Job Description Position Title: Watsan Hardware Officer Reporting to: Guyana Red Cross Society Project Coordinator (PC) French Red Cross Head of Delegation (FRC HOD Job Location: Region 1 (Moruca) 70% travel in the subdistrict communities Purpose: The Guyana Red Cross Society in collaboration with the French Red Cross (FRC) seeks a qualified and motivated Watsan Hardware Field Officer (WH) to support a European Commission ACP EU Water Facility and FRC funded Project. The Improved, water, sanitation and hygiene conditions for Hinterland communities project will be carried out in the Moruca and Mabaruma Sub-districts of Region 1 for a period of 45 months. The Hardware Officer will be responsible for coordinating the hardware aspects of the project (Construction of water and sanitation structures) and the training and formation of the water committees. He or she will also need to carry out basic support dunctions for the office, such as petty cash management, purchasing, etc. The hardware officer will work with the Hygiene Promotion Officer to also disseminate hygiene messaging in the target communities; he or she will alsolend support to the entire field team consisting for the Hygiene Promotion Officer and 2 field assistants to supervise a group of up to 30 volunteers and represent the GRCS in meetings with relevant stakeholders in the region. The position will be based in Moruca. General duties applicable to all: Uphold the principles of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement Work towards the achievement of the project goals through effective lateral relations and teamwork Ensure understanding of roles; responsibilities, lateral relationships and accountabilities Build up an atmosphere of respect and trust within the project team Build and maintain effective professional working relationships with government authorities, humanitarian/development organizations and community members. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Work closely with the Hygiene Promotion Officer for the correct implementation of the PHAST (participative hygiene and sanitation transformation) and CLTS (community led total sanitation) methodology by the volunteers in the project villages. Once the PHAST and CLTS projects have produced the community plans, supervise and monitor the implementation and construction of the water and sanitation infrastructure selected by the community (wells, rainwater harvesting, boreholes; VIP latrines, pumps, etc). Take the leading role in the creation and training of the water committees that will be formed in each village. As necessary, assist the Field Officer (HPCP) in the design and implementation of the hygiene promotion programme based on the outputs of the PHAST and CLTS methodologies Supervise and monitor the coaches and volunteers (up to 30) involved in the project. Regular field visits to the target villages in the region will be an important part of this task.

Carry out basic financial; admin and logistics tasks (petty cash, purchasing, etc) at the base level as directed by the FRC HOD and in collaboration with the Finance and Logistics Officer (FinLog) located in Georgetown. Work closely with and keep informed all regional stakeholders; including government authorities, local NGOs and community groups. Organize and implement training for community volunteers, including the areas of, PHAST, CLTS, hygiene promotion, WASH technical training, etc. Assure that field reporting for the project is correctly implemented including data entry and analysis. Additionally, submit situation reports to the FRC HOD and GRCS PC as directed Understand and comply with Red Cross Movement fundamental principles, in addition to assisting volunteers and other staff in understanding and complying with the principles. Participate in any training workshops organized by the FRC HOD to improve the knowledge of staff. Be ready to assist the GRC PC, the FRC HOD, and GRCS staff with other tasks not specifically mentioned above. Job Requirements and Qualifications
Required: Two years experience in construction of water or sanitatiinon systems and/or equivalent experience in the civil construction sector. The candidate should possess knowledge of basic construction techniques in masonry, plumbing and carpentry Practical experience in mplementing projets with community participation and volunteer support At least 3 CXC/CSEC subjects, inclusing Math and English Knowledge of computers (Windows, spreadsheets, work processing, e-mail) Proven good planning, communication, reporting and organization skills. Preferred: Previous experience in community based work with NGOs and/or international organisations Experience in hygiene or health promotion Firsthand knowledge of Moruca, Region 1 Valid boat license/drivers licensce (Van/Manual Transmission) Flexibility, Adaptability, and Motivation
