Organizational Mission:
KIOS promotes the realisation of human rights in developing countries as they
are defined in the human rights treaties and instruments of the United Nations
and the Council of Europe and in other correspondent regional human rights
instruments.
To advance this mission KIOS funds human rights projects of developing
countries and is thus a direct channel of support to projects that promote the
realisation of human rights of the developing countries and human rights
knowledge of civil society actors.

Human Rights Program Mission


KIOS supports human rights projects of civil society organisations.
Typical projects funded by KIOS include:

ë Human rights campaigning, lobbying and advocacy


ë Human rights monitoring and documentation
ë Human rights awareness raising and education
ë Providing legal aid
ë Capacity building

KIOS aims at supporting projects that especially deal with the rights of the
most vulnerable groups, such as women, children, indigenous peoples,
people with disabilities, sexual and gender minorities, human rights defenders
and people living in extreme poverty.
For the strategic period 2011 - 2015 KIOS focuses its funding to the following
countries:

ë In Eastern Africa: Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya,


Rwanda and Uganda.
ë In South Asia: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Tibet.

KIOS holds an open invitation for applicants. Funding applications are


accepted throughout the year. 
     






Only one application per organisation will be considered at any one time.
The first KIOS grant can be for

We register only complete applications, and kindly ask you not to send any
concept papers.

Due to the large number of applications we can·t comment the possibility of


having a favourable outcome on your application.

KIOS accepts only applications submitted on KIOS Application Form. The


Application Form can be downloaded from here. The form can also be
obtained from the KIOS office via email at kios@kios.fi.

Application must be signed by a competent authority of the applicant


organisation.

Compulsory attachments to the application are:

ë Project Budget
ë Two Written References for the project
ë Applicant Organisation·s Annual Budget
ë Applicant Organisation·s Statutes or By-laws
ë Applicant Organisation·s Registration Certificate
ë Applicant Organisation·s Annual Report
ë Applicant Organisation·s Latest Audit Reports (from the two previous years)
ë For the two written references use KIOS reference form.
