Philosophy of Education
To me teaching means helping to shape my students lives, not only academically
but personally and socially as well. As teachers, we have the opportunity to par
ticipate in the shaping of the future. It is the children of today that are the
generation of tomorrow. I believe that often it is not the lessons taught from a
textbook that are remembered, but rather those lessons taught about life that l
eave the greatest impression.
For me, the ideal classroom atmosphere in which to teach is one that is centere
d around progressivism. In this type of atmosphere it would be my responsibility
to facilitate learning and to consider my students interests when developing th
e curriculum. The curriculum would be based on the needs and interests of the st
udents, it would also promote social development and the development of good mor
als.
I believe that all children have the ability to learn and must be given equal o
pportunities in order to achieve success. As a teacher it is my job to assist gr
owth in each and every one of my students. Each child is unique, including the w
ay in which he or she learns. It is my job as a teacher to assist each child in
learning to utilize different strategies to achieve academic and personal succes
s.
I became a teacher because I can not dream of doing anything more rewarding wit
h my life than working with children. There are not many professions that would
allow me the same opportunity to positively affect our future, as teaching does.
