Perform holistic nursing care: head-to-toe assessment,
IV treatment, pain management, routine laboratory tests
and discharge planning. Responsible for physical
assessments, rhythm interpretation and appropriate
therapies for patients requiring 24-hour telemetry
monitoring, e.g. COPD, pneumonia, chest tubes, obesity
and parenteral nutrition. Assist in all of the following:
* Rapid assessment and key monitoring of patient
condition and continual adjustment of critical care drips,
such as dobutamine, heparin, furosemide, dopamine,
nitroglycerine and cardizem.
* Document patient symptoms and monitor labs,
bloodwork and urinalysis; relay information to physicians
and anesthesiologists; update flow sheets.
* Set up and monitor main bags and piggybacks of
medication into PVADs and central lines, along with G-
tube and IV medication; initiate heparin drips and sliding
scale insulin.
* Provide detailed patient/family teaching regarding
equipment usage, nutrition, bandage changing and
medication.
* Prepare patients for various tests, pacemakers and
cath lab.
* Provide wound care (stages 1-4), including dressing
changes.
* Insert Foley catheters and provide ostomy care.
* Assess vent for appropriate settings.
* Prepare patients for transfer for hemodialysis.
