CLUB POLICY # 301

SAFETY, GENERAL AND SPECIFIC RANGE RULES

1.0 New Members: All new members of GRPC will view a safety orientation video before being granted range privileges. The written test accompanying the video must be passed to the 100 percentile. There is a short video for daily members, and a more detailed version for annual or life members. 2.0 General: 2.1 Eye and hearing protection devices are strongly recommended. 2.2 All shooters will prominently display the current range access badge as issued by the Club. 2.3 The Range Safety Officers (RSOs) are there for the benefit of the shooters. Their word on safety/usage issues is final. If there are disagreements with the RSOs ruling, those are addressable to the BOD, in writing and in person. 2.4 Club members and their guests will shoot on adjacent positions. 3.0 Line Commands/Status and Protocol 3.1 Line Status: agreed to by all personnel on the line 3.1.1 Hot: all personnel are behind the firing line, the firing line is ready, OK to handle guns and shoot. 3.1.2 Cold or Clear: 3.1.2.1 3.1.2.2 3.1.2.3 3.1.2.4 3.1.2.5 3.1.2.6 3.1.2.7 All firearms are unloaded Open Bolt Indicators (OBI) are inserted, detachable magazines removed. All firearms are benched/racked No contact with firearm All personnel fall back to red line or back of firing line. Line is then called Cold or Clear Personnel may then advance to serve targets, police brass, etc.

3.2 Transporting Firearms to/from a range/firing line 3.2.1 When the line is Hot, firearms may be taken to/from the line unloaded with OBI. 3.2.2 Or cased/boxed 3.2.3 Or holstered

3.2.4 When the line is Cold, firearms MUST be unloaded with OBI, or boxed/cased, or holstered. 3.3 CEASE FIRE: Emergency command. 3.3.1 Cease Fire may be called by any person on the line who sees a safety problem. 3.3.2 Upon the command Cease Fire, all guns will be made safe, ammunition removed, magazines removed, OBI inserted, benched/racked and all personnel will fall in back of the firing line or to the red line. No questions or hesitation, just do it. 3.4 Rapid Fire Definition: There will be a minimum of two seconds between shots. 3.4.1 3.4.2 3.4.3 3.4.4 3.4.5 All firing will be aimed fire. All firing will be from conventional positions No drawing from holster/from body carry No firing from the hip All bullets will impact the berm directly.

3.5 Exceptions 3.5.1 Each range has specific rules posted. Review them. 3.5.2 OBI/Red line/ fall back: these rules may be voided only at the discretion of the Match Director during club approved competitions, and only for the duration of the match.

4.0 TARGETS AND RANGE USE 4.1 For All Ranges, No .50 Browning Machine Gun (BMG) chambered for firearms are permitted. As of June 13, 2011, no rifles chambered for cartridges based on the .50 caliber Browning machine gun cartridge are permitted to be fired at GRPC. This includes, but is not limited to the .416 Barrot cartridge. The reason is this. Our baffle system is not designed to stop this type of powerful cartridges. We are in an urban environment and safety is our foremost consideration. No select fire or fully automatic firearms are allowed to be fired in the automatic mode. Military and Police will require Club approval for use of select fire, and the use will always be in semi-automatic mode. 4.2 Targets, All Ranges: No junk targets: that is, no tin cans, glass or plastic bottles, shotgun shells, golf balls, bowling pins, rocks, chunks of wood, etc. If there is any doubt, consult with a RSO. 4.3 Targets and Permitted firearms/ammunition, by Range: 4.3.1 7.5, 15 yd (pistol) lines:

4.3.1.1Targets: Bulls eye as sold by the club or similar. Multiple targets on same frame ok. Targets will be placed in provided frames 4.3.1.2 Targets will be situated such that all bullets will directly impact the berm

4.3.2 Firearms/ammunition 4.3.2.1 4.3.2.2 4.3.2.3 4.3.2.4 Pistols and revolvers Conventional pistol ammunition. No rifle Cartridges or derivatives No pistol grip or reconfigured rifles, such as AR-15, AK family, .30 Carbine, etc.

4.3.3 25/50 yd (pistol) line. 4.3.3.1 This range is now again open to all members, day, annual and life members. Part of the range now has a 15 yard target line. During organized Bullseye pistol matches, the 15 yard target holders will be removed. 4.3.3.2 Caution: be certain all shots will impact target frame zone/target at these longer distances. Any doubt, go to a shorter distance range 4.3.3.3 Targets will be placed in proper frames.

4.3.4 Firearms/ammunition 4.3.4.1 Same as above, for 7.5, 15 yd line use.

100 yd (rifle) lines: 4.4.1 Targets: bulls eye, grid, paper animals 4.4.2 Targets will be placed in proper frames 4.4.3 Targets will be situated such that all bullets will directly impact the 100 yard berm or bullet traps at 25 and 50 yards. 4.4.4 Firearms/ammunition 4.4.4.1 conventional rifles: shoulder stocked configuration. 4.4.4.2 Rimfire and centerfire rifle cartridges 4.4.4.3 Firing offhand is prohibited. 4.4.4.4 Shotgun lane No 28 sand box on front 100 yd. line is for pistol grip type shotguns. Lane No 27 is for patterning of birdshot. 4.4.4.5 Shotguns with rifled barrels or barrels with sights are allowed on lanes no 1 thru 26.

Intent is for allow shotguns and ammo used for deer or turkey not bird shot. 4.5 200 yd/meter line: 4.5.1 Targets: bullseye, grid, paper, animals ,metallic animals (on silhouette line). 4.5.2 Targets will use proper frames 4.5.3 Targets may be set only at 200 yds or 200 meters, never closer. 4.5.4 Bullets must impact the 200 yard targets and berm. Persons not capable of this will be instructed to cease fire by Range Safety Officers (RSO) or other Club members. Such persons will have to demonstrate their ability to the RSO to hit the 200 yard targets before being allowed to continue shooting. 4.5.4 Firearms/ammunition 4.5.4.1 Any safe rifle 4.5.4.2 Pistols used must be special configuration, with barrel length of 10 inches or greater. Control issue. 4.5.4.3 Ammunition: rimfire and centerfire. No Incendiary or tracer rounds. 4.6 Silhouette Line: 40, 50, 75, 100 yds 4.6.1 Targets: bulls eye, grid, paper animals, metallic (when placed on rails) 4.6.1.1 Targets will be placed in proper frames/positions 4.6.1.2 Targets will be situated such that all bullets directly impact the berm(s). 4.6.2 Firearms/ammunition 4.6.2.1 Any safe standard configuration rimfire or black powder muzzle loading firearm. 4.6.2.2 Centerfire pistols with minimum 8 inch barrel and cap and ball 4.6.2.3 No centerfire rifles 4.7 General Purpose Ranges (except shotgun venue) 4.7.1 Targets: bulls eye, grid, paper animals, metallic reactionary. Other configuration targets may be used is required by competition or match rules. 4.7.2 Falling Plate Targets: no cartridge more powerful than .357 Magnum will be used on falling steel plates. 4.7.2.1 All targets will be placed such that all bullets will directly impact the berm. 4.7.2.2 All shooting at metallic targets will be done at a distance

sufficient to ensure no ricochet damage to shooter(s). 4.7.3 Firearms/ammunition 4.7.3.1 Rimfire and centerfire pistol calibers. No high-power rifle cartridges/firearms chambered for same are allowed. 4.7.3.2 Pistols, revolvers, rimfire rifles, shotguns Cowboy rifles/shotguns (lever, slide, top break actions and chambered for pistol loads,(muzzle velocity of less than 1000 ft/sec with lead bullets) are OK.
Shotguns are permitted to be patterned with birdshot, buckshot or slugs using paper targets. Shot and slugs must strike the targets and impact the berm, The plate racks must not be shot with buckshot or slugs or damaged in any way by the use of shotguns. .

4.7.3.3 Rapid fire is permitted on these ranges. 4.7.3.4 Drawing from the holster is permitted. 4.8 Shotgun Range: 4.8.1 Load and fire the shotgun only when in the lattice/wood box. Open Bolt Indicators are not required on this range. 4.8.2 Targets: only clay pigeons. Retrieval of undamaged clay pidgeons is permitted provided other Club members are not forced to wait. 4.8.3 Firearms/ammunition: 4.8.3.1 Any gauge shotgun in safe condition. 4.8.3.2 Ammunition: No shot size larger than #6 birdshot.
