Discuss a historical event in medicine and its impact on our healthcare system today

During the modern period society has had many accomplishments. Physicians and scientists beginning in the early 1600s founded many instruments and advances in medicinal use, diseases, and connections to germs. Many scientists in the modern period of medicine established great advances for our society today. The many instruments founded during the modern period included the microscope, the start of applying stitches, and the first report of Sanitary conditions on the Labouring Population (www.enotes.com) Antoni Van Leewenhoek developed a microscope, which helped to distinguish red blood cells, striated muscle fibers, and bacteria (www.enotes.com). Today the microscope has many different uses such as distinguishing DNA and determining cancer. Dr. Pare worked to improve surgery for soldiers injured during combat, by developing stitches although, the stitches were dirty and they became infected. The stitches soon became useful after sanitary conditions improved by the government becoming involved. Edwin Chadwick a civil worker for the government wrote about the Sanitary Conditions on the Labouring Population or the working class citizens in the rural communities (www.enotes.com). This helped to improve the United States sanitation. Today we have clean water, food to eat that isnt poisoned with salmonella, and even restaurants to go out to. William Harvey was the fascinated with blood flow through the body(www.sjsu.edu/depts/Museum/harvey.html) . He conducted experiments on dead bodies, cadavers, to determine what is now known as blood vessels and veins. Today, this can help with patients receiving kidney dialysis. Louis Pasteur proved that germs caused certain diseases, which was later proved by Koch that the germs were different bacteria that made up the diseases (www.enotes.com).

Today we can distinguish between the flu or a severe cold or a malignant tumors between nonmalignant tumors. Our society has many different medicines and advances thanks to all the past physicians who helped to make technology what it is. Now we can do ultrasounds for different types of stomach and chest organs, we have x-ray machines, and even chemotherapy to help with a patients cancer. We also many women doctors, nurses, and health officials, where back when modern medicine period began they had very few. Our healthcare unit is very adequate at sanitary conditions and keeping patients well and alive. There are many healthcare codes and laws to keep the sanitation code acceptable for our thriving community. Whenever we think of how healthy our environment is lets acknowledge the ones who made it that way
