobile devices
transmit. Mobile devices discard all received packets that are not encrypted with the WEP keys.
WEP keys are either 64 or 128 bits in length. Specify the WEP key in hexadecimal format.
Nokia Eseries devices support dynamic WEP, where the WEP keys are changed dynamically. To
use dynamic WEP, select 802.1x authentication as the WLAN Security Mode in mobile devices.
This allows you to specify EAP options for dynamic WEP by selecting WPA/WPA2. Enable
EAP-PEAP, configure the CA certificate, and specify other EAP settings.

SIP Settings
SIP profiles are used for creating, modifying, and terminating Internet calls with one or more
participants. SIP requires proxy and registrar network elements to work as a practical service.
SIP proxy servers route communication session requests to the user's current location,
authenticate and authorize users for services, implement provider call-routing policies, and
provide features to users.
SIP provides a registration function that allows users to upload their current locations for use by
proxy servers. A server that handles a register is called a registrar. Often, a registrar for a domain
is co-located with the SIP proxy for that domain. Users receive a public username from the
service provider that specifies the registrar that keeps track of the user’s location. Specify the
public username in the following format:
sip:<external_call_prefix><mobile_number>@proxy_IP_address
For example, 00401112223 if the mobile number is 0401112223. For users in other countries,
also specify the international call prefix and country code. For example, 00012223334. Do not
include the plus (+) sign.
The SIP registration mechanism allows a device to identify itself to a registrar as a device at
which a user with a particular public username is located. Nokia Intellisync Call Connect
automatically turns on the automatic registration mode for the SIP profile when you enter the
corporate WLAN coverage area. Therefore, you must disable always-on registration for the SIP
profile.
Specify the fully-qualified host name or IP address and port number to connect to the registrar
and proxy server and the transport protocols to use for the connections. Optionally, specify the
username, password, and realm to authenticate the user to the registrar and proxy server.

Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel-Lucent Version 2.0 Administration Guide 35
3 Provisioning Nokia Intellisync Call Connect

You can specify that the SIP profile uses loose routing, which means that the SIP proxy separates
the destination of the communications session request from the set of proxies that need to be
visited along the way.

Internet Telephony Settings

Internet telephony settings determine how users can use IP connections on mobile devices for
voice conversations. Nokia Intellisync Call Connect uses SIP to provide the call-processing
functions and services of a public switched-telephone network. Specify settings for the SIP
profile to use for Internet calls.
By default, the default Media QoS value in devices is 46 which is optimized for video. You can
use device management to optimize the Media QoS value for voice (56) and to activate the
unscheduled automatic power save delivery (U-APSD) in Nokia Intellisync Call Connect if the
WLAN supports it.

Intelligent Network Support

Some network operators provide an intelligent network (IN) service that routes cellular calls to
the PBX. Nokia Intellisync Call Connect supports intelligent networks. Users can make business
calls and use other Nokia Intellisync Call Connect features, even though the calls are not routed
through the PBX.
When IN support is enabled, Nokia Intellisync Call Connect routes outgoing calls directly to the
cellular network, just as personal calls. The mobile operator can route the call to the IN for
phone number conversions and call setup to Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX. Alcatel-Lucent
OmniPCX analyzes the call, sets up a call to the internal cellular client, and then uses DTMF
sequences to issue commands to the internal cellular client.
You can allow users to turn off IN support on their mobile devices while they are roaming in
networks that do not have IN support, for example.

Delivering Settings as a Text File

You can download an example configuration file, EsVoiceSettingsData.txt from the Nokia
Support site. You can use any text editor to modify the text file.
To use Nokia Intellisync Call Connect for Alcatel-Lucent in business WLAN mode, you must
specify the following additional settings on mobile devices:
„ WLAN access point
„ SIP
„ Internet telephony (VoIP)
You can either use device management to deliver the above settings or specify them manually on
mobile devices.

To deliver settings as a text file

1. Use a Web browser to access the Nokia Support site to download the example configuration
file, EsVoiceSettingsData.txt, to a PC:
https://support.nokia.com
Follow the instructions on the Web site.
2. Open EsVoiceSettingsData.txt to edit the settings.
For more information about the settings, see “Summary of Settings” on page 37.
3. Copy EsVoiceSettingsData.txt to the C:\Data folder on mobile devices.
4. Turn the power off and on in the device.
Nokia Intellisync Call Connect retrieves the settings from the file and renames the file
EsVoiceSettingsData.bak. To edit the settings, copy a new version of
EsVoiceSettingsData.txt to the C:\Data folder.

Settings File Format

You can specify settings as integer numbers or text strings. Each line in the text file represents
one setting. Blank lines are ignored and an error causes the reading of the text file to end. We
recommend that you place the PBX ID as the first entry in the settings file. The last line of the
text file must be a blank line.
Comment lines begin with two slashes (//). Nokia Intellisync Call Connect ignores all
information on a comment line. You cannot place comments after settings data on the same line.
To remove a setting from the text file, add a comment at the beginning of the line.
The file contains the following information about each setting:
„ Data type—defines whether the data is a string or an integer. The value 0 means a string and
1 means an integer.
„ ID—uniquely identifies the setting.
„ Value—an integer or a string, depending on the data type. Integers must be specified in
decimal.

Summary of Settings
You can use the text file to deliver settings to mobile devices as described in the following

Using Nokia Intellisync Device Manager

Nokia Intellisync Device Manager is an application to manage mobile devices over-the-air. You
can manage devices that contain the built-in client application, Device Manager. Device
management covers the whole life cycle of a mobile device:
„ Taking mobile devices into use for the first time.
„ Installing and upgrading applications and settings on mobile devices.
„ Managing security and mobility features of mobile devices.
„ Wiping the data on mobile devices when the devices reach their end of life.
When a device is taken into use in the enterprise environment, a trust relationship must first be
formed between the user, device, and the enterprise infrastructure. Second, enterprise
applications can be installed and settings and policies can be delivered to mobile devices.
You can use Intellisync Device Manager to install, configure, and activate Nokia Intellisync Call
Connect for Alcatel-Lucent on mobile devices, as described in the following sections:
„ Managing Users and User Groups
„ Delivering Device Management Profiles to Mobile Devices
„ Specifying Settings for Business WLAN Mode
„ Using Nokia Intellisync Device Manager OMA DM Edition v2.0.4
„ Using Future Nokia Intellisync Device Manager Versions
Contact your Nokia sales representative to acquire licenses for Intellisync Device Manager.

Managing Users and User Groups

Users must have user accounts in Nokia Intellisync Device Manager for you to manage their
mobile devices. Add users to the Intellisync Device Manager database in the following ways:
„ Create users.
You can write CLI scripts to create several users as a batch.
„ Import and synchronize user data from an external user database.
„ Use authentication domains to add users automatically to the database upon successful
logon.
You can add users to user groups and select the user groups as targets for tasks. The tasks that
you assign to the user group are performed on the users’ mobile devices the next time when the
mobile device connects to Intellisync Device Manager.
You create mobile devices in Intellisync Device Manager and assign the mobile devices to users.
To manage Nokia E51 devices, you must add support for them to device groups. You receive
CLI scripts to add new device groups to support additional device models and firmware versions
from Nokia Support.

Delivering Device Management Profiles to Mobile Devices

You use Nokia Intellisync Device Manager to create a device management profile for each
mobile device and to deliver the profiles to mobile devices as short messages. The short
messages contain Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) device management (DM) client provisioning
messages. They are protected by a PIN code and specify the following settings:
„ Nokia Intellisync Device Manager server host name or IP address and port number
„ Protocol to use for communication between the client and the server, HTTP or HTTPS
„ Username and password for the client
„ Username and password of the server
When the short message arrives in the mobile device, the user must insert the PIN code to open
the message and to save the settings. The mobile device then asks the user to accept a device
management connection to Intellisync Device Manager.
Mobile devices use the device management profiles to establish subsequent device management
connections to Intellisync Device Manager over HTTP or HTTPS. Intellisync Device Manager
determines the tasks to perform for mobile devices and uses OMA DM to perform the tasks.
OMA DM involves all the repetitive management actions, including parameter modifications,
diagnostics, application management, and customizing. OMA DM uses a two-way session
between a device management server and the device being managed, and, to ensure security, a
trusted relationship must be maintained between these two.

Table 8 DTMF Sequences
Setting Name Example Value Description

Escape Sequence ** Used to issue DTMF sequences defined in the

Applications > Remote Extension Parameters dialog
with the Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Enterprise
Configuration application.

Second Call 2 DTMF sequence to start a second call, for example to

request callback, reverse calls, or park calls. When
Nokia Intellisync Call Connect sends the DTMF
sequence to start a second call, the PBX puts the
active call on hold and generates a hold tone on the
line. Then the PBX makes the second call.

Call Back 5 DTMF sequence to request callback when the line is

busy.

Call Park 305 DTMF sequence to park a call.

If users do not pick up the parked call before a timer
goes off, external calls are rerouted either to the
attendant or to the number that parked the call.

Call Attendant 601 DTMF sequence to call the PBX attendant.

Message Deposit 8 DTMF sequence to leave messages in voice

mailboxes.

Back & Forth 1 DTMF sequence to swap between an active and a

held call. Only one call on the mobile device is active.

End Call * DTMF sequence to end a second call.

When either the caller or recipient ends an active call,
the GSM signaling link is closed and no DTMF
command is required by the PBX. However, if the PBX
has made a second call, a release command is
required to indicate which call to end without closing
the GSM signaling link. The PBX disconnects the
active call and activates the held call.

Transfer 4 DTMF sequence to relocate an active call to another

number.

Table 8 DTMF Sequences

Setting Name Example Value Description

Conference 3 DTMF sequence to create or end a three-party

conference call. When Nokia Intellisync Call Connect
sends the DTMF sequence to start a three-party
conference, the PBX orders the held call to leave held
state and to join active communication with the other
two participants. The PBX supports the conference
bridge.
When one of the participants leaves the conference,
the two remaining participants can continue the call.

Voicemail Number 51102 DTMF sequence to divert calls to business voice mail.

Voicemail Consultation 102 Extension number to access the voice mailbox.

To check messages in the voice mailbox, Nokia
Intellisync Call Connect first sets up a call to the PBX.
The PBX generates the dialing progress tone on the
mobile device, and is ready to receive DTMF
commands from Intellisync Call Connect. The PBX
recognizes the extension number defined in the
private numbering plan to access the voice mailbox
and establishes a call between the mobile device and
the voice mailbox.
Users might have to enter a password to access the
voice mailbox. Users can employ keyboard
commands to handle voice mail. The PBX relays
DTMF commands to voice mail.

Call Forward Activation 307 DTMF sequence to divert calls.

To divert calls to the voice mailbox or to another
phone number, Nokia Intellisync Call Connect first
sets up a call to the PBX. When the PBX receives the
command to divert calls, it observes the condition for
diverting calls and the destination to divert calls to.
Users can divert all calls or divert calls only when no
one answers or when the line is busy. Users can divert
business calls to their business voice mailbox or to
another phone number. The PBX diverts calls until
Intellisync Call Connect issues a command to cancel
call diverting.

Call Forward Cancelling 308 DTMF sequence to cancel call diverting.

Emergency 18,224 List of emergency numbers, separated with commas

(,).

Call Forward on No 323 DTMF sequence to divert calls when no one answers.

Reverse Call On/Off Allows users to reverse the charges of a mobile call to
the PBX. The PBX puts the other party on hold while it
converts the outgoing call into an incoming call. Once
the call is created, users can employ all PBX services
to handle the call.
