Cutting:
Fabric A: Cut the panel to measure 20-1/2" x 23-1/2" Fabric B: Cut four 2" x 23-1/2" strips. Fabric C: Cut four 1-1/2" x 23-1/2" strips, four 1-1/2" x 26-1/2" strips, five 1" x width of fabric (WOF) strips, sixty-four 1-1/2" squares and four 1" X 2-1/2" strips. Fabric D: Cut four 1-1/2" x WOF strips. Fabric E: Cut thirty-two 2-1/2" squares. Fabric F: Cut two 2-1/2" x 34-1/2" strips and two 2-1/2" x 35-1/2" strips. Fabric G: Cut two 4-1/2" x 38-1/2" strips from the width of fabric. Fabric H: Cut two 4-1/2" x 35-1/2" strips from the length of fabric. Fabric I: Cut six 2" x WOF strips. Piece them together into four 2" x 46-1/2" strips. Cut five 2-1/4" x WOF strips and piece them together for the binding. Backing: Piece the fabric into one 54" x 58" piece for backing.

Directions:
1) Sew one 2" x 23-1/2" Fabric B strip to each side of the panel. Sew one 2" x 23-1/2" strip to the top and bottom of the panel. 2) To make the train tracks, sew one 1" Fabric C strip to one 1-1/2" Fabric D strip lengthwise. Repeat with the remaining 1" Fabric C strips and 1-1/2" Fabric D strips. 3) Cut the strip sets into sixty-four 2-1/2" pieces (fig.1). 4) Sew seventeen 2-1/2" pieces together lengthwise. Sew one 1" x 2-1/2" Fabric C strip to the bottom to complete inside of the side train track border. Sew one 1-1/2" x 26-1/2" Fabric C strip to each side of the tracks to complete on side border. 5) Repeat to make the second side tracks border. Sew the track borders to each side of the center panel. 6) Repeat Step 4 with fifteen 2-1/2 pieces from Step 3 to make each of the top and bottom borders. Set them aside. 7) To make the Corner Blocks, Place one 1-1/2" Fabric C square on the upper right corner of one 2-1/2" Fabric E square, right sides together. Sew across the diagonal from the upper left to lower right corner (fig. 2). Flip the triangle formed open and press. Trim the excess fabric from the back leaving 1/4" seam allowance. Repeat with lower left corner and another 1-1/2" Fabric C square to make one corner unit (fig 3). 8) Repeat Step 7 to make thirty-two corner units. Take four corner units and sew them together to make one corner square (fig. 4). Make eight corner squares total. 9) Sew one corner square to each end of the top and bottom track borders. Sew the borders to the center panel to make the quilt top. 10) Sew one 2-1/2" x 34-1/2" Fabric F strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew one 2-1/2" x 35-1/2" Fabric F strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top. 11) Sew one 4-1/2" x 38-1/2" Fabric G strip to each side of the quilt top. 12) Sew one corner square to each end of the two 4-1/2" x 35-1/2" Fabric H strips. Sew the strips to the top and bottom of the quilt top. 13) Sew one 2" x 46-1/2" Fabric I strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew one 2" x 46-1/2" Fabric I strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top. 14) Layer, quilt and bind as desired.
