JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: FINANCE MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY:

To maintain financial systems that is accountable and transparent in accordance


with best practices and to ensure that monies are spent according to the
operating budget of the organisation as informed by the programme plans. You
will report to the Executive Director.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

Financial Management

• Ensure that Accounting Records of WONETHA are maintained in accordance


with Generally Accepted Accounting Practices
• Ensure that payments to creditors and debtors and third party payments are
effected
• Manage the organisation’s payroll, making statutory deductions and
submission of returns
• Oversee the maintenance of the organisation’s cash accounts, including
bank accounts
• Prepare monthly financial reports for the Executive Director, and prepare
financial records to trial balance level for audit purposes; this includes
balancing the cash book
• Produce monthly income statements in spread sheet format from trial balance
• Prepare funder reconciliation statements
• Support in preparing financial reports and provide donor maintenance as
required
• Analyse spending patterns in order to implement cost saving measures;
• Submit the monthly Department of Health reconcilliation together with certified
copies of expenditure
• Handle account/payment querres
• Prepare bank reconciliation statements
• Maintain debtor/creditor ledger accounts
• Assist Executive Director with fundraising and donor reporting

Staff Management

The Financial Manager may be responsible for supervision of staff, directly


and/or indirectly, including Accountant and/or Accounts Assistant and possible
others, as assigned by the Executive Director and/or Management Committee.

If staff supervision is part of this position, key performance areas include:

• Provide regular oversight and mentoring of staff


• Provide and/or make available training to staff as needed
• Provide regular feedback including at least annual performance evaluation
of staff
• Responsible for discipline and related matters as needed, in consultation
with designated Human Resources staff at WONETHA

SUPERVISION REQUIRED:

Will work independently but will be supervised, six-weekly, in terms of progress.


Will work as part of a team.

RISKS:

Due to the nature of the industry, the position can be emotionally demanding.
WONETHA will strive to make resources available to provide coverage for mental

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

At least 2 years financial bookkeeping experience and/or a finance qualification


in Business, for example a minimum qualification Diploma in Business
Administration
