A Warning to Muslims & Masajid Committees

This brief note is to highlight to the Masajid committees, Muslim organisations and all Muslims of the recent distribution of literature to the community. The literature is from the Kabbalah Society... need I say any more? If, like myself, you are a Masjid committee member, your masjid may have received a call, as I did recently, from someone working for the Kabbalah Society, offering to send out free literature in relation to Abrahamic faiths. If you do receive the literature, it would be advisable that it is vetted by a suitably qualified imam, prior to making a decision on whether the documentation is then passed on to the wider masjid community. A cursory glance at the web-site of the Kabbalah Society should be sufficient to demonstrate that the Kabbalah Society, which works as an inter-faith group, can be dismissed as being an authority on Islam in any way. As such, I would suggest the literature is disposed of appropriately. We have all probably heard of the Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism linked to black magic) as the religion Madonna adopted, only to then discard it and consider joining Opus Dei. We are probably less aware that Kabbalah Society uses the inter-faith banner to recruit unsuspecting individuals to what is essentially an esoteric cult. The group recently held an inter-faith conference in Birmingham, with Muslim representatives being Paul Salahuddin Armstrong, codirector of the British Muslim Association, and Mohammed Nazam, co-founder of The Berakah Project. Click on the links to look at these individuals web-sites so you can make your own minds up. The conference presented topics like The Western Mystery Tradition, How to Read Scripture without Religion, The Spirit of Inclusion and The Ancient Origins of the Tree of Life. If you are still in doubt (Im sure that wont be the case), a presentation was also given by The Tony Blair Faith Foundation. The web-site further attempts to convince the reader of their credentials by making reference to La Convivencia, this being the glorious period during Muslim rule in Islamic Spain when Muslims, Christians and Jews lived comfortably alongside one another. The inference being that they are hoping to create the same tolerance once more; that would be great if only that was the true intention. I will write to you again soon, once I have received and reviewed the literature myself. 30th May 2011
