Past Experience:
* FTR International Senior Engineer Irvine, CA US Apr 2010 to present
Property Protection and Security: Designed and developed water sensor unit for p
roperty protection. Unit sends alert signal to shut down water source upon detec
tion of water leakage. I also supported the design and testing of the security s
ystem networks for FTR constructions including Access Control, Fire Alarm, CCTV,
and the Security Integration.

* Tyco Sensormatic Senior Engineer Boca Raton, FL US Jan 2001 Apr 2010
Designed and developed various Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) and Radio F
requency Identification (RFID) systems and provided customer support and field s
ervice nationwide and internationally. I have successfully handled these tasks a
nd completed the following responsibilities:
EAS Asset Protection AST2: I Designed and Developed the patented 4 versions of
hardware and firmware and sensor circuits for the EAS security device used for C
ustomer Asset Protection. The coin cell battery operated Alarming Super Tag (AST
2) actively combats theft while allowing customers to freely examine and try pro
tected merchandise inside the store. The AST2 built-in wailing alarm and the exi
t system alarm alert store personal if merchandise is taken nearby the exit door
s detection zone or is tampered with. The AST2 built in Microprocessor, sensors,
delicate antenna, and detection circuit provide unique security solution with v
arious functions added to the challenge to fit all of these intelligent features
inside this slim package design. The AST2 can store user data for purposes such
as number of incidents and warranty grants.
EAS Automatic Detacher MK91: I Designed and Developed the Microchip based MK91
Detach System hardware and firmware. The enhanced version of MK91 allows safe re
moval of EAS tag from protected merchandise. My new design added new features, r
educed cost by 40%, cut PCB size by 30%, enhanced power consumption, and reduced
service calls. The design included high and low power circuits, motor control
using the Allegro A3959 PWM Controller, power monitoring and regulation. The aut
o recovery algorithm combats mechanical jamming and prevents accidental mishandl
ing of the system and accidental power interruption for added robustness and hig
h product reliability.
NewGen RFID System: I Designed and Developed the patented NewGen hardware and f
irmware New Generation RFID Detacher System used to relay useful data packets to
the backbone of the department store through the RFID Reader. The NewGen will g
rant detach transaction and will safely remove EAS tag from protected merchandis
e only after the Hybrid (EAS and RFID) tag is interrogated first and then passed
the authentication test via the main communication channels. The NewGen has ma
ny intelligent features enabling fast transaction along with the RFID reader and
electronically access large database of inventory to deduct the authenticated i
tem. The NewGen has intelligent user menu that allows changing various parameter
s for operating, testing, and automation. The device is equipped with circuits p
roviding immunity against EMC and ESD problems along the RS232 interface and exp
osed areas. Sensing and Detection are accomplished via the firmware gating of th
e RFID antenna reader and the IR sensor pairs. The project was very challenging
in marrying the RFID and EAS technologies together.
EAS Networked MK395 Detacher: I Designed and Developed the Microchip and Allegr
o based hardware, firmware, and the application interface for the EAS Networked
MK395 system. The MK395 is capable of connecting to an RFID reader, Local Device
Management (LDM) system, or the RS232 network. It will safely remove the EAS se
curity tag from protected merchandise once a tag is properly inserted into the s
ense chamber and sequence of sensor switches are pressed to authenticate and ini
tiate the detach cycle. My new design reduced cost by 20% and greatly improved p
erformance and reliability. I also designed new Windows based GUI application in
terface that allows easy manual and automatic control of the MK395 via the PC co
mputer. The MK395 can then be activated or inhibited via the PC, change password
, enter into various modes of operation, and perform many other operations. IP D
ata packets are sent via the RS232 for control or converted into RS485 for netwo
rking. The electromechanical interface is a challenging task in fine tuning part
dimensions, calibrating firmware timing, and sensors precise positioning. Auto
recovery algorithms were designed to calibrate for moving parts home position, r
ecover from jamming, and accidental power failure. Unique Data Packet Structures
were employed to secure electronic communications with the other security produ
cts and to prevent interference and manage multiple accesses across the LDM netw
ork.
Detection and Deactivation Engineering: I Designed the Automatic Test Equipment
and fixtures for prototype engineering build, field testing, Six Sigma data col
lection, and supported manufacturing plants. I coordinated efforts with engineer
ing, QA, compliance, and marketing departments to insure customer satisfaction.
I successfully completed the following projects: Wide Exit System for antitheft
detection, Handheld Detection and Deactivation HHD, Robot Automation and Testing
, Magnetic and Mechanical EAS Detach Systems, Identification and Tagging Product
s, System Integration, Detection and Deactivation Power Packs, Wireless Synchron
ization for prevention of False Alarms, and Power Management for operation in ha
rsh environmental transition.
NewGen ScanMax Pro: ScanMax Pro Detects / Deactivates EAS security tags. I Des
igned and Developed the EAS 58 KHz Detection circuits for antenna multiplexer, r
eceiver, signal conditioning, signal conversion, frequency lock, and ETSI filter
ing.
* EF Johnson RF Engineer Radio Designer Waseca MN, US - 2000 2001
I Designed and Developed Handheld Radio Equipment amplifiers, signal conditionin
g and multiplexing, data conversion, and signal distribution. I used Eagleware,
MathCad, and PSPICE to analyze, simulate, and optimize various RF and microwave
circuits.
* Tri-Vision Electronics RF CATV Markham, ON Canada - 1992 2000
I Designed and Developed and tested RF CATV line equipment circuits, Infra Red r
emote control transmit & receive units, organized communication data structure,
built the library of encoding and decoding IR signals, designed the CATV related
circuits operating at VHF/UHF bands, and wrote various test procedures.
* TL Industries Electrical Engineer Walbridge, OH - 1990 1992
I Performed QA, tested medical & automation equipment, and supported the design
of Automated Test Equipment for Control Panels and other products.
