Welcome
September is here And so if fall. So welcome children Welcome all. I hope vacation Was real fun. And that youre glad School has begun.

My School Pledge

I pledge today to do my best in reading, math, and all the rest. I promise to obey the rules in my class and in our school. Ill respect myself and others, too. Ill expect the best in all I do. I am here to learn all I can, To try my best and be all I am.

Number Printing Poem


Number 1 is like a stick. A straight line down thats very quick! For number 2, go right around. Then make a line across the ground! Go right around, what will it be? Go round again to make a 3! Down and over and down some more. Thats the way to make a 4! Go down and around, then you stop. Finish the 5 with a line on the top! Make a curve, then a loop. There are no tricks to making a 6! Across the sky and down from heaven. Thats the way to make a 7! Make a S and then dont wait. Climb up again to make an ! Make a loop and then a line. Thats the way to make a 9! Make a 1 and then an 0. 10 are all your ngers you know!

Good morning its time to rise. Stand up and wipe your sleepy eyes. Reach and stretch for the sky, Hold your hands way up high. Bend your body and touch the ground. Stand up straight, now turn around. Owl
An owl sat watching in a tree, Just as wise as he could be. Watching tricksters from door to door run, Trick or treating and having fun. After he had watched the whole scene. He said, Whoo, its Owl-o-ween!

Skeleton Parade
The skeletons are out tonight, They march about the street, With bony bodies, bony heads, And bony hands and feet. Bony, bony, bony, bones with nothing in between. Up and down and all around, They march on Halloween.

Albuquerque Turkey
Albuquerque is a turkey. And hes feathered and hes ne. And he wobbles and he gobbles And hes absolutely mine. Hes the best pet that you can get. Better than a dog or cat. Hes my Albuquerque turkey And Im awfully proud of that. He once told me, very frankly, He preferred to be my pet, Not the main course at my dinner, And I told him not to fret. And my Albuquerque turkey Is so happy in his bed. Cause for our Thanksgiving dinner, We had egg foo young instead.

A Thanksgiving Dinner
Take a turkey, stuff it fat. Some of this and some of that. Get some turnips, peel them well, Cook a big squash in its shell. Now potatoes, big and white. Mash till they are soft and light. Cranberries, so tart and sweet, With the turkey we must eat. Pickles-yes- and then, oh my! For a dessert, a pumpkin pie. Golden brown and spicy sweet. What a n Thanksgiving treat! Maude M. Grant

Turkey Trouble

We cooked turkey, nice and hot, Nice and hot, nice and hot. We cooked turkey nice and hot On Thanksgiving Day. We eat turkey a whole lot, A whole lot, a whole lot. We eat turkey a whole lot. It will not go away! Sandwiches and soup are ne. By the way, would you like mine? Pot pie lasts a long, long time. Its turkey every day!

Money
Penny, penny, Easily spent. Copper brown and worth one cent! Nickel, nickel, Thick and fat. Youre worth ve cents, I know that! Dime, dime, Little and thin. I remember, Youre worth ten! Quarter, quarter, Big and bold. Youre worth twenty-ve I am told!

A Gingerbread Poem
What do you feel? The cookie dough. Its smooth and soft to touch. Cool and squishy in my hands; I like it very much! What do you hear? The rolling pin. Its rolling out the dough. Rrr-rrr goes the rolling pin, A-rolling to and fro. What do you smell? A spicy scent. Its lling up the room. Sweet and strong, it smells so goodMuch better than perfume. What do you see? A fresh-baked treat. Its color is just right: What a lovely golden brown! A very pretty sight! What do you taste? The gingerbread! A spicy treat or two. Sweet and yummy in my mouth; Now Ill share some with you!

Day Before Christmas


We have been helping with the cake And licking out the pan And wrapping up our packages As neatly as we can. We have hung our stockings up Beside the open grate, And now theres nothing more to do Except To Wait.

Santa
Santas sometimes called Kris Kringle. His merry eyesoh how they twinkle. His nose and cheeks are red as a rose, Which match all his bright red clothes. Wearing a white beard and boots of black. Hes a jolly elf carrying his sack. When he laughs, he Ho, ho, hos, From the tip of his hat to the end of his nose.

January
January Now is here A ne new start. The snow comes down In the dark of night. When we awake The world is white. In January When theres snow, We get our sleds And away we go.

The Snowman
One day we built a snowman, We built him out of snow; You should have seen how ne he was, All white from top to toe. We poured some water over him, To freeze his legs and ears; And when we went indoors to bed, We thought hed last for years. But, in the night a warmer kind Of wind began to blow; And Jack Frost cried and ran away, And with him went the snow. When we went out next morning To bid our friend Good Day There wasnt any snowman there Hed melted right away!

Im a little snowake white and round I dont make a sound as I fall to the ground. When you look out your window you will shout, Im putting on my mittens and going out!

The Faces of the Clock


The Big hand is busy, But the Small Hand has power. The large one counts the minutes. But the Little One names the hour. When both hands stand at the top together, Its sure to be Twelve Oclock. But whether Thats twelve at noon or twelve at night Depends on if its dark or light.

The Second of February


Theres only the day the whole long year, That I hope and pray the sun wont appear. The second of February, you all know, The groundhog goes searching for his shadow. If he should nd it, the story is told, Well have six more weeks of winters cold. But if it is cloudy, his shadows not there, Therell soon be warm weather and days will be fair. So please, Mr. Sun, for just this one day. Find a big dark cloud and stay away!

Valentines Day
If I could be the postman For just one single time, Id choose to carry Valentines So lovely and so ne. I would not mind the heavy load, Or mind my tired feet. If I could scatter happiness All up and down the street.

Valentine Verses
Now St. Valentine is here. We greet his birthday with a cheer. For happiness from friend to friend Flies with the Valentines we send. Today as Valentines go out To people near and far, This one Im sending right to you To say how nice you are.

The Cocoon
I found a cocoon That a caterpillar made, Fastened to a leaf Hanging in the shade. He barely had room To wiggle or way, Like me zipped up In my sleeping bag. I looked each time That I passed his way, But he never budged Until just today. Something happened! He wagged and wiggled And then climbed out And carefully jiggled Small wet wings That grew as they dried. Hed turned to a buttery Inside!

Spider Webs
The spider weaves a sticky web To capture bugs to eat. What keeps the spiders sticky web From sticking to her feet? Spider webs are very tricky Because not all the strands are sticky. Unlike the passing hapless y, The spider knows which strands are dry. But if she accidentally stands upon one of the sticky strands, She still would not get stuck, you see Her oily body slides off free. Amy Goldman Koss

I Have a Little Frog


I have a little frog His name is Tiny Tim, I put him in the bathtub, To see if he could swim, He drank up all the water, And gobbled up the soap! And when he tried to talk He had a BUBBLE in his throat!

Oh, my mother isnt Irish And my father isnt too, But today I feel as Irish As the real Irish do. For today I wear a shamrock That is green in every way. And though I am a Texan, I am Irish for today! Aileen Fisher

Rags
I have a dog his name is Rags, He eats so much his tummy sags. His ears ip op and his tail wig wags. And when he walks, he walks zig zag! He goes ip-op, wig-wag, zig-zag! He goes ip-op, wig-wag, zig-zag! He goes ip-op, wig-wag, zig-zag! I love Rags and he loves me!

My Puppy
My puppy has a doghouse, just outside my door. He licks me when I pet him, and wags his tail for more. Hes always there beside me, no matter what I do. My puppy is my special friend, and a family member, too.

I like books I really do Books with stories And pictures, too. Books of birds And things that grow Books of people We should know. Books of animals And places, too, I like books I really do!

Rain Rain
Rain, rain falls on the street, mud in puddles cleaning my feet. Thunder, thunder rumble and roar, close the windows and lock the door. Clouds, clouds black and gray, heavy with water to drop all day. Sun, sun is breaking through, clouds are moving, the rain stops too. Rainbow, rainbow across the sky, see-through colors to tickle my eyes.

Solar System
Twinkle, twinkle, little star, oh so bright and oh so far. In the sky, a tiny dot. Glowing gas thats very hot! Twinkle, twinkle, little star, Oh so bright and oh so far. Beaming, beaming, gleaming moon, Like a giant white balloon, Round and round the Earth you spin, Through the month, new shapes youre in. Beaming, beaming, gleaming moon, Like a giant white balloon. Kite Flying
On many spring days I wish that I Could be a kite ying in the sky. I would climb high toward the sun And chase the clouds. Oh, what fun! Whichever way the wind chanced to blow Is the way that I would go. Id y up, up, up. Id y down, down, down. Then Id spin round and round and round. Finally Id oat softly to the ground.

Summer
I love summer! Summer is hot. Its sun and shade. Its water to wade. Its frogs and bugs. its grass for rugs. Its eating outside. Its a tree-swing ride. Its tomatoes and corn. Its dew in the morn. its dogs and boys And lots of noise. Its a hot sunny sky. Its summer. Thats why I love summer.

Vacation
In my head I hear a humming: Summer, summer, summers coming. Soon were going on vacation But there is a complication: Dad by day the problems growingWe dont know yet where were going!
