Ardrox 2480

Heavy duty immersion paint remover

Scope
ARDROX 2480 is an acid activated paint remover containing chlorinated solvents. It is free from phenolic and cresylic materials. The product as supplied contains a wax seal to retard evaporation losses. ARDROX 2480 is intended for the removal of paints and organic coatings which are resistant to the more usual cold immersion processes. Examples of organic schemes, which are removed by ARDROX 2480, are: stoved acrylics and epoxies, fused powder type epoxies and nylon. It is also useful for removing multi-coat systems which occur on painting jigs. ARDROX 2480 is used for in-line paint stripping of jigs in automated paint spraying processes. The complete removal of overspray ensures the good contact required to give a perfect finish by electrostatic spraying.

Method of use
ARDROX 2480 is used as a soak process at ambient temperature. For most paints, removal is usually very fast taking only a few minutes. Multi-coat systems on jigs, however, may require several hours. The loosened paint should be rinsed off using an air/water gun or high pressure water rig. For advice concerning application equipment contact your local Chemetall Aerospace Technologies Representative. The parts may then be dried or alternatively, where further processing will not take place immediately and some corrosion protection is desired, a dewatering fluid such as ARDROX 3961 or 3962 should be used. Water contamination of ARDROX 2480 must be avoided. immersed in ARDROX 2480. Components must be dry before being

Tanks of ARDROX 2480 should be sited well away from rinse water tanks. Suitable screens should be used, to prevent water splashing into ARDROX 2480. ARDROX 2480 must be used under conditions of adequate ventilation. recommended. Fume extraction is

As ARDROX 2480 has a wax seal incorporated it is necessary to use the whole contents of a container in order to maintain the correct balance of seal to solvent.

Method of control
A separate Method of Control sheet is available which describes the procedures required to maintain optimum performance from ARDROX 2480.

Effects on materials
ARDROX 2480 has little effect on mild steel or aluminium provided that water contamination is avoided. Rinses should therefore be kept from splashing into the bath and if components require re-treating they must be dry before returning to the bath. ARDROX 2480 should not be used on magnesium, cadmium or zinc. It will exert a destructive effect on most plastics and rubbers.

Technical information
Appearance: Density: Flash Point: Brown, mobile liquid. 1.26 g/ml at 20C. None.

These are typical values only and do not constitute a specification.

Equipment materials
Stainless steel is recommended for the construction of tanks, which should be made with the minimum surface area of exposed liquid, to prevent excessive solvent evaporation. Alternatively polythene lined mild steel may be used for the construction of tanks. Aluminium is not a suitable material for tank construction.

Safety guidance
Before operating the process described it is important that this complete document, together with any relevant Safety Data sheets, be read and understood.
