2.2 Using the Ride Wall Function

2.2.1 Overview of the Ride Wall Function
The ride wall function is used as a simple way to realize the traversal between the public network and the private network. By connecting the MCU to different networks through

2-26

Huawei Proprietary and Confidential Copyright Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd

Issue 01 (2009-08-31)

ViewPoint 8650 MCU User Guide

2 Using the 8650 MCU

different network interfaces, terminals in different networks can join the same conference. Figure 2-2 shows the networking diagram in ride wall mode. Figure 2-2 Networking diagram in ride wall mode

The advantages of the ride wall function are as follows:

Using of proprietary protocols is not required. Thus, terminals of different vendors can be used together. The settings of the original firewall in the network do not need to be changed. For example, opening of ports is not required. The dedicated devices for the traversal between the public network and the private network are not required.

The disadvantages of the ride wall function are as follows:

Only the networking of terminals in up to two networks is supported. The network where the SwitchCentre resides can be connected only through the GE0 port. The GE1 port can be used to perform IP address calling only. The terminals in the network connected through the GE1 port do not support the SiteCall function. The sites joining the conference through the GE1 port do not support switchover. Point-to-point calls cannot be performed between a terminal in the private network and a terminal in the public network through the MCU. Data received and transmitted through the GE1 port should use the designated IP route that is configurable.

Interface between the Portal and the MediaX3600 Interface between the MediaX3600 and the MRFC Interface between the MRFC and the MCU Interface between the MRFC and the MCU

Based on the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), the Portal controls conferences through the SOAP interface of the MediaX3600. Through the Mr/Sr interface, the MRFC parses the SIP resource control commands from the MediaX3600 and converts them to MCU control commands. The call management between the MRFC and the MCU is based on the SIP protocol. The MRFC connects the calls from users to the MCU through the SIP interface. For example, the conference joining and exiting of users are both managed through the SIP interface. The site control between the MRFC and the MCU is based on the TCP protocol. The MRFC delivers conference control commands to the MCU through conference IDs and user control commands to the MCU through port IDs.

2.4.3 Configuring an MCU

When deploying an MCU on the Huawei IMS core network, you need to configure the settings in the MRFC, such as the addresses of the two main control boards of the MCU, TCP connection port, authentication password, and MCU alias. For details, see the User Guide provided with the related devices. This section takes the 8650 MCU as an example and describes how to configure the SIP connection parameters on the MCU. To configure the SIP connection parameters on the MCU, do as follows: Step 1 Choose Start > Run. In Open of the Run dialog box, enter Telnet + space + IP address of the GE0 interface on the 8650 MCU, for example, Telnet 10.14.3.14, and then press Enter. Step 2 After the login prompt, enter user, and then press Enter. After the password prompt, enter user, and then press Enter. Step 3 After the <MCU8650> prompt, enter system-view, and then press Enter. Use the sip-config command to set SIP connection parameters. Set sip enable to 1, SIP reregister interval to 10, SIP refresh interval to 20, sip local port to the connection port of the MCU in the MRFC, MCU name to the alias of the MCU, and register sip password to the authentication password of the MCU.
The setting of MCU name must be the same as that configured on the IMS network.

Step 4 Use the sip-server command to set SIP server parameters. Set sip server enable to 1, sip server ip address to the IP address of the MRFC, and sip server port to the SIP port of the MRFC. Step 5 Use the bnrm command to set service system parameters. Set bnrm password to the authentication password of the service system on the IMS network and bnrm local-listeningport to the listening port of the service system on the IMS network.

The RM, SwitchCentre, and SwitchManager described in this chapter are the components of the Service Management Center (SMC). On the SMC toolbar, Conference Management corresponds to the RM page and Node Management corresponds to the SwitchManager page. About how to display the RM page and the SwitchManager page on the SMC will not be described any more in the following step description.

The description in this chapter is not applicable if the MCU accesses to an IMS network and manages conferences through the Portal provided by the IMS network. Unless otherwise specified, the SwitchCentre (hereinafter referred to as the SC) refers to the network control system, including the SwitchManager (hereinafter referred to as the SM) and the SC. The SM is the management console of the SC. The SC and the GK described in this document refer to the same software SC.

This chapter describes the configuration process of a simple conference held on the RM of the 8650 MCU (taking the 8650 MCU as an example) to introduce certain parameters that need to be configured and the operation process when the 8650 MCU works with the RM and the SC. After reading this chapter, you will be familiar with how to hold a simple conference by using the 8650 MCU, the RM, and the SC together with the terminal. A simple conference is a conference wherein:

All the sites access the same MCU in the same mode. All the sites are in the same service area so that their service codes are consistent. Third-party authentication, billing, and number distribution systems are not required. The conference should not connect to the TopResourceManager.

4.6 Maintenance Instructions

The 8650 MCU runs as a hierarchical control system. This architecture increases the system reliability greatly. In different operating environments, the stability of the equipment, however, depends on the effective routine maintenance. The purposes of the routine maintenance are to adopt preventive measures to avoid potential risks and to detect and rectify the faults in time.

Normal Maintenance
Normal maintenance refers to observation, test, and analysis of the performance and running status of the equipment with normal methods.

Special Maintenance
Special maintenance refers to the maintenance through certain designed situations to test whether the system is degrading or aging. For example, to prevent failures in the warning system, you can design certain faults to check whether the warning system can submit alarms properly.

Classifications By Period
By period, the maintenance can be classified into:

Unexpected maintenance Unexpected maintenance refers to the maintenance caused by equipment failure or network adjustment. For example, the equipment is damaged or the capacity of the equipment needs to be expanded. Meanwhile, to identify and record problems in routine maintenance is also one service source of the unexpected maintenance.

Daily routine maintenance Daily routine maintenance refers to the maintenance performed daily. This type of maintenance can help you to understand the running status of the equipment and enable you to solve the problems in time. Record the faults detected during the daily routine maintenance, which includes the physical position and detailed description of the faults to solve the problem in time and to exclude the potential risks.

4.7 Operation Guide

The major role of the routine maintenance is to instruct the maintenance personnel what to do, how to do, and what will be the possible result. 4.7.3 Removing the Dust from the Fan Frame

The main function of the fan frame is to provide power for the ventilation of the service subrack. During the running of the device, the dust in the air is adsorbed on the fan blades of the fan frame and the control circuit board. When the dust is accumulated to a certain amount, it affects the running of the fan frame and becomes pollution source of the service subrack. Thus, the stable running of the device is threatened potentially. To ensure the stable running of the device, the maintenance personnel should remove the dust from every fan frame periodically (once a year). You can remove the dust as follows. Remove the dust from the blades of the fan frame and the control circuit board using a clean cotton gauze, anti-static mild brush, and vacuum cleaner. After you remove the dust from the fan frame, the fan frame should be dustless. To remove the dust from the fan frame of the 8650 MCU, perform the following steps: Step 1 Loosen one captive screw the fan frame anticlockwise using a flathead screwdriver. Step 2 Use one hand to hold the handle at the front end of the fan frame and the other hand to hold the bottom of the fan frame. Pull the fan frame out of the cabinet partially and lightly. Step 3 Wait until the fan frame stops running and pull out the fan frame. Step 4 Insert the standby fan frame into the slot. ----End Remove the dust from the blades of the removed fan frame and the control circuit board using a clean cotton gauze, anti-static mild brush, and vacuum cleaner. After you remove the dust from the fan frame, the fan frame is used as the standby fan frame.

4.7.4 Removing Dust from the Board

You should take anti-static measures during the operation process. For example, if operating on an anti-static platform, the maintenance personnel should wear anti-static clothes or an anti-static wrist strap. The detergent applied should be complied with the corresponding standard. Otherwise, the detergent will cause unexpected damage to the board. You should add an air filter cover to the board when removing dust from board connectors to prevent the dust from going inside the connectors.

During the running of the device, the charged particles and dust in the air are adsorbed unavoidably on the board due to the electrification of the board and the air convection during the device dissipation. If the air cleanness is bad and the relative humidity is low, this adsorbing process becomes stronger. When the dust is accumulated to a certain amount, the dissipation efficiency and the electrical insulation of the board will be affected. Thus, the stable running of the device is threatened potentially.

Issue 01 (2009-08-31)

ViewPoint 8650 MCU User Guide

4 Maintenance Guide

To ensure the stable running of the device, the maintenance personnel should remove the dust from the boards in the cabinet periodically (twice a year). To remove the dust from the board, perform the following steps: Step 1 Prepare a standby board. When you decide to remove the dust from the boards in a service subrack, you should prepare standby boards for each type of boards in the subrack first. Step 2 Replace the board that needs dust removal with the standby board. To reduce the maintenance risk, you should replace the board that needs dust removal with the standby board according to the process of the replacement. When the new board runs normally, you can perform the next operation on the board that needs dust removal. ----End There are many ways to remove the dust from the board. The main principle is that the physical feature and the electrical feature of the board should not be damaged. Two common ways are described as follows:

Use the vacuum cleaner. Remove the dust on the board lightly using a clean and dry anti-static mild brush and place the nozzle of the vacuum cleaner to the brush to absorb dust while the brush moves. The way of using the vacuum cleaner is easy to operate and the cost is low. The disadvantage is that you can not remove the dust thoroughly. The harmful gas attached on the surface of the board cannot be removed.

Use the detergent Use the detergent for the circuit board that is anhydrous, non-corrosive, nonconductive, and high-volatile to remove the dust from the board, such as the IPA. The way of using the detergent can remove the dust thoroughly and most of the harmful gas attached on the surface of the board. The disadvantage is that the operation is comparatively complicated and that the cost is high.

Due to the restriction of the number of the standby boards, you cannot replace all the boards that need dust-removing with the standby boards. You can replace the board that that needs dust removal with the board that has finished dust removing for the safety of the maintenance.

4.7.5 Removing the Dust from the Optical Interface and Tail Fiber Connector
After the device runs for a period of time, you need to remove the dust from the optical interface and tail fiber connector.

The laser transmitted by the laser device on the optical interface board is invisible infrared. Do not look directly into the laser. Otherwise, the laser may injure the eyes permanently. When operating with the optical connectors of the tail fiber and optical interface board, you are suggested to wear protective glasses to filter the infrared and to prevent the injury to the eyes by the invisible infrared during the operation process. If you are not wearing protective

4 Maintenance Guide

ViewPoint 8650 MCU User Guide

glasses, you should not look directly into the laser transmitting port on the optical interface board and the optical fiber connector. If the optical connector on the board or the tail fiber is not used, ensure that it is covered by the protective cap. If the optical connector is in use, when removing the tail fiber from the connector, you should use the protective cap to cover the optical interface and the tail fiber connector connected to the optical interface. The preceding operations have the following functions:

Preventing the injury to the human eyes caused by the invisible laser sent by the laser device. The dust-proof function to avoid the increased loss of the optical interface and the tail fiber connector caused by the dust.

Do not use tools or materials that are not proved to be suitable for the cleaning of the optical connector and the optical interface of the laser device on the optical interface board. Unqualified tools and materials for cleaning the optical connector and the optical interface can damage the optical interface and the optical connector. To clean the optical interface and the tail fiber connector, perform the following steps: Step 1 Pull out the optical interface board. Before cleaning the optical interface on the optical interface board, you should pull out the optical fiber connected to the board first. Then, pull out the optical interface board. It is recommended that this operation should be guided by the engineers from Global Technical Service Department of Huawei to avoid the damage to the interface board caused by the improper operations. Step 2 Clean the interface and the connector using special tools and materials. To clean the optical interface of the laser device on the optical interface board and the optical connector, you should use special cleaning tools and materials. You can buy these tools and materials from the manufactures of the optical fiber or optical cable. For high-power laser interface, you should clean the interface using cleaning tools and materials. For low-power laser interface, if special cleaning tools and materials are not available, you can use anti-static brush that is clean, dry, and mild to clean the laser interface and to remove the dust. ----End

4.7.6 Daily Environmental Monitoring

The purpose of this maintenance operation is to check the status of the system working environment and know the parameters in time to exclude potential risks. The daily environmental monitoring can guarantee that the system is working in a secure environment and reduce the failure rate of the equipment to prolong the life cycle the equipment. For maintenance operation guide of the daily environment monitoring, see Table 4-2.

5 Troubleshooting

5.1.2 Common Troubleshooting Methods

This section describes some of the commonly used methods for determining and identifying problems.

Analysis of Original Information

Original information refers to the sum of failure information collected from the following sources: Users' failure complaint Failure notifications of other sites and offices Failure detected during the maintenance Information collected by the maintenance personnel during the early phase of the failure The original information is an import material for fault diagnosis and analysis. Original information analysis determines the scope and type of a fault. In the early stage of fault processing, this activity can help to reduce the scope of fault and preliminarily identify the fault. If you have ample experience in maintenance, you can identify the faults directly.

Analysis of Warning Information

Warning information refers to the information generated by the warning system. The analysis of the warning information is used for identifying the actual reason or the cause of the fault. You can identify the causes of the fault directly by using this method or by combining the other methods. It is preferred to use the warning information to identify the cause of the fault.

Analysis of Indicator Status

On each board of the 8650 MCU there are corresponding indicators that indicates the different running status of the system. Certain boards have functional indicators or feature indicators. In addition to indicating the running status of the corresponding board, most of the indicators can indicate the running status of the circuit, the link, the optical path, the nodes, and the active or standby board. This activity is an important criterion for analyzing and identifying the fault. The analysis of the indicator status is mainly for quickly locating the position and the cause of the fault. This can provide clews for the fault processing. The information provided by this activity is, however, inadequate; therefore, you need to use the analysis of warning information together with this activity.

Test/Loopback
Test refers to the measurement of the related technical parameters of the potential failure parts through apparatus, meters, or software test tools, such as the test of the subscriber line or the transmission channel. According to the result of the measurement, you can check whether the equipment has failed or is on the verge of failure. Loopback refers to the method of using a hardware or software to test whether a transmission device or a transmission channel can return a transmitted signal to its source (the process is also called self-loop). You can use the loopback to determine whether the transmission device or the transmission channel is working normally considering the service status, the signaling cooperation, and others.

5 Troubleshooting

ViewPoint 8650 MCU User Guide

Comparison/Interchange
Comparison refers to the comparative analysis between the failed parts and the normal parts. You can use this activity to figure out the differences between them to identify the problem. This activity is applicable for a simplex scope of faults. Interchange refers to the situation when the scope or the position of the fault continues to be undetected even after the same operation is performed on the standby parts. Interchange the parts (such as the board, or the optical fiber) in normal state with the potential failure parts, and then compare the variations of their running status to identify the scope and the position of the faults. This activity is applicable for a complex scope of faults.

Switching/Reset
Switching refers to the manual switchover operation performed on the switching equipment in the active/standby mode. In other words, all services on the active equipment are transferred to the standby equipment. You can compare the running status of the switched systems to determine whether the relation between the active equipment and the standby equipment is normal or coordinated. Reset refers to the manual reboot of certain parts or all the parts of the switching equipment. You can use this activity to analyze the bug of the software. For example, whether the software is running improperly, or whether the programs are in deadlock. This activity is an extreme operation normally performed under certain inevitable situations. Compared with other methods, switching and reset cannot identify the cause of the faults accurately. Because of the randomness of the software running, the faults occurred after the switching or reset is normally hard to re-occur in a short period, which covers the real cause of the faults and brings potential risks to the security and stability of the equipment. Thus, these two activities are the measures that are adopted in case of temporary emergencies under certain inevitable situations. Adopt the preceding measures with caution.

Apparatus/Meter-Aided Analysis
Apparatus or meters are commonly used to analyze and identify problems. Apparatus/Meteraided analysis can directly reflect the essence of the faults through direct and quantitative data. This activity is widely used in waveform analysis and line error detection.

A Safety Precautions

ViewPoint 8650 MCU User Guide

Do not damage grounding conductors or operate the equipment when grounding conductor is not installed. Connect the equipment to the protection ground permanently. Before the operation, check the electrical connection of the equipment and ensure that the equipment is grounded correctly.

Personnel Safety

To prevent electric shock, do not connect safety extra-low voltage (SELV) circuits to telephone-network voltage (TNV) circuits. Do not stare at optical fiber outlet directly with naked eyes, or the laser may damage your eyes. Before the operation, wear the antistatic uniform, wrist straps, and gloves, and remove conductive objects such as ornaments and watch to prevent electric shock or burn.

Equipment Security

Before the operation, the equipment must be fixed securely on the floor or walls and mounting racks. Do not block ventilation during system running.

Use a tool to fasten the screws when installing the panel.

Wear antistatic wrist straps and gloves when inserting the boards. Do not apply excessive force when inserting boards. If you apply excessive force, pins may get skewed on the backplane. Insert boards along sliding rails. Do not allow mutual contact of the board circuit planes to prevent short circuit or scuffing. Do not remove the active board before power-off. When holding a board by hand, never touch the circuits, components, connectors, or wiring slots on the board to prevent the sensitive components from being damaged by the electrostatic energy in human body.

General Laser Information

WARNING
When handling optical fibers, do not stand close to, or stare at the optical fiber outlet directly with naked eyes. Laser transceivers or transmitters are used in the optical transmission system and associated test tools. Because the laser being transmitted through the optical fiber produces a small beam of light, it has very high power density and is invisible to human eyes. When a beam of light enters the eye, the retina may get damaged. Viewing an un-terminated fiber or damaged fiber with naked eyes at distances greater than 150 mm (6 inches) will normally not cause eye injury. Eyes can get damaged, however, if an optical tool such as a microscope, magnifying glass or eye loupe is used to view the energized fiber end.

Power Cable
The power cable should be an integrated cable without connectors in the middle.

B.1.3 Protections
Antistatic Protection
You can adopt the following measures:

Adopt dust-proof measures. If the humidity is high in the equipment room, dust can cause electricity leakage. If the humidity is low, dust can cause adsorption of static electricity. Maintain the temperature and the humidity at a proper level. If the humidity in the equipment room is very high, the devices or cabinets can corrode as they are made of metal. If the humidity is very low, static electricity can be generated easily. Wear antistatic wrist straps and antistatic clothing when handling the equipment.

Lightning Protection

The length of the lightning arrester should be less than 30 m, and the shorter the better. Any outdoor cable should be grounded when it is led indoors. Lightning arresters should be applied when any outdoor aerial cable is led indoors.

Anti-Earthquake Requirement
The designed anti-earthquake intensity of the telecom equipment room must be one degree (Richter scale) higher than that of the common buildings.

Interference Prevention
Multiple anti-interference measures should be taken in the equipment room, to prevent interferences of the power supply network, the grounding system, the environment, and the telecom lines.

B.1.4 Grounding
Protection Ground

The protection ground should be connected to the fifth line of a three-phase-five-wire cable, which must be insulated from the zero phase of the AC power supply. The resistance of the protection grounding cable, if applied independently, should not be more than 3 ohms. If joint grounding is used, the resistance should not be more than 0.5 ohm. The noise voltage of the protection grounding cable should not be more than 25 mV. There are three types of grounds.

BGND: 48 V power reflow ground. PGND: the handle bar of the equipment. Benign conductors include the shell of the sub-rack and the cabinet. GND: referenced ground of working circuits.

Ground the device as required. Always wear an antistatic wrist strap during the operation. Tighten the wrist strap around your wrist skin, and attach the other end of the wrist strap to the grounding point of the equipment, as shown in Figure B-4.

Figure B-4 Wearing an antistatic wrist strap

Check the validity and functionality of the wrist strap. If the validity period (usually two years) of the wrist strap expires or the resistance value does not meet the requirement, use a new antistatic wrist strap. An antistatic wrist strap cannot protect the board from the static electricity generated when the board touches your clothes. Therefore, any contact between the board and clothes should be prevented. When you replace the board software or chipset, you need to use an antistatic mat. When you pick up or plug/unplug the chipset, use antistatic nippers and a chipset extractor. The chipsets or pins on the printed circuit board (PCB) should never be touched with bare hands. Keep the boards and other ESD sensitive parts to be installed in static shielding bags. Place the removed boards and components on an antistatic mat or other antistatic materials. Do not use non-antistatic materials such as white foams, common plastic bags, or paper bags to pack boards or contact boards with these materials. Wear an antistatic wrist strap when operating the ports of boards because they are also ESD-sensitive. Discharge the static electricity of cables and protective sleeves before connecting them to the ports. Reserve some materials for packing the boards (such as antistatic boxes and bags) in the room and storing them for future use.
