High Rise Buildings


* Detroit Renaissance Center, Phases II & III, Detroit, Michigan. $175M riverfro
nt project expansion with deep basement supported on caissons. The work also inc
luded the Renaissance Center Parking structure on the riverfront. This is consid
ered to be the most prestigious building project in Detroit.
* Prudential Town Center Development, Southfield, Michigan. 33-story condominium
structures, 20-story office building on mat foundation, and multi-level parking
structures on shallow caissons. This is the largest commercial building develop
ment of Southfield.
* Riverfront West Apartment Development, Detroit, Michigan. Three 33-story cond
ominium Towers on piles driven into bedrock on Detroit Riverfront. Evaluated 12-
400-ton ultimate capacity pile load tests, and also designed the marina on the
river connected to the Towers. Soil investigation involved a 150-foot long barge
on the Detroit River for the largest building project of Detroit.

Harsens Island Housing Development, Michigan. Geotechnical services, design rec
ommendations and report for the $170M deluxe housing project on the deltaic isl
and of Lake St Clair, with 6-mile long seawalls and boat slips. Pre-excavated c
anals at the backyard to be connected to the St Clair River discharging into th
e nearby Lake St Clair. Conducted two field experiments, with and without wick

Cellular Cofferdams Structural Design, Michigan. Geotechnical and structural de
sign for cellular cofferdams extending 140 feet into the Detroit River for the
proposed land development scheme for Riverfront West Apartment Development.
Detroit River Seawall Renovation Design, Detroit, Michigan. Prepared a renovati
on design for the Detroit River Seawall across Riverfront West Apartment Devel
opment.
Revetment III Design, Dow Chemical Co., Midland, Michigan. Designed a sheeting
seawall system along Tittabawassee River banks for more than half a mile. Desig
n included wave equation analysis for pile drivability studies.

Canadian National Bridge Replacements in Iowa and Wisconsin, Report preparations
for numerous projects including engineering analysis for pile capacity, spring
constants for lateral pile capacity and selection of pile hammers based on wav

te structural design of the earth retention system for the 50-foot deep tied-ba
ck full basement excavation in sand for the $275M hospital project.
Mott Tunnel, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Geotechnical analysis
and a complete structural design 50-foot deep braced excavation in sand connec
ting the new and the existing hospitals.
GM Plant, Romulus, Michigan. Geotechnical analysis and a complete structural de
sign for a 300- foot by 80-foot by 47-foot deep braced and tied-back excavation
in clay, designed to laterally support plant building caissons within 3 feet of
excavation.
Hydramatic, Ypsilanti, Michigan. Designed a 46-foot deep by 58-foot diameter v
ertical shaft in clay braced with circular ring beam rigs and lagging.
Hutzel Hospital, Detroit, Michigan. Designed a 45-foot deep belled tied-back ex
cavation in clay for new basement to building addition.
Tally Hall, Arbor, Michigan. Geotechnical services for an underground retail st
ores supported by augercast piles retention system.
Alice Crocker Lloyd Medical Building, University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbo
r, Michigan. Designed a 30-foot deep raker-supported excavation in clay along t
he street carrying truck traffic.
Renaissance Center Phase II and III Developments, Detroit, Michigan.- Designed
a 25 to 35-foot deep large excavation for underground parking at the riverfront

Ten Mile Road and Grand Trunk Railroad, Warren, Michigan. 35-foot braced excava
tion in clay, also supporting train loads from three railroad tracks.
Johns Manneville Fiber Plant, Knoxville, Tennessee. Large excavations inside th
e plant supported by soldier piles in pre-drilled holes.
Cass Tech High School Addition, Detroit, Michigan. Geotechnical services for a
tied-back steel anchored bulkhead system for basement excavation support.
Lift Station, Batavia, New York. Designed a 40-foot deep braced excavation into
residual soils and rock. Design included the effect of rock blasting. (1996)
Tunnels, Subways & Conduits
Garfield Interceptor, Macomb County, Michigan. Geotechnical investigation and i
nterpretative geotechnical report preparation for a 7-foot diameter sewer tunne
l at a 44 ft depth in mixed soil, water and methane gas environment. The sewer
tied up with the Detroit system.
Woodward Subway, Detroit, Michigan. Prepared geotechnical report in the priorit
y engineering impact analysis phase of the 8- mile long subway from Jefferson
Avenue to McNichols Road.
The Calcutta Subway, Kolkata, India, Led the design team of the Government of I
ndia in preparing the initial design to help in the cost estimate of the 10-mi
le long and 1 billion dollar first subway of SE Asia built using cut-and- cover
construction and shield tunneling in alluvial deposits

260-foot High Landfill, Riverview, Michigan. Design for height addition and ins
trumentation.
90-foot High Earth Dam, East Palestine, Ohio. Site investigation, design, and c
onstruction specifications.
Gladwin Dam Gladwin, Michigan. Refurbishing of an earth dam undergoing seepage
and "quick" condition
Brighton Dam, Brighton, Michigan. Strengthened the dam undergoing seepage on th
e downstream face.
Failures
River Road Failure, Saginaw, Michigan. Failure analysis and designed remedial
construction of the failure of Tittabawassee River slope involving a 600-foot s
ection of River Road.
Crow Island Dikes Failure, Saginaw, Michigan. Designed remedial construction.
Rouge River Sloe Failure at New Industrial Complex, Southfield, Michigan Failur
e analysis and remedial construction design.
Dike Distress, New Ashfield, Erie, Michigan. Distress investigation and constru
ction resumption of 30-foot high, 1-mile long dikes with control of foundation
