arry and Shelley Jaffe are the proprietors of the newly relocated/expanded Gillhams Naturals, and Green, the Organic Food and Wine Bar. Located at 422 Cleveland St. in downtown Clearwater (with free parking in the back, off of Laura St.), Green is just a short walk from the Fort Harrison hotel and the further north hotels on Osceola. Green serves organic comfort food and the menu changes daily. I ate there twice during a recent trip and was quite impressed with the service, flavors and quality of the food. The chefs really know their stuff and the freshness of their made-from-scratch sauces and dressings really shines. My first meal was a mild curried vegatable plate on a bed of quinoasimply delightful! It came with a side salad and house vinaigrette, which was unlike any Ive had before and featured freshly blended herbs. For my second dining experience, I sat at the counter and watched the chef do his magic. There was an organic Surf and Turf on the menu but being kind of late for beef (no matter how good), I asked for all Surf and it arrived in the form of seven succulent scallops matched with grilled quartered mushroom caps. A side salad also came and I requested the house Ranch dressinganother unique blend. If only there was a place like Green here in L.A.... Open M-F for lunch and dinner; Saturday brunch. ve been a fan of Tracy Newman and the Reinforcements since Harriet Schock introduced me to them a few years back. Her first album, A Place in the Sun, is filled with unforgettable gems, all penned by Tracy, whose lyrics and music are as natural as they come. Tracy is an Emmy-winning television writer who left the business to devote herself to her first love, songwriting. Fast forward to this Coffee Gallery Backstage show where Tracy opened for her brother, Dutch Newman and the New Melodians (a 1930s style revue which is the subject of a separate review). Her set was filled with a few tracks from the above album but mostly newer material. What I love about Tracys material are the stories in her songs. Theres the double-edged viewpoint of a motherdaughter releationship in Its All Coming Back to Me Now; the brilliant story of the waitress who serves Merle Haggard in Table Nine; true love comes to the rescue in I Just See You; and the positive outlook in Songs of Hope. The acoustic band consists of Tracy on guitar and lead vocals, Gene Lippman on guitar and vocals, Rebecca Leigh on vocals, John OKennedy on mandolin and dobro, John Cartwright on bass and Doug Knoll on drums/percussion. he history of April Fools Day or All Fools Day is uncertain, but the current thinking is that it began around 1582 in France with the reform of the calendar under Charles IX. The Gregorian Calendar was introduced, and New Years Day was moved from March 25April 1 (new years week) to January 1. Communication traveled slowly in those days and some people were only informed of the change several years later. Still others, who were more rebellious refused to acknowledge the change and continued to celebrate on the last day of the former celebration, April 1. These people were labeled fools by the general populace, were subject to ridicule and sent on fool errands, sent invitations to nonexistent parties and had other practical jokes played upon them. The butts of these pranks became known as a poisson davril or April fish because a young nave fish is easily caught. In addition, one common practice was to hook a paper fish on the back of someone as a joke. This harassment evolved over time and a custom of prank-playing continued on the first day of April. This tradition eventually spread elsewhere, like to Britain and Scotland in the 18th century, and was introduced to the American colonies by the English and the French. Because of this spread to other countries, April Fools Day has taken on an international flavor with each country celebrating the holiday in its own way!

anniversary March 13, 2011, marked the 100thman, author of the birth of a truly amazing and humanitarian, L. Ron Hubbard. I was fortunate to be in Clearwater, Florida, for a special event in celebration of this milestone, and what was presented was a most fitting tribute. Mr. Hubbard lived a life well beyond the single path typical of the average man.
