Solar Impulse en route from Brussels to Paris

The Solar Impulse an EV that can be powered only by the solar panels on top of its Boeing 747 sized-wings lands in Paris from Brussels and could potentially provide proof concept for a perpetual flying machine. The solar plane piloted by Andr Borschberg flew to Paris from Brussels on Tuesday June 14th to participate in the International Air and Space Show in ParisLe Bourget and will be on site from the 20th to 26th of June for public viewing and possible demonstration flights. Kenneth Burridge Editor-in-Chief of EV.com and Captain qualified wide-body pilot said The flight of the Solar Impulse helps demonstrate that not only are such electric vehicles possible, but that humanity doesnt need to rely of fossil-based fuels for all of its air or ground transportation needs.. The Solar Impulse was originally scheduled to make the Brussels to Paris flight on June 12th, but had to turn around and return due to unfavorable weather conditions. Interestingly Mr Burridge (currently based in Melbourne Australia) said that Just last week the Melbourne international airport had been closed for a few days due to a volcanic ash cloud from Chile stranding thousands of passengers. Electric-powered aircraft such as the Solar Impulse could have possibly flown while traditional-powered aircraft remained grounded, since EVs are far more immune to contaminated air issues..

Solar Impulse plans non-stop round-the-world-flight

Andr Borschberg has taken the Solar Impulse designated HB-SIA on 15 flights so far and flown for over 80 hours in addition to an overnight flight which proved that extended solar-powered flights over 24 hours were possible. Ultimately the Solar Impulse team is planning to complete a continuous non-stop round-the-world flight using only solar power, creating a potential perpetual flying machine.
