Executed work involving both Architecture and Urban Design for City Government a
nd Institutional Clients.
Master Planning a" Prepared master plans for Johns Hopkins Hospital and for Ford
ham University at Lincoln Center. Prepared inventory of existing space, plans of
existing at all levels, the analysis of this information and the preparation of
planning options given different growth scenarios. Prepared complex ULURP appli
cation for Fordham University involving the addition of 1 million additional squ
are feet of academic, dormitory, and private condominium space to their current
space inventory.
Urban Design a" Originated new precinct plan for Fountain Square in Cincinnati,
Ohio. Developed plan in conjunction with user organizations, consultants, and ci
ty representatives. The work included the design of a new restaurant and the ref
urbishment of a five storey parking garage under the square.
Architecture a" Developed design for the Athletic Facilities at the Fieldston Sc
hool in the Bronx.
Responsible for concept, and the development of the sketch design for the propos
ed new Law School at Fordham University.

Space Planning a" Originated and developed a space plan for the Head Office of t
he Muller Sports Group on 5th Avenue, New York. Completed schematic design, desi
gn development, construction documentation and administered contract to its succ
essful completion.
Re-organized and refurbished space for the Renal Research Group.
Architecture/New Construction a" Designed and documented 15 unit apartment block
in Hoboken.

Besides the day-to-day running of a practice of 10-15 people, was actively invol
ved in client liaison, the design, documentation, and contract administration of
all projects in the office.
Public Works a" Designed and documented large conference facility for the City o
f Durban. Flexibility and multi-use was an overriding objective in the design. T
o this end the three major spaces, a 1800 seat Plenary Hall and two Exhibition H
alls, lie in tandem and are capable of being linked as one space or being sub-di
vided into smaller spaces using a system of operable walls.
The project was the winner of the South African Institute of Architects Award of
Merit in 1999 and itas Award of Excellence in 2000.
Institutional Work a" Successfully completed a Master Plan for the University of
Natalas Howard College Campus. This led to further appointments to undertake si
milar work at two other locations a" the Pietermaritzburg Campus, and the Medica
l School Campus.
Subsequently designed, documented, and administered contract for Office and Conf
erence facilities for the University Innovation Foundation.

Duties included the design, documentation, and contract administration of large
public and private projects.
Health Care a" Researched and developed the program for a 100 chair Dental Teach
ing Hospital at the University of Durban-Westville. Subsequently developed conc
ept and sketch designs for the Hospital.
Designed ward blocks for the King George V Psychiatric Hospital in Durban.
Educational Facilities a" Designed, documented and administered two Schools for
the Mentally Handicapped. Included dormitory, catering and workshop facilities i
n a campus setting.
Acted as partner in charge of a new Technical High School for the Provincial Gov
ernment. Designed and documented dormitory facilities for 300 students.
Adaptive Re-Use/Retail a" Partner in Charge of the conversion of old railway wor
kshops into a Shopping Center. Responsible for the refurbishment of the exterior
fa*ade of the existing building and for the design documentation and contract a
dministration of an associated urban park over a 1000 bay parking garage.
An adjacent project, commissioned by the City of Durban, looked into the renovat
ion and extension of the old Durban Station Building. The design considered urba
n design issues relating to the creation and closing of vistas, pedestrian acces
s, the scale, and proportion of the building, and various possible configuration
s of the interior. The proposal was accepted by the City Council and a RFP issu
ed with the design as basis.
