Chicago professionals putting an end to domestic violence


Organization Background
Founded in 1976, Connections for Abused Women and their Children (CAWC) is the oldest domestic violence organization in Chicago. Using a self help, empowerment approach, CAWC provides counseling, advocacy, and a 24-hour hotline for those affected by domestic violence.
Humboldt Park Outreach Program (HPOP) provides bilingual English/Spanish
services to walk-in clients in the Humboldt Park community.

Community Awareness Events Board


members assist in awareness activities and donation drives that support the work of CAWC.

Haymarket Center Domestic Violence Program provides support services to women


who have been victims of violence and who are also working to overcome alcohol and substance abuse.

Member Benefits
Active membership in CAWCs Junior Board not only involves working for a worthy cause but also the ability to develop exciting events and build relationships with other members of Chicagos professional community.

CAWCs Junior Board


The Junior Board aims to increase CAWCs exposure to the Chicago philanthropic community and obtain additional resources to support CAWCs programs. Members are drawn from the Chicago professional community and are led by an executive committee of three members. Junior Board meetings occur on a bimonthly basis and focus on the following:
Sounds of Silence-CAWCs annual gala benefit for which members solicit auction items and generate ticket sales.

CAWC Programs
Each year, CAWC assists over 3,500 women and children through four key programs:
Greenhouse Shelter is a 42 bed emergency shelter offering walk-in services, crisis intervention, counseling, and a 24-hour hotline for domestic violence victims.

Membership Criteria
CAWC Junior Board Members agree to:

Attend a majority of scheduled meetings Set a group goal of raising $1,000 per year through various activities Design and attend fundraising events Expand CAWCs benefactor network and recommend new Junior Board members

Hospital Crisis Intervention Project (HCIP) is located at Stroger County


Hospital and provides domestic violence training to health care professionals as well as on-site crisis intervention and counseling for victims.

Fundraising Events Members organize two


to three fundraising events each year in collaboration with CAWCs development staff.
