Rapid Innovation for the Service-Oriented Enterprise

A joint collaboration between

Rain. RApid INnovation is a dynamic, open environment dedicated to helping clients discover, develop and deliver sustainable new business models using collaboration and innovation to build their Service-Oriented Enterprise. Capgemini and Intel are committed to helping Rain clients transform the way they do business to become faster, flexible and more responsive.

Welcome to the end of business as usual.

04

Welcome to Rain

Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a new approach for organizing and isolating application functionality, built on a flexible and reusable foundation of services. It has the capacity to expand the reach of the enterprise by enabling services to define and transform relationships and, in so doing, expand the scope of what Information Technology (IT) can make possible. In short, SOA means the end of business as usual.

However, it can only be achieved if leaders possess the knowledge, the imagination and the roadmap to make optimal use of it. Services are not drivers of business change. The transformations promised by service orientation will not happen without the adoption of a new culture and innovative business models. Collaboration and a willingness to establish your organization as open for business are the keys to success with SOA. In recognition, Capgemini, one of the worlds foremost providers of consulting, technology, and outsourcing services, and Intel, the world leader in technology platform and silicon innovation, have combined their intellectual powers to create the Rain environment. Short for RApid INnovation, Rain is a series of global, service-oriented environments uniquely designed to help organizations envision and embrace the future. Its goal is to help companies unleash business value from the constraints of traditional IT, transforming the business model for customers, employees and shareholders.

05

Welcome to the End of Business as Usual To compete in the global intelligent economy, enterprises must make a fundamental shift to a future built on innovative service-oriented business processes and new approaches around the use of technology.
Rapid Innovation for the Service-Oriented Enterprise

Rain provides comprehensive, rapid, sometimes radical, and continuous service-oriented solutions to help organizations become Service-Oriented Enterprises.
Rain is a physical and virtual experience that supports the building of ServiceOriented Enterprise (SOE) innovations globally by leveraging current and future waves of technology developments. It models future scenarios by industry sector and focuses on areas of transformation that will make the most impact on businesses in the short and medium term. Rain helps clients find their own answers to such key questions as: How can the energy and ideas of outsiders be harnessed to help clients businesses? How can companies bring their customers closer to their core business process? How can their relationships with suppliers be strengthened? How can IT support employee innovation instead of holding it back? How can businesses best structure their IT resources to reflect the needs and new capabilities of SOA? By becoming an SOE, your business can reorganize and execute to become faster and more responsive to changes in the marketplace. Above all, service orientation focuses on the business imperative and offers opportunities to approach business issues in a different way. Intel technologies and platforms provide this basis end-to-end infrastructure for SOE. In this context, SOA provides orchestration: automated assistance to set up and coordinate all of the interactions required by highly integrated business systems. The SOE infrastructure is based on industry-standard hardware and software building blocks, and delivered as complementary, interoperable services interacting via standard web protocols. In this context, service not only spans entire enterprises, but also integrates multiple business units within the enterprise and across to external partners and customers.

06

Rain helps organizations re-define their IT as a service through the radical development and adoption of new technologies and business services, enabled by Intel platforms. In collaboration with Capgeminis Accelerated Solutions Environment (ASE), Rain facilitates the end of business as usual through a three-step process: Discover, Develop and Deliver.

The Rain methodology

The culture that meshes best with SOA is one of empowerment and flexibility. For SOA to achieve its potential, many assumptions that have ruled business and IT must be abandoned. The Rain collaborative environment is designed to help organizations foster just that kind of culture. It can provide companies with the complete picture from infrastructure (SOI) to application services (SOA), to business processing (SOE).

07

Discover

The SOE journey starts with a detailed analysis of the competition, the clients distinctive IT operations and recent technology and industry trends. This will accelerate the convergence of business and technology challenges to create the solution roadmap.

Develop

Rain uses the latest SOA/SOI methodologies across various reference architectures to expedite custom development of software and hardware platforms, conforming to your unique SOE vision.

Deliver

Rain leverages pre-built vertical solutions and starter kits with fast prototyping capability to quicken the SOE implementation. The wave of business transformation starts here.

At the end of this process, organizations will have a clear roadmap to becoming a Service-Oriented Enterprise. Companies that seek to make many of their core business processes plug and play, have the ability to turn raw data into real-time intelligence, and to prioritize seamless integration between suppliers, customers, and employees.

08

Rain Deliverables Customized roadmap from business process assessment to service analysis and development to infrastructure migration. Launch strategy for executives to get internal organizational alignment. Live demos and proof-of-concepts for rapid, customized prototype development. Reliable reference architecture for clients to deploy SOE solutions using industry standards in both software and hardware technology. Real-time, continuous access to all deliverables via innovative collaboration tools.
