ABC Video News (Sky News) 27 June 2011 However to the credit of Sky News in smaller print after the headline on their website they also added: A leading climate change advocate maintains public sentiment for climate change action is improving.

ABC Video News (Sky News) Reports: "Poll - support for climate action low"

Reported was: 75 per cent of Australians believe the federal government has done a poor job addressing climate change. This could also easily be interpreted to mean that the general Australian population believes the government hasnt done enough yet to make sure Australia is doing what it should to reduce world carbon emissions and help mitigate climate change. This becomes perhaps the more likely scenario after one discovers that the article failed to mention other statements of public disappointment in the Executive Summary of the 2011 Lowy Institute Poll such as: A large majority (75%) of Australians say the Federal government has done a poor job addressing climate change, with 39% saying it has done a very poor job. This could easily indicate that Australians are getting frustrated with their governments lack of action or willingness to make a strong stand against some of the biggest carbon emitters. This would be understandable as the government over the last several years first proposed a Carbon Trading Scheme, then a Carbon Tax focusing on the top 1000 carbon emitters, but still has yet to finalize any plan to deal with problem. The articles and news casts also failed to mention all the pertinent details of the report when saying such statements as Just 41 percent think the issue is a serious and pressing problem,. That would lead some people to think oh that means a 59% majority must think otherwise perhaps the contrary. What 41 percent actually think according to this study is that Global warming is a serious and pressing problem, <AND the omitted text> We should begin taking steps now even if this

involves significant costs. In addition another 40% feel the problem of global warming should be addressed, but its effects will be gradual, so we can deal with the problem gradually by taking steps that are low in cost. Thats still means 81% of Australians are willing in some fashion to PAY in to order to help lower Australias carbon emissions! On the issue of payment: Sky News Said: that support for tackling climate change was eroding at steady rate. The BigPond News said Australians are also much less willing to pay a price to tackle climate change, with 39 per cent not prepared to pay anything extra. WOW thats some real news for you! Come on folks who REALLY wants to pay for anything? Free is always better! The 39% are just being honest and voicing what everyone thinks and would prefer. However, the main point to consider, which was also NOT mentioned in the news reports is that 19% ARE willing to pay up to $10 more for their electricity bills, and 13% more are willing to pay DOUBLE that amount and an INCREASING percentage over pervious years when the same question was asked before is 22% are also willing to pay even MORE than that! So the majority of Australians 61% are willing to pay more. The question is does 61% of people willing to put their money where there mouth is and make sacrifices in the name of having a possible better future equate to: Poll support for climate action lowyou be the judge. It should be noted that selected statement choices taken from the Lowy Institute Poll and other comments made by the media seemed to suggest that these particular news sources had the current government and its policy markers as their primary target and not necessarily the need for climate change action.

2011 Lowy Institute Poll is their seventh annual poll.

The 2011 Lowy Institute Poll reports the results of a nationally representative opinion survey of 1,002 Australian adults conducted in Australia between 30 March and 14 April 2011. It is the seventh annual Lowy Poll. Timing: This years poll was conducted during a time that the Opposition Leader Tony Abbott had been touring the country criticising the Governments proposed mining and carbon taxes, which had been given extensive media coverage.
