Reading authentic Islamic books is no doubt one of the ways to healthy Islamic beliefs. While effective
reading of books should be one the obvious habits of a Muslim man or woman, it is very unfortunate
that many Muslims today do not develop their habit of reading as such.

The first revelation, verse or command to be revealed to this last Muslim Ummah is the command to
READ as established in chapter 96 verse 1 of the Holy Qur-’aan. Therefore, the habit of reading any
Islamically beneficial books or literature to the life of a Muslim should be one of the paramount habits
of a Muslim or Muslimah.

However, as far as healthy beliefs are concerned in Islaam, a developing Muslim should not just be
reading any book on Islaam. A Muslim should only source for books on Islaam from authentic places or
authors. The more a Muslim reads authentic books on Islaam, the more he or she correctly understand
the religion; and the more his or her understanding of the religion, the more the Muslim will be able to
practice the Deen correctly and effectively.

In fact, one the ways that leads a Muslim to Spiritual Dryness is too much concentration on intellectual
readings without or with very little concerns for spiritual readings (reading of authentic Islamic books).
Therefore, for a Muslim to understand his or her Deen very well leading to having healthy beliefs in his
or her Creator – Allaah (Subhaanahu Wata'aalaa), he or she needs to be reading authentic books on
Islaam regularly. That is, authentic religious book(s) should always be one of the companions of a
Muslim since reading should be one of his or her known habits.

Emphatically, better understanding of Islaam requires frequent search for correct knowledge of the
religion. One of the ways of achieving this is through frequent reading of authentic books on Islaam
with sincere intention to better understand the religion, follow the best practices and avoid being
misguided by many misguidance present in today’s Muslims world. With these, anytime a Muslim with
these attitudes is reading any book on Islaam, there is no iota of doubt that such a Muslim will also be
increasing his or her record of good deeds with Allaah (Subhaanahu Wata ‘aalaa).

In a nut shell, reading Islamic books frequently should be a great habit of a Muslim in developing his or
her Deen effectively. But not just any book on Islaam, however, he or she should always go for
authentic ones written by Muslims with correct understanding of the religion and avoid books written
by deviant people.
