EMPLOYMENT SYNOPSIS
STIRLING ENERGY SYSTEMS, SCOTTSDALE, AZ
August 2007 - November 2010
Senior Mechanical Engineer/Project Leader
Cross functional product development of dish/engine systems for utility scale po
wer generation applications. Lead engineering responsibility for all technical a
spects of the power generation unit including requirements definition and flow-d
own, conceptual and detailed design, supply chain management, validation, cost r
eduction, performance optimization, reliability enhancements, monitoring field p
erformance and establishing tools for diagnostics and health monitoring. Managed
the cross functional activity that involved both internal as well as external s
takeholders in an enterprise framework emphasizing lean engineering and manufact
uring best practices.
CHICAGO BRIDGE AND IRON, PLAINFIELD, IL
FEB 2007 - August 2007
(PROJECT CONSULTING/CONTRACTING)
Various projects in analysis and design of large scale engineering systems and s
ub-systems related to oil/natural gas and petrochemical industry
INTERNATIONAL TRUCK AND ENGINE CORP, MELROSE PARK, IL JAN 2005 - FEB 200
7
Project Engineer, Turbochargers and Engine Systems
Responsible for all activities involved in taking engine systems components from
concept through production. Duties include performing packaging studies and 3D
layouts of sub-systems within the packaging environment and constraints, documen
ting new initiatives, working with current and future suppliers to ensure qualit
y and on time delivery of parts, develop and maintain BOM's, workplans, support
failure analysis activities and quality initiatives, interface with manufacturin
g to ensure best manufacturing practices, support prototype builds, develop DFME
A's, DVP's and their effective implementation that lead to robust product design
s, support product release process through extensive use of 3D modeling approach
es and 2D drawings, support warranty and failure issues resolution. Extensive u
se of various simulation (FEA/CFD) tools in conjunction with prototype and compo
nent validation/testing during all stages of design process. Extensive customer
interfacing and cross functional interaction. Extensive use of state of the art
project management techniques, value engineering principles. Presenting viable
product solutions with cost estimates and other feasibility constraints, roadmap
s to product launch to senior management routine and integral part of this role.
STM POWER INC, ANN ARBOR, MI SEP 2004 - JAN 2005
(PROJECT CONSULTING/CONTRACTING)
Involved in design and development of engine components for a distributed power
generation application. Duties included structural design of components and asse
mblies to withstand the specified mechanical and thermal loads, identifying pote
ntial failure behavior of materials at elevated temperatures and providing cost-
effective engineering solutions to eliminate reliability problems, monitoring su
pplier quality for sourced parts/assemblies, performing tolerance analysis, manu
facturability issues and other activities involved in taking the product from co
ncept to production. Extensive use of 3D solid modeling, structural and thermal
FEA, and design calculations and principles based on basic engineering theory an
d design handbooks
FERMI NATIONAL ACCELERATOR LABORATORY, BATAVIA, IL JAN 200
2- JULY 2004
Project Engineer, Superconducting Magnet and RF Cavity Technology Development
Mechanical design and development of superconducting magnets and RF structures f
or future accelerator applications. Outlined conceptual designs and analyzed var
ious mechanical/magnetic designs. Involved in design of coil support structures
to bear electromagnetic forces and packaging/integrating other components into t
he magnet system such a heat shields, cryostats, development of tooling and fixt
uring for magnet and RF cavity fabrication. Involved in testing, certification,
and delivery of magnets and RF structures for installation in accelerator system
s. Extensive use of 3D solid modeling, structural, thermal and electromagnetic
FEA, design calculations and principles based on basic engineering theory. Invol
ved extensively in creating, interpreting and checking 2D detail drawings for ma
nufacturing.
EASI ENG/JOHNSON CONTROLS INC, PLYMOUTH, MI
JAN 1999-JAN 2002
Senior Engineer, New Product Development
Facilitated the product development of automotive seating structures, including
proposing conceptual designs and conducting feasibility studies. Created layout
s and drawings using 3D CAD tools (IDEAS, CATIA-V5), performing DFMEA, DVP&R, GD
&T, and PDFSS (Product Design for Six Sigma) studies. Additionally executed pro
totype building, testing and coordination with analysis and simulation group, ve
ndors, and customers. Coordinated activities for product launch.
FE Analysis
Performed analytical simulations of automotive crashes and provided guidelines t
o improve crashworthiness (using FEA tools such as DYNA-3D, HYPERMESH, EASi-CRAS
H, and ANSA, OASYS). Conducted reliability finite element analysis on automotiv
e subsystems, accounting for scatter present in geometric parameters due to manu
facturing tolerances. Executed head impact finite element analysis for "hit" lo
cations on various vehicle models. Constructed a finite element model of a cam
release mechanism using HYPERMESH and performed static analysis using NASTRAN.
