The test for whether or not you are discriminated in society should not be judged by the arrangement of your chromosomes. Women, for thousands and thousands of years have been servants of the household, and have not been seen equal in the eyes of the law; nor in our hearts. Many of us choose to neglect and ignore the gender discrimination act 1984 that prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender, pregnancy and marital status. When a boy is born in most developing countries, friends and relatives exclaim congratulations. A son means insurance, as he will inherit his fathers property and get a job to help support the family. However, when a girl is born, the reaction is very different. women weep when they find out their baby is a girl because, to them, a daughter is just another expense because her place is in the home, not in the world of men. In some parts of India, its traditional to greet a family with a newborn girl by saying, The servant of your household has been born. Her identity is forged as soon as her family and society limit her opportunities and declare her to be second-rate. A combination of extreme poverty and deep biases against women creates a remorseless cycle of discrimination that keeps girls in developing countries from living up to their full potential-leaving them vulnerable to severe physical and emotional abuse. These servants of household come to accept that life will never be any different. Not only are women declared to be second rate; but they are seen as an economic predicament in many communities. Its a regular practice in those communities to breastfeed a girl for a shorter time than boys so that women can try to get pregnant again with a boy as soon as possible. As a result, this widespread neglect stunts their growth, development and weakens their resistance to diseases. Sex-selective abortions are growing ever more frequent as technology makes it simple and cheap to determine a fetus gender. In Jaipur, a Western Indian city of 2 million people, 3500 sex-determined abortions are carried our every year. The gender ratio across India has dropped to an unnatural low of 927 females to 1,000 males. Without women, how is our society going to ...Lalala continue. SOMEONE WRITE SOMETHING ABOUT HOW FEMALE ARE DISEMPOWERED/ whatever IN THE text weve studied: KITE RUNNER / whatever/HIROSHIMAAAA =
The female gender is represented as vulnerable, single mother, with limited resources with which to care for her children; etc..

Does anyone find this scene familiar? Youre sitting down in front of the television with chips and popcorn in your hand; while you get irritated as your mum constantly paces back and forth with the vacuum, disrupting your exclusive and private time while you intensely watch the final episode of supernatural for the season. The thought of helping your mum finish the list of housework jumps straight out of your mind; as you look to the left and see your father casually

reading the newspaper, oblivious to the sound of the life-sucking vacuum and seem as if hes got housework amnesia. Women have always been stereotyped: whether it has been in the past or present; society expects them to adopt, believe in and fulfil the specific gender role: which is to be a feminine, clean, typical housewife. Various forms of mass media such as TV shows (Desperate housewifes, Modern Family); movies (Maid in Manhattan), magazines (housekeeping magazine targeted to women), Ads, and various advertisements that sell and show women happily doing housework. Before women achieved womens rights, women werent educated, didnt have as much opportunities in life, seen as being inferior to males and just another expense, and werent able to generate as much money for families. However, there are still lots of similar common attitudes for women in the past as well as women today; and our generation must try and strive to rid the injustice of the stereotypical housewife figure and discrimination towards women in our 21st century society. So guys, its your turn to man up and stop being slugs. I think I should edit the last sentence as well :l
