Welcome to the 6th Singapore Public Health and Occupational Medicine Conference. We have selected as the theme for the conference, Innovations in Public Health andOccupational Medicine The Next Frontier, to challenge ourselves and the larger public health and occupationalmedicinecommunitywiththeconundrumof enablingwideraccesstohigherqualityhealthservicesata costindividualsandsocietycanafford.Onlybybeingtruly innovative can we reconcile these often conflicting objectives. We have lined up an exciting program with over a dozen internationalspeakerswhowillsharewithusleadingedge insightsonaplethoraofissuesrangingfromtheuseofnew mediainpublichealth,innovativehealthfinancingmodels, wellbeing and mental health promotion, workplace wellnessandmanyothers. Thisyear,wearedeeplyprivilegedtohaveasourguestof honourProfPeterGluckman,ChiefScienceAdvisortothe New Zealand government and the only New Zealander elected to the Institute of Medicine of the United States NationalAcademiesofScienceandaFellowofAcademyof MedicalSciencesofGreatBritain.ProfGluckmanisalsoa Fellow of the Royal Society of London and a recipient of New Zealands top science award, the Rutherford Medal. Other distinguished guests speaking include Prof Paul Glasziou, currently Professor of EvidenceBased Medicine inthedepartmentofPrimaryCareatBondUniversityand the University of Oxford, Dr S Aravind from the world renowned Aravind Eye Care System (Lighting up Lives ThroughReverseInnovation),DrKurtHegmann,Chairof theAmericanBoardofPreventiveMedicinewhowillspeak onpreventivemedicineeducationandmanyothers. Innovation is a multidisciplinary effort that requires new partnerships and even newer mental models. This years conference brings together an unprecedented number of international and local expert faculty members across a diverse array of disciplines to deliver a wide array of workshops,discussionsandsymposia.
