3. An electric eld is E = 50N/C i for x > 0 and E = 50N/C i for x < 0. A cylinder of length 15cm and radius 5 cm has its center at the origin and its axis is along the x-axis, such that one end is at x = +7.5cm and the other end is at x = -7.5cm, as shown below. (a) (1 mark) What is the electric ux passing through each end of the cylinder? (b) (1 mark) The electric ux passing through the curved surface of the cylinder is equal to zero. Explain clearly. (c) (2 marks) What is the net charge inside the cylinder? (d) (3 marks) If the charge in part-c were due to a uniform charge density of (Coulombs/m2 ) in the entire y-z plane, what would have to be? (e) (3 marks) If a line charge of linear density = 5.01 1010 C/m along the x-axis were added to the system ( i.e. we still have the uniform charge density in the y-z plane from part-d ), what would be the total electric eld at point-A located at (15cm,15cm,0)? Be sure to show how you obtain the electric eld due to the line charge using Gauss law.

4. Given the circuit below with the following values R1 = 2, R2 = 6, R3 = 3, E = 1.3V , and L = 5mH. (a) (3 marks) Calculate the currents i1 , i2 , and i3 just after the switch S is closed. (b) (2 marks) Calculate the currents i1 , i2 , and i3 a long time after the switch is closed. The switch is then opened again. (c) (2 marks) Calculate the currents i1 , i2 , and i3 just after the switch S is reopened. (d) (3 marks) Calculate the current i3 at t = 0.5 msec, after the switch is reopened.

5. A square loop of wire of side l = 10cm is lying on the plane of the paper (xy-plane) and a magnetic eld B is directed out of the page (z-direction) as shown below. The resistance of the wire loop is 1.2 . (a) (2 marks) If B = 15T k (constant everywhere) and an external force is used to move the loop at a constant velocity vloop = 3m/s i, in the x-direction, what would be the induced current? No marks without explanation. (b) (4 marks) If the external force is turned o, (i.e. equal to zero), and vloop is zero, but B depends on time as B = (2.3 20t)T k where t is in seconds, what is the induced current? Is the current owing clockwise or counter-clockwise? Explain your reasoning. (c) (4 marks) If in part-b, we also have l (side of square loop) changing with time (i.e. dl elastic wire) given by l = 10 cm + bt, what must dt be at time t = 0 in order to have no net force on the left side of the loop?
