EMERGENCY DESCENT CASE I : WHEN STRUCTURE INTEGRITY IS IN DOUBT This procedure is followed in case of a structure failure i.e. a window or a door blown out or a windscreen collapse causing a rapid decompression etc. Normally in such case a loud bang is heard and a surge in cabin pressure is experienced which is

easily recognized. The lower ECAM & the PRESS page will automatically appear & indication would confirm the cabin altitude climbing rapidly and the cabin pressure decreasing. 1. PF & PNF to immediately don Oxygen Masks & establish communication with each other. 2. Set OXY diluter to N position. Avoid continuous use of the INT posn on the ACP so as to minimize the breathing noise. 3. PF to select about 100 on the FCU ALT & Pull knob. 4. PF to select the current speed on the FCU speed and Pull knob. If MACH is indicated on the FCU press the changeover button have SPD so as to have maintain the present speed throughout the descent. 5. PF to pull HDG knob and give about 4 flicks so as to have an approx. 90o hdg. change. Thereafter can ask the PNF to give an offset of about 15nm to right. Whenever vacating the PDR all turns to right unless due airspace of traffic restrictions etc. 6. PNF to inform ATC of the situation. ---- if unable to have contact with ATC , make blind transmission on area VHF & 121.5 so that other a/c could monitor and be aware of your posn. 7. Confirm Pax/ Oxygen Sys. Deployed if Cabin altitude > 14,000ft. If not, deploy it manually. 8. PNF to select Landing lights ON, seat belts ON, ENG Mode sel to IGN, SQUAK 7700 and obtain cabin report from cabin crew. And give appropriate instructions. 9. When below F310, use speed brakes to half detent. 10. PNF to check MORA and set on FCU if higher than F100 and callout when passing every 2000 ft. callout last 2000 and 1000 ft to the FCU altitude loudly for PF to take suitable actions. 11. Approaching about 1000 ft. to FCU altitude, PF should reduce the descent rate by selecting V/s so as to level-off at the FCU altitude and then remove the speed brakes. 12. Further descent below F100 should be made at a V/S of about 500ft / min so as to avoid discomfort to passenger ears due pressurization surges / pain 13. If excessive rate of descent is required at lower speed the L/g can be lowered. CASE II : WHEN STRUCTURE INTEGRITY NOT IN DOUBT

This could be so required as in case of pressurization failure or due to any reason where an emergency descent to a lower altitude is required immediately : 1. If press. SYS 1 has failed check that the SYS 2 has taken over. Perform a CB reset of SYS 1, as the system could be restored. Subsequently if SYS 2 also fails then control the press by the manual mode. If that also fails then an emergency descent will have to be made. 2. Proceed similarly as in the case of the structure integrity in doubt procedure but in this case select the EXPEDITE DES so as the a/c can descend at .80/340 kts 3. When close to the FCU level off altitude. Pull ALT Knob so as to have an OPEN DES to effect a gradual leveloff. First reduce the speed before removing the speed brakes otherwise there could be speed exceedance. OEB BULLETIN / ISSUE No : 139/1 DATE : NOV 98 REASON FOR ISSUE A number of cases of cabin depressurization have been reported due to the rapid opening of the outflow valve (OFV). This OEB is issued to provide operators with a procedure (to be applied if in automatic mode) to assist in recovering normal operation of the system if the OFV starts moving towards the open position. PROCEDURE: (To be applied only if in automatic cabin press mode) If the Cabin Altitude Advisory is triggered, apply the following procedure promptly: ! If outflow valve is moving towards open and cabin rate is above 1500 fpm: " If at least one CPC controlling (SYS 1 or SYS 2 green) DITCHING ............................ON (Outflow valve closes in less than 10 seconds.) ! As soon as outflow valve is closed: ONE PACK.........................................OFF CABIN PRESS MODE SEL...............................MAN DITCHING ...................................................OFF V/S CTL........................................AS RQRD BOTH PACKS..............................................ON

In manual mode, use the following table as a guide: MAN CAB PR CTL TARGET V/S: CLIMB 500 FT/MIN DESC 300 FT/MIN A/C FL CAB ALT TGT 390 8 000 350 6 500 300 5 000 250 2 500 <200 0 DURING FINAL APPR: V/S CTL....................FULL UP " If both CPC's failed (CAB PR SYS 1 + 2 FAULT): CPC 1 and 2 CBs................................ .RESET (Location D09 49 VU, Y22 122 VU) ! If unsuccessful: ECAM PROC............................................................APPLY (Either CAB PR EXCESS CAB ALT or SYS 1+2 FAULT) AFTER LANDING: CAUTION Check that .P is zero before opening doors RAM AIR PB :This pushbutton opens the ram air valve, provided that ditching is not selected. The outflow valve opens about 50 %, provided that it is not under manual control and P is less than one psi. If P is greater than one psi, the check valve located downstream the ram air door will not open, even if the ram air door has been selected open. No airflow will then be supplied. AIR PACK 1+ 2 FAULT : PACK (affected) ------------------------ OFF (The fault light goes off when the failure disappears.) DESCENT TO FL 100/MEA. Descend to FL 100, or MEA, whichever is higher. WHEN DIFF PR < 1 PSI AND FL BELOW 100 : RAM AIR . ON If FAULT was due to an overheat : after OVHT out select PACK ON

CAUSES : HEAVY RAINS ICE (PITOT BLOKED) RANDOM FAULT (ADIR 1+2+3) Normally if faulty ADIRs, if 2 right and 1 faulty, it will switch off the faulty one but if 1 right and 2 faulty, it will assume the 1 which is right as faulty and Switch it off. Pilot Incapacitation
Thursday, January 22, 2009 3:43 PM

" Any condition which affects the health of a crew member during the performance of duties which renders him incapable of performing the assigned duties" (Airbus operation policy Manual)

It occurs more frequently than many of the other emergencies which are the subject of routine training.

It occurs in all age groups and in all phases of flight.

It can occur in many forms varying from subtle partial loss of function to obvious loss of conscious or sudden death.

Main Symptoms Incoherent speech Strange behaviour Irregular breathing Pale fixed facial expression Jerky motions, either delayed or too rapid

Key for early recognition of incapacitation - Cross check of flight instrument , routine call outs and monitoring during critical phases of flight

The FIT Pilot must Declare EMERGENCY Involve the CABIM crew LAND ASAP Arrange Medical Assistance after landing AND

Low energy warning
