and ENERGY STAR Features

This home built by Habitat for Humanity of the Mid Willamette Valley is an Earth Advantage and ENERGY STAR certified home. Upon certification this home will have achieved the rigorous Energy Efficiency standards set by ENERGY STAR and will meet the Earth Advantage guidelines of Energy Efficiency, Healthier Indoor Air, Materials responsibility, Land conservation, and Water conservation, delivering a superior built home to buyers. This level of achievement is designed to help the house perform better and exceed those that are built to standard building practices. As you tour the home, look for the Earth Advantage and ENERGY STAR features listed below. Energy Efficiency Features: Tankless Gas Water Heater Uses 45 to 60% less energy than required by the current federal standards. Efficiencies achieved result from a combination of more efficient burners and the lack of stand-by losses that occur in tank water heaters. Rigid Foam Exterior Insulation This is additional insulation applied to the external sheathing that significantly improves a homes overall energy performance. ENERGY STAR Dishwasher Saves water and uses at least 41% less energy than the federal minimum standard for energy consumption. Intermediate Framing improves the thermal envelope and the homes overall energy efficiency by insulating areas that traditional framing techniques do not. Healthier Indoor Air Features: House Tightening Measures help ensure the homes energy performance by reducing air infiltration through the thermal shell. This is accomplished by sealing areas such as plumbing and electrical penetrations. Green Guard Certified Insulation This material is made from low-formaldehyde and recycled content, making it efficient and improving the overall air quality in the home. Heat Recovery (HRV) or Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) Provides superior air quality and conserves energy by transferring 75% of the heat from outgoing, stale indoor air to the fresh, incoming outdoor air. Protect Duct Vents/Ductwork during Construction This step ensures that dust and debris caused by construction activities do not settle in the ducts and negatively affect the air quality of the home. Blown-in Insulation Systems This system improves a homes energy efficiency by filling the wall cavity completely, including the areas around pipes, cables, and outlets. Energy Truss This type of design allows for full attic insulation to the edge of the wall, increasing energy savings. Duct Leakage Test This test ensures that the duct system has been properly sealed to help maintain indoor air quality and that energy normally lost through leaks in the duct system is conserved. Duct leakage can account for up to 30% of all heating/ cooling loss. Forced Air Gas Furnace A furnace rated to at least 90 AFUE means that it is 12% more energy efficient than the federal code.

Water Conservation Features: Low Water Use Plants These conserve water by requiring little or supplemental water to the climates natural rainfall. Once established, they often require no additional water. Organic Matter Tilled into the Soil This acts as a natural reservoir for nutrients and water, conserving the amount of water needed for irrigation while improving the life of vegetation. Material Responsibility Features: Fiber Cement Siding (50 Year Warranty) drastically reduces the demand on forest products by recycling industrial materials into a useful product. The siding can be produced to a specified size, supporting waste-free design. Window and Door Flashing System This system increases the longevity of materials by preventing outside water from penetrating and damaging vulnerable areas around doors and windows. Land Conservation Features: Access to Public Transit This home is located within walking distance of public transportation, providing homeowners with the option to use alternative transportation and maximize the associated environmental benefits. Condensed Lot Size This reduces land development, encourages higher density living, and maximizes current land, all of which minimize urban sprawl. Local Materials- From raw material extraction to the final jobsite product, this house practices excellence in land conservation by keeping the entire lifecycle of a given material within a 500 mile radius. Smaller Home Size Smaller homes require fewer materials and use less energy than larger homes. Organic Fertilizers or Pesticides These release slowly into plants and will not contaminate local water supplies. Exterior Doors Made of Steel or Fiberglass These doors are better insulated and are more durable than wood doors. Hard Surface Flooring This flooring does not harbor dust mites, mold, household dust and debris, or harmful chemicals that can off-gas into the home over time. Increasing the percentage of hard flooring provides a surface that is more durable and easier to clean than carpet. Water Efficient Kitchen Faucets These faucets use aerators to mix air with the flowing water. The perceived flow is comparable to normal fixtures, can save up to 500 gallons of water per year, and reduces water bills. Water Efficient Showerheads These conserve up to 30% more water than traditional showerheads and save energy associated with this conservation.
