RTC Meeting 13 June 2011- Comments Ladies and Gentlemen. Tonights meeting is an important meeting for Republicans.

It is one step in a process, but an important step. I believe you should consider several facts in reaching your decision to make a choice of moving my nomination for the Mayoral election in November. First, I believe you should consider just what qualifies a person to be part of the Republican Party in Ledyard Ct in 2011. 1. What has been their history of service to our Town of Ledyard. 2. Are they fair, open minded, and demonstrate a practice of the democratic process in their life and government service. 3. Are they a practicing fiscally responsible person in their service to our Town of Ledyard. 4. Do they work for, and represent, the overall good of all our Town of Ledyard residents. Examination of my record in all aspects noted above, I believe supports that I am worthy of continuing the generations with which my family has served both the Republicans and the Town of Ledyard. My community service began with my return from the US Army in 1966. I have had no break in service since then. In 2007 a Republican candidate for the office of Mayor was needed. Despite efforts to secure a candidate, no one stepped forward. I finally did so, not because I needed a job but because my town needed the availability of a positive choice. I worked very hard to support the Republican team in that campaign. Matching my work ethic and the results achieved will validate this Administrations value to Ledyard! I have exercised fiscal restraint as evidenced by the approved budgets of my first 3 years having been underspent by over $1.9 million. This was despite of decreasing General Government budgets. I am a fiscal conservative but not a fiscal extremist.

I sought a 1/3 mil increase in the tax rate last year to cover the cost of refinancing the one year $5 million debt. The refinancing was completed but the cost was charged to General Government operating (to the detriment of resident services). The refinancing cost was truly an investment and should have been treated as such. The refinancing resulted in a reduced budget line item in the 11-12 budget of over $100,000 and savings will continue into the future. While many of you probably do not read the Norwich Bulletin, the Sunday column by Political and Editorial Page Editor Ray Hackett makes an interesting statement! A reader posted that GOP candidates should have to meet the minimum criteria of believing in basic Republican principles. Editor Hackett replied Thats probably why there are no Republicans holding any federal or statewide elected positions in Connecticut. Unaffiliated voters, who decide elections, dont share that belief. Choices in 2011 will determine whether the office of Mayor remains in Republican hands. My survival during the challenges of the past 3 years, and the accomplishments achieved by my staff and I, warrant your support. The challenges I have identified on a separate paper, will be best addressed by continuing to allow me to serve our Town of Ledyard as Mayor. Residents I listen to, and their actions I observe clearly reflect support by most. I ask you to support my nomination as the Republican candidate for Mayor in the November election! Respectfully, Fred Allyn, Jr.
