My Unit for practice week

Research question:"What different activities can I

utilize to enrich my fifth grade pupils' spoken vocabulary?"

Topic: Lag B'omer I. Objectives: The pupils will be able to 1) discriminate between and use the words bonfire, matches, fire, torch, wood, potatoes, marshmallow on a stick , bow and arrow, singing songs. (D. appreciation of language B. know how the basic elements of English sound). 2) use above 10 words in reading and writing in guided group activities (worksheets and on the computer) ( D. access to information B. get meaning from a text by decoding and global reading skills D presentation B pronoun ce comprehensibly/ print legibly) . 3) produce sentences about their plans in Lag B'omer and about the story of Lag B'omer in guided group activities and free production with 80% acc. ( D. social interaction B. give and receive information orally). 4) sing a song (D. appreciation of culture B. are familiar with chants, songs).

Matirials: 1. Pictures and flash cards. 2. Worksheet. 3. Lag B'omer song.

Background knowledge: The pupils have background knowledge about Lag B'omer in their native language. Greeting: 8:45 Good morning, how are you all today? Small talk, "T" sings along with all the pupils the good morning song.

Motivation: 8:50 "T" asks the pupils"whichholiday is coming?" This week we will learn about Lag B'omer and we will plan the bonfire. Presentation and Activities: 8:55 1. "T" holds up 10 Lag B'omer pictures, one at a time, and tells pupils the word. Pupils repeat chorally and individually. Pictures are put on the table. 9:02 2. "T" takes two pictures at the time and asks the pupils to say the word on the picture.9:05 3. Pupils go to sleep. "T" removes one picture. Pupils have to say which picture is missing.9:07 4. "T" presents the pupils with the word cards and, by raising hands, one of the pupils reads what is written on the card and puts it next to the picture.9:10 5. "T" takes the word cards, and spells them to the pupils, by raising hands; the pupils are required to say which words are spelled. 9:16 6. "T" gives a phonetic connection (bow and arrow). "T" uses the rule when two vowels go out walking the first one does the talking in the case of potatoes.9:13 7. T" presents sentences structures to practice with the pupils ( this is done orally by raising the correct picture card): a. The fire is very hot. b. The potatoes are tasty. c. The cave is dark. 9:20 8. "T" asks each pupil to demonstrate each sentence and to raise the matching picture card and word card. 9:26 9. "T" gives to each pupils the words in printing and asks them to put it on their notebook.9:28

Conclusion: 9:20 "T" hands out the worksheet to each pupil in the group to work in class . The pupils will do the worksheet first and it will be checked as a group activity. Evaluation: The pupils will use the sentences in addition they will find other correct words to put on the same sentences.

Follow up: The next lesson will keep dealing with Lag B'omer and we will use the words during the lesson. Extension: Lag B'omer check list. Homework: 1. Words X5 2. Read the sentences again 3. Finish the worksheet 4. Extra- to bringa plan for Lag B'omer in Hebrew. Extra: Hot/cold game using all flash cards. Judgment: Eliminate the worksheet since they can do it by themselves and we will check it next time in class. Closure: Good bye, I had fun with you today. See you tomorrow. Don't forget to collect woods.

V. GREETING: 10:00 The good morning song. How are you pupils? VI. MOTIVATION:10:01As I said yesterday, during this week we will

getprepared to Lag Bomer night. Lag B'omer is on next Sunday!!! "We should make a check list.

VII. PRESENTATION AND ACTIVITIES: 1) 8:50The teacher checks the pupils homework (vocabulary worksheets).

The teacher asks different pupils to read their answers, while these checking the pupils review the yesterdays words. The pupils, who did not do the homework, still have to read the answers but they dont have time for thinking. The teacher collects the worksheets. 2) 8:56The teacher explains what is check list and asks "Why do we need a check list?" 3) 8:58The teacher presents the flashcards of words they already familiar with like drinks, food, potatoes, matches, snacks, marshmallow etc. . The teacher reads the words, the pupils repeat. 4) 9:03In order to review the words T does some oral activities such as taking two pictures, mixing them and ask the pupil to name them or give numbers to the pictures and ask them to raise their fingers. 5) 9:08The teacher models sentence that starts with "We need for Lag B'omer night" each pupil has to say one sentence at least of what he thinks that he need to Lag B'omer night, if they need the teacher will help to the pupils with the difficulties.
6) 09:16 After the oral practice T presents Bristol board with missing words

the pupils will work in group and each one will complete at least one sentence from the word we have just learned. (the Bristol board will be on
their class or in the English class) 7) 9:21gives them a piece of paper with the title check list and with the

sentence I need ______________ for Lag B'omer night.

VIII. CONCLUSION:09:21Each pupil read the sentence that he completed and

takes the right picture.

IX.EVALUATION: Pupils will present sentences in the target language and in

order to check their understanding they will have to pick up the right card.
X. EXTRA: The pupils switch their sentences and read them. XI. JUDGMENT: The teacher eliminates the reading activity and leaves it for

the next lesson.


XII. EXTENSION: We continue working on the story. The pupils prepare the

illustrated presentation of the story. The order of sentences is important.

Lag B'omer It is the most important think for you to be safe and it calls safety instructions"

VII. PRESENTATION AND ACTIVITIES:

1) 10:50T presents the new words and make a quick review on the words from the last lesson. 2) 10:55T models sentences and present flash cards, the pupils repeat the sentences. 3) 11:00T present the word cards and read it the first time, after the teacher read it each pupil have to read the sentence that T chooses. 4) 11:05T gives to each pupil a picture and a word card, by turns the pupils have to read the sentences they got out loud. 5) 11:15T leaves the sentences on the table and asking each pupil to choose a sentence and to copy it to their notebooks. 6) 11:20 T asks the pupils to create an ad for their classes together in T computer. Each one will have to write the sentence from his/her notebook and to find on the internet a picture for it.

VIII. CONCLUSION: 11:10 T gives the pupils worksheets with one missing word
and they have to complete the sentence the sentences will no longer be on the table but they will have a word bank.

IX.EVALUATION: The teacher checks the pupils notebooks and save their ad. X. EXTRA: create a presentation to the class about Lag B'omer safety

instructions.

XI. JUDGMENT: The teacher may help the pupils to search pictures on the net XII. EXTENSION: The Lag Bomer song. XIII. HOMEWORK: copy the sentences from your worksheet X 2. XIV. CLOSURE: Thank you so much, prepare yourself for the last and the

I. TOPIC: Lag Bomer, summery, night II. OBJECTIVES: The pupils will be able to:

1) discriminate between and use the words everybody, bring, make, pile, high, light, see, reaching, sky- orally. (D. appreciation of language B. know how the basic elements of English sound- foundation level. D. presentation B. present information on limited content, supported by visual aidsfoundation level). 2) use above the learned words in reading classroom activities (D. access to information B. get meaning from a text and from the exercise by decoding and global reading skills D. presentation B pronounce comprehensibly/ print legibly). 3) present the song in pairs (D. social interaction B. give and receive information orally).
III. MATERIALS: computer:marshmallow, song. IV. BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE: Lag Bomer story in the native language. V. GREETING: 11:45The good morning song. How are you pupils? VI. MOTIVATION: 11:46 Today is our last lesson and Lag B'omer will be in

Sunday so today we will work on the computers and we will make a fun Lag B'omernight"

VII. PRESENTATION AND ACTIVITIES:

1) 11:47The teacher distributes the printed song. The teacher reads the song and then the group reads it together. The song: Everybody bring some wood. Make the pile high! Light the bonfire see the flames, reaching to the sky! (Tune: Row, row, row your boat) now sing it. 2) 11:50 T gives asks the pupils to open the file on the computer. The pupils have to do the task according to the teacher explanation. 3) 11:55In the first task they will review Lag B'omer words 4) 12:00The second task will be listening to the story in the computer. 3)12:10The pupils will have to record themselves into the computer until they get it right of course they can use the file with the story. 4)12:15T asks the pupils to sit around the bonfire (illustration of bonfire) and summarized the year. T says thank you for a lovely year I had great time and I wish you all the best 5)11:55 T gives each pupil a marshmallow on a stick.

VIII. CONCLUSION:11:50The teacher presents the power point

presentation with the illustrated song. The teacher sings this song; the pupils listen and watch the presentation. The whole group sings it (twice or even more).
IX.EVALUATION:The computer tasks will develop the pupils writing listening

and the most important for my question the oral language.


X. EXTRA: Sing the song around the bonfire. XI. JUDGMENT:The teacher may ask them do the oral activity as homework. XII. EXTENSION: Next week the master teacher will teach them a new unit. XIII. HOMEWORK: tell you friends about our week.
