INTRODUCTION <TOP> All over the world, women have played significant roles in their countries' development.

They have contributed to the economic growth of their country by taking care of their families and working in and owning businesses. They have worked as doctors, teachers, electricians and artists. Women have even been prime ministers of countries. Unfortunately, not every society values the role women play and the contribution they make to their country's development. Some beliefs and practices create societies in which males play the dominant role. Religious traditions can contribute to making women second-class citizens. Low education levels and the tendency for women to have low self-confidence also contributes. In Nepal, men tend to be the owners of property and the decision makers in the families. Women often stay at home, cleaning, cooking and caring for their children. Although these activities are essential for the well being of the family, women are often not respected for their work. Many times, when women venture out of the home to take part in other types of activities, such as going to school, owning businesses and participating in politics, they are often held back or discouraged. This unit focuses on the challenges women face in improving their lives and their standing in Nepali society. It is important to note, that the challenges women face in Nepal are common around the world. Women in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas all face similar difficulties.

Role of Women in Society

The role of women in society has been greatly overseen in the last few decades but now are coming to a more perspective to people. In the early days women were seen as wives who were intended to cook, clean, and take care of the kids. They were not allowed to vote while men took care of having jobs and paying any bills that had to be paid. Soon enough it caught on that women should have a bigger role than what other people thought women should have. Women would have strikes and go on marches to prove that they should have rights just like everyone else. They faced discrimination like and other race that faced it. Women would voice their opinion in any way possible so that they could reach their goa

Women in past In the past, women were considered inferior to men. They were not allowed to participate in the social life and its activities. Their activities were confined to domestic jobs. It was believed that women were the maidservants of their husbands. Women in present In the modern word, women are taking part in every field of life. Women play a great role in human progress and have an important place in society. They are not inferior to men. They are capable of sharing the responsibilities of life shoulder to shoulder with men. In some fields, they have surpassed men. They have proved themselves more successful and useful in the field of teaching and medicine than men. Man and woman have been rightly compared to the wheels of a carriage. Womens responsibilities The main responsibility of a woman is to preserve the human race. For this she has to bear many hardships. She gives birth to children, feeds them and helps them grow up. It is quit true that great men have great mothers. The progress of a nation depends upon the way the mothers bring up their children. If the women are educated, the society is bound to progress. She should not neglect her duties as a wife mother. Women should be given proper education and training. Educated women can do much to reform

the society. Being educated, they are today working as police and military officers, too. They are writers. They are poets. Women place in Islam In an Islamic society, a woman occupies a very respectable position. In this respect. Our Holy prophet Muhammad (Blessing & peace be upon him) has said: Verily the paradise lies under the feet of your mother. Quran says: Women have the some rights in relation to their husbands. On other place Quran says: Treat them politely. In the Quran there are many place where the Holy Book tells us the important place of women in society. Islam gives four important places to a woman as doughtier, sister, wife and mother. Islam gives the right to a woman to many independently. In short, Islam gives all rights to a woman, which are necessary. Conclusion To conclude, women who were not given the due place and importance in our society, are now being given due position and importance. Women should lead their lives according to the Islam. A woman of today is different from a woman of the past. Her contribution in every field of life is being recognized in every society of the modern word.

Women in society are as important as men. In fact both men and women make it possible for society to exict and to make progress. The position of women in our society is, on the whole world, not satisfactory. Most of our women living in villages are uneducated like village men. They do not enjoy many of the rights which men enjoy in village society. Very few women enjoy independent position as owners of land of property. They depend on their husbands or other men looking after their families. Women in villages cannot often marry as they like. They do not have much control over thier affairs. Married women mostly depend on their husbands in all important matters of life. If they try to have ther will, their husbands generally oppose them and there are quarrls and disputes. These disputes sometimes result in divorce. In the advanced countries like Japan, France and America women enjoy a respectable position. They are treated as equal with men in almost every field of life. They can freely get education like men. In villages there women own and control their properties and lands without much interference of their husbands and male members of their families. They work in the fields like men and enjoy quite independent positions. In the cities women can work in most professions in side by side with men. They can have their will in some important matters of life like buying or selling houses, dediding about the carrers of their children, etc. We should give enough chances to our women to work in different fields of life for quick deverlopment of the country, Village women should find it easy to work on villege farms with men. Chances should be given to village women to come to cities we should give more independence to the poor women who depend on men in all matters of life. It should not be possible

for husbands or other men to trouble treat women cruelly in any way. There should be more scope for our women to work in some professions like teaching, sociel welfare and medicine. Here women can work in as good a way as men. Some special professions for women like nursing can be reformed a great deal. Women joining them should be given better status and salaries. Yet it is for our women to take special care of their homes, husbands and childrens. The first duty of every women is to look after her home. If she has free time after doing her necessary household work, she can work to earn money. WISH YOU BEST OF LUCH YOUR REGRADS, ABDUL SAMAD

Role of Women in Today's Society

Strange as it may seem, the family roles have not changed much in today's society. While girls and women (not only Polish) have more opportunities in home based employment, the traditional roles of women are still quite evident. They are still the caring provider and nurturer of young infants and children, the comforter for the crying child and the feminine presence of the household. While the husband's role has diversified into more household chores and the cooking and cleaning up responsibilities, they are still considered the head of the household. In the absence of the man, can the woman really "be like the man"? I think yes. There are women who are capable in finance, Do-It-Yourself fixtures and fittings, even being a capable single parent and bread winner. In this respect, women will have to be like the man. Of course, the woman cannot match the physical strength of the man. The other aspect of "thinking like the man" is a definite no. This is through experience. Women generally look at the details and forget about the overall picture. They have the capability of juggling more than one issue at a time unlike the man. And she is more tempered to her feelings. And because of this, the focus is not there to make a sound judgment. Men on the other hand, are more focus and look at one thing at a time. They are less prone to feelings and therefore they are better at seeing the overall picture. I think for this matter, a man balances up the woman and vice versa. If we look at the example of a family with the wife who tries to be like the man, we have a situation where the roles are different now, because of the presence of the man. Man, no matter how gifted or ungifted have a certain ability to say that he is

THE man in the house. And for the wife to usurp his position there will be certain unrest in the overall relationship. This may not be currently evident but it will become an issue at a later stage. Subtle hints are always there and if the wife chooses not to suspect or confront the situation, it will lead to a crisis. For a single woman to think like the man is a cultivated trait and takes a bit of training. We can see this in the military but in a family, the situation is entirely different. Matters of finance, of house hold purchases and bringing up children can take a toll on the mental strength of a woman. Thinking like a man here is not going to be balanced because a man doesn't see things a woman does. There's a feel for action and reaction in terms of human response for a woman. This is the area a woman's ability outshines the man's. And no matter what the training is, the feelings will still over rule prudence, objectivity and frugality. Yes, the man is not a big spender. He spends on what he needs and only that. Whereas, the woman spends on what she needs, what her children needs, what her friends and parents need. Therefore in the short term it may look okay but then the debts start piling up and the woman will be overwhelmed with it and then starts a course of painful self discovery. In essence, I think of the different physiological makeup of the man and the woman and that somehow, being single can offset certain weaknesses but when it comes to the family, both partners are needed. The man's contribution in objective input on logic and reason and the woman's influence on human relationships and needs thus help to promote strength together for the family. Ivone

status of women in society O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know each other. Verily the most honored of you in the sight of God is (one who is) the most righteous of you. And God has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things). [Quran 49:13] Since the beginning of time women are considered the Inferior sex and men automatically the superior despite of the words written in our holy book that in the eyes of God the highest placement always belongs to the one who is pious and most righteous. Renowned Muslim woman scholar Dr.Riffat Hassan has rightly concluded in one of her articles that in spite of the fact that the Holy

Quran is particularly solicitous about women's wellbeing and development, women have been the targets of the most serious human rights violation in Muslim societies. Not Islam but the contrariety that exists between Quranic ideals and practice of a number of women -related issues contributes to a large extent the present status of women. The typical subjugated image of Pakistani women mirrors the centuries old patriarchy in the sub-continent and legacy of the military regimes in the coun

The study of women in Islam investigates the role of women within the religion of Islam.[1] The complex relationship between women and Islam is defined by both Islamic texts and the history and culture of the Muslim world.[2] While men and women have different roles within Islam, some argue that the Qur'an makes it clear that they are equal,[3][4][5] however the Qu'ran states in 4:34, "Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has made one of them to excel the other, and because they spend from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient and guard in the husband's absence what Allah orders them to guard." Although the Quran does say this, the superiority of men is sometimes interpreted in terms of strength by the context - men maintain women.[6] Others maintain this refers to men having an advantage over women, in knowledge, reason, authority and otherwise.[7] Sharia (Islamic law) provides for complementarianism,[8] differences between women's and men's roles, rights, and obligations. Majority Muslim countries give women varying degrees of rights with regards to marriage, divorce, civil rights, legal status, dress code, and education based on different interpretations. Scholars and other commentators vary as to whether they are just

and whether they are a correct interpretation of religious imperatives. Conservatives argue that differences between men and women are due to different status, while liberal Muslims, Muslim feminists, and others argue in favor of other interpretations. Some women have achieved high political office in Muslim majority states.
