Week of June 12-18

Welcome Welcome everyone into your home & be sure to make your guests feel special. Create an inclusive culture in your group. Opening Prayer Be sure to introduce any guest that might be attending. You might ask your Leader in Training (LIT) to open up your HG night in prayer. This is a great opportunity for them to get use to leading. You might also consider how your LITs can lead an upcoming HG. Send them the Weekly HG Guide & prep them on how to use it.

Become (Spiritual Disciplines, Care) // Pick at least one from each category to use in leading your group
Suggestions for Family Time A) Go outside & enjoy destroying a candy-filled piata! Be safe! After the game is over, talk about how a piata is like James 1:2-4. Trials are like the blows that the piata takes. But by Gods grace & love for us, these trials can lead to very good things. Example: God can use sickness in your family to bring the family closer to the Lord & to one another. B) Divide into groups (kids w/adults) & memorize the Core Comp creed for Joy: Being happy on the inside no matter whats happening on the outside. How can a Christian have joy (inner-happiness), even though things going on around them are not good? Suggestions for Kids Time A) Provide Play-Doh for the children & ask them to create something that they love to do. Let them present their objects & cheer for all! Talk about how they had to mash & press & squish & mold the Play-Doh to make something special. Sometimes difficult circumstances in our lives can be tough, but God uses those things to mold us to look more like Jesus. B) Let the children share prayer requests for friends or family members that are having a hard time. Then lead the children to pray for these loved ones, asking God to use these trials to make them more like Jesus. Suggestions for Adult Time A) In Philip Yanceys book Where Is God When It Hurts?, he discusses the blessing of pain. How much worse would our lives be if our bodies did not feel pain? What if we didnt feel the splinter in our foot? What if we didnt feel the pain of appendicitis? What if we never felt the burn from touching something hot? How is pain actually a blessing from God? What about financial pain, relational pain & spiritual pain? How can these be blessings from God? B) The symptoms & the illness are not the same thing. The illness existed long before the symptoms. Rather than being the illness, the symptoms are the beginning of its cures. The fact that they are unwanted makes them all the more a phenomenon of gracea gift of God, a message from the unconscious, if you will, to initiate self-examination & repair. M. Scott Peck, The Road Less Traveled. Ask your group to share stories of how God used pain in their lives to help them grow. C) Read Hebrews 12:2-3. How could Jesus have joy even though He knew He was going to suffer so greatly on the cross? Suggestions for Prayer Time A) Lift up those who are suffering in your HG, asking God to give them joy in their circumstances. B) Pray that Gods Word would give hope, perspective, direction & joy to each of us as we face the trials of life.
