Scripture who brought forth water for you from the flinty rock and fed you in the desert with manna, (Deuteronomy 8:16) with the best of wheat he fills you. (Psalm 147:14) The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? 1 Corinthians 10:16) unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. (John 6:53) Reflection Is developing a mature spirit possible without living in a community? Is being a Christian possible outside of a community? Is being a Christian community (the Body of Christ) possible without the Eucharist (the Body of Christ)? Are sacraments individual or community events? Can a person receive a sacrament outside of a community? How does your parish fulfill the role of being the Body of Christ? We tend to think of individual human beings as unconnected until they choose to become connected either because it is useful or because of some natural attraction. But there is an important biblical alternative to this interpretation, in many ways countercultural. We are all children of the same God, with the same earth as our common home. We are inter-related and interdependent. We have no choice about whether we live in relationship. Our only choices are whether we tell the truth about our social existence and whether we live in ways that redeem the relational web that is always and forever the matrix of our becoming. It (Body of Christ) is a way of being in the world with one another and with Christ because of who God is. The body of Jesus in life, the Body of Christ in the Easter event, the Body of Christ who we are, the Body of Christ in the Eucharist, and the Body of Christ that we become more fully in the resurrection of the body all these belong together in Bodys (of Christ) total meaning.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Q: Where is the Holy Spirit in my daily life? A: The Spirit's gifts, presence and transforming work are always for the sake of all. So must our Christian spirituality be for the benefit of all. By trying habitually to open ourselves to the Spirit alive in our world, we put our faith at the center of our lives, we make it a life-style. Over time, we begin to take on God's likeness inasmuch as we are able. We grow in holiness. The fruits of the Spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, trustworthiness, tenderness and self-controlare a good standard against which to measure oneself. We should ask ourselves: Am I improving in any of these qualities? Where do I seem least to exhibit the fruits of the Spirit? Reflect on your behavior at work and at home. Reflect on your various rolescitizen, neighbor, spouse, parent, parishioner, alumnus/a, team/club member and so on. Ask: How am I open to the Spirit in each of these roles? Do I bring my experience of the Spirit to all areas of my life? When you are finished, thank the Spirit for your strengths and fruits; ask for help in your weaknesses. Above all, keep opening yourself to the Spirit who works within you. Retrieved from http://www.americancatholic.org/

A Week Ahead THE FEAST OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

Next week, we will celebrate the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is celebrated 19 days after Pentecost which will be on July 1 in 2011. The purpose of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is to make us aware of His love and to arouse us to respond to that love by offering our love in return. We do this by the consecration of ourselves to Jesus and by reparation (prayer and sacrifices in atonement for our sins and sins of others). The enthronement is a crusade to establish the Social Reign of the Sacred Heart in society through the family, the social cell. It is the answer to the question: "What can we do to save the family?" The enthronement will restore the family to Christ because the family is putting Our Lord and His interest first. In return the Sacred Heart takes over the interests of the family. Our Lord Himself has promised that He will bless and sanctify those families who enthrone Him as King. He asked St. Margaret Mary, to whom He revealed His Sacred Heart, that He be allowed to reign over the homes of the rich and the poor; that He be solemnly received as King and Friend and that His Sacred Heart be honored and loved. Consider Our Lord's beautiful promises carefully and then full of trust and confidence, sincerely and devoutly follow step by step the Enthronement Ceremony. Promises of Our Lord Jesus Christ to Saint Margaret Mary granted to persons devoted to the Sacred Heart. 1. For Persons living in the World. "They will find by means of this devotion all the helps necessary for their state, such as peace in their families, refreshment in their labors, the blessing of heaven in all their undertakings, consolation in their troubles, and it is truly in this Heart, that they will find their refuge during life and above all at the hour of death. He promised He would reunite families that are separated." 2. For Homes where the picture of the Sacred Heart shall be Exposed and Honored. "Since He is the source of all blessings, He shall shower them in abundance on every place where a picture of His Divine Heart shall be set up and honored." 3. Promise of Salvation for All Who Have Been Devoted and Consecrated to It. "He then confirmed His assurance that the pleasure He takes in being loved, known and honored by His creatures is so great . . . that all who will be devoted and consecrated to It shall never perish." 4. For Those Who work For the Salvation of Souls. "My divine Savior has given me to understand that those who work for the salvation of souls will have a gift of touching the most hardened hearts, and will labor with marvelous success, if they themselves are penetrated with a

Page 2

tender devotion to His Divine Heart." 5. Promise of a Happy Death for those Who Communicate on the First Friday of Nine Consecutive Months. One Friday during Holy Communion, He said these words to His unworthy slave if she is not mistaken, "I promise thee in the excessive Mercy of My Divine Heart, that It's allpowerful will grant the grace of final repentance to all who communicate on the First Friday of nine consecutive months, that they shall not die under Its displeasure nor without receiving the sacraments, for My Divine Heart will become their secure refuge at that last moment." 6. Promise of the Reign of the Sacred Heart. "Yes, this Divine Heart will reign in spite of those who would oppose it; Satan will be put to confusion with all his followers." 7. For Those Who Promote Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. "Those who propagate this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart never to be blotted out." What a perfect blessing! We can easily promote this devotion to His Sacred Heart by distributing this leaflet among as many people as possible urging them to enthrone their home to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. 8. For Communities. "He has promised me . . . that He will spread the sweet unction of His burning charity over all those communities who honor It and place themselves under its special protection, that He will turn away from them all the strokes of divine justice, in order to restore them to grace when they have fallen from it." There are many sources to consecrate you and your family to Christ. Check The FamilyLand link in our website for more information. Retrieved from http://www.newadvent.org/

To ALL EMEs
To simplify some of the recent confusion, all the scheduled EMEs for each Mass should go to the front of the chapel at the sign of peace and stand in front of the first pew on the left. After the priest and deacon(s) have received, go up into the sanctuary and stand to the left of the altar. If you are in the congregation and see that there are not enough ministers, please step up when the other ministers go into the sanctuary.

Altar Servers
"The altar server occupies a privileged place in the liturgical celebration. He who serves at Mass, presents himself to a community. He experiences firsthand that Jesus Christ is present and active in every liturgical act. Jesus is present when the community comes together to pray and render praise to God. Jesus is present in the Word of sacred Scripture. Jesus is present above all in the Eucharist under the signs of bread and wine. He acts through the priest who, in the person of Christ, celebrates the holy Mass and administers the sacraments. Therefore, in the liturgy, you are much more than simple "helpers of the parish priest". Above all, you are servers of Jesus Christ, of the eternal High Priest. Thus, you, altar servers, are called in particular to be young friends of Jesus. Be determined to go deeper and to cultivate this friendship with Him. You will discover that in Jesus you have found a true friend for life." - Blessed Pope John Paul II We want YOU to serve in our Parish! St. Michaels needs young men and women who have received their first Communion, are in grades 4-12, and adults who wish to serve in the ministry of Altar Server. Prayefully consider joining this holy ministry and contact Alex Besel for more information at (706) 855-9275 or adbesel@gmail.com.

Page 4 Bible Study on The Book of Samuel

The book of 2 Samuel follows the life and reign of David. God used David to bring Israel back to Himself, and to set the standard for the reign of future kings. Many kings after David were judged by whether they had done what was right in the sight of the Lord according to their father David. But more importantly, 2 Samuel records the personal covenant God made with David for an everlasting kingdom. King David, the second king of Israel, took the throne after the death of King Saul. David was God's choice for king, and proved to be a mighty warrior who led his army into many victories in battle. David also proved himself vulnerable to human weakness. David's wealth was great, his army was mighty, his name was well-known among the surrounding nations, and his presence stirred respect and loyalty among his people. He successfully recaptured the Ark of the Covenant from the Philistines and had it carried into Jerusalem. The entire nation was living in the will and blessing of God. Israel was at rest from their enemies, and all seemed well. Although David was a great king, he lacked in parental skills. David had many sons, all of whom had little guidance or correction throughout their upbringing, making his household a breeding ground for the rebellion and division that arose in the latter years of his reign. David's parental neglect eventually evolved into a lack of personal integrity, causing him to fall into Satan's trap. David was lured by the beauty and availability of Bathsheba, the wife of one of his mighty men who was away at war. Had David been tending to his duties as king by accompanying his army into battle, he would not have been home with a restless mind and too much time on his hands. After his conquest of Jerusalem, David decided to stay behind while his entire army went on a military campaign. It was a costly mistake. Adultery, murder and deceit followed, and God's anger was aroused against David. He sent Nathan the prophet to confront David, and to remind him that it was God who had made him king of Israel, and that everything he had God had given to him. When David realized the depth of his sins, his heart broke and he immediately repented. God forgave him, but the consequences had already been set in motion. These long-term consequences affected his household and all of Israel. Many tragedies marked a large portion of David's reign. Not only did he see the death of his infant son born to Bathsheba, but his firstborn son, Amnon, committed incest with his sister, Tamar. Two years later, David's son, Absalom, murdered Amnon. Eventually, Absalom incited a rebellion against his father, taking over the throne and causing David to flee from Jerusalem. The revolt ended with the death of Absalom at the hands of Joab, commander of David's army. The kingdom was restored back to David, but the pain of his loss stayed with him for the rest of his life. As the book of 2 Samuel ends, David is caught in another of Satan's sinful traps, but this time God gives David a choice of consequences: seven years of famine, three months of fleeing from his enemies, or a threeday plague in the land. David chose the plague. But as the angel of the Lord was poised with his sword to destroy Jerusalem, God restrained his hand. Nearly 1,000 years before, Abraham had taken Isaac up to that same mountain, Mt. Moriah, and offered him as a sacrifice according to the command of the Lord. But as Abraham's hand was also poised with his knife to slay his son, God restrained his hand, providing a ram as a substitute for sacrifice. Knowing it was God who spared Jerusalem, the beloved city, David purchased the threshing floor of Auranah where the angel of the Lord had been standing. He built an altar there and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings to the Lord, and prayed for the removal of the plague from the land. God heeded the prayers of David, and the plague was withdrawn. It was on that threshing floor that David's son, Solomon, who reigned after him, later built the temple of the Lord. King David reigned over Israel 40 years. Though his reign was marked with sin and bloodshed, he was still called a man after God's own heart. God loved him as His own son, and redeemed him for the sake of a greater King who was to come, the promised Messiah. At the end of David's reign, he gave all of his wealth for the building of the future temple, and commissioned his son, Solomon, to follow in the ways of the Lord. He paved the way for Solomon to become another of Israel's great kings. This is where the book of 1 Kings begins.
