TOW Improved Target Acquisition System ITAS

Early entry forces require superb target recognition with the greatest standoff ranges possible. The TOW Improved Target Acquisition System provides exactly what they need.

Benefits

Enhanced Detection and Acquisition Range

Increased target detection, acquisition, recognition and engagement ranges Increased probability of hit through advanced FLIR technology Improved crew survivability through increased standoff range

The TOW Improved Target Acquisition System (ITAS) M41 is a material change to the current target acquisition and fire control subsystem for the tube-launched, optically tracked,wire-guided missile (TOW) for the first-to-fight, light infantry forces. ITAS increases the systems target detection, acquisition, recognition, and engagement ranges; fires all versions of the TOW missile from both the M41 ground launcher (dismount mode) and the M1121 high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicle (HMMWV) platform; and provides the growth path for TOW Fire and Forget.
Advanced FLIR Technology

early entry forces to destroy advanced threat armor, at greater standoff ranges in the main battle area. Its secondgeneration, forward-looking infrared (FLIR) system uses the Standard Advanced Dewar Assembly (SADA II) technology, other digital components, and an eyesafe laser rangefinder, thus satisfying user-identified operational enhancements. These improvements provide for increased probability of hit over the existing TOW 2 system by increasing both detection and identification ranges by a factor of 4 and 2, respectively. The sensor provides precise far-target location by incorporating an advanced second-generation FLIR, a global positioning interferometer and an eye-safe laser rangefinder.

Enhanced Battlefield Performance

Key features contributing to mission accomplishment include autoboresight, aided target tracking, embedded training, BIT/BITE, and traversing unit modifications. These enhancements improve crew survivability through extended standoff range, increased situational understanding, and enhanced performance in dirty battlefield environments.

ITAS provides the highly mobile, adverse-weather, day/night capability needed by

The Modified ITAS (MITAS) has been selected as the principle heavy antitank system for the Stryker Brigade Combat Teams Antitank Company. MITAS is deployed on the antitank-variant (ATGM) of the Stryker Brigade Combat Team.
