Review and compare two different district/school vision statements. Try to obtain these from two distinct types of districts/schools. Note strengths and weaknesses of each, and make recommendations for your district. Serve on strategic development, monitoring, or evaluation team for your district / school. This will depend on the current stage of the plan. Log your time and duties as part of the team. Cite significant learning and recommendations. Review the ways in which assessment data are used by the following: board of education, superintendent, faculty, and staff. Review how use of assessment data could be improved. Choose two effective listening techniques (e.g., posing probing questions, body language, etc.), and apply the techniques in a student and/or parent conference. Personally assess the effectiveness in soliciting communication from the student and/or parent.

Choose a current issue in the district/school. Use steps for issue resolution with a small group of concerned parties. Reach consensus for a plan to resolve the issue and/or a critique on areas where resolution failed. Survey administrators and school teachers to assess the areas in which they believe decisions should be reached collaboratively. Include in the survey the perceived level of interest, expertise, need for a high-quality decision, and support for the decision. Discuss the results of the survey with the superintendent or principal, and compare the administrators beliefs and current practices with those of teachers for agreement or disagreement. Interview persons involved in the implementation of a district/school curriculum. Describe the implementation process, and note successes and concerns/problems with its implementation. Observe the opening week of school or district activities and cite the issues and/or goals for such activities. Interview several teachers and/or students and compare the issues and goals from each perspective. Note major concerns from faculty, administration, and students. Observe one instructional assistant. Note duties, time, and expertise in academic assistance to the students.

Survey a school faculty on methods used to motivate students. Survey a sample of students soliciting methods that motivate them to perform at school. Compare and contrast the two surveys. View the Draft Technology Standards for School Administrators website (http://cnets.istc.org/tssa/view _standards.html). Draw up a plan of how to implement these six standards. Randomly select a group of students and elicit their recommendations for how to improve preparation for tests. Compile and critique the student recommendations, and address the issue of student input into this process. Meet with a group of randomly selected students to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of co-curricular activities. Recommendations for improving/expanding the strengths of such activities into other subjects. Survey a broad spectrum of teachers to elicit recommendations for more effective and relevant professional development and to assess the degree of importance that professional development should have in teacher evaluation. Meet with a current leader involved in implementing a district/school change. Find out why the change was made and what steps were taken to make the change. Compile a list of current issues that affect teaching and learning. Use research literature and perspectives from administrators, teachers, students, and parents in compiling the list. Assess the degree of importance and urgency for each issue. Submit a brief professional development plan. Plans should include deficiencies cited in the internship in the various learning areas. The plan should also include ongoing development with membership and service pertinent organizations cited in the above activity. Compile a list of books, publications, training manuals, and district or state publications used or recommended for the position of study. The list should include resources of the highest quality and relevance to the positions and educational leadership.
