That Ireland will have a Restored Economy such that our people can have gainful employment. 3. That a Caring Society will emerge again.

2. Restored Economy:
With the downturn in the economy the blight of unemployment has returned to Ireland with many families and young adults having to consider emigration. The statistics for unemployment are frightening:

During this Initiative, our desire is to see people humbly commit themselves to Christ-centred, biblically-based prayer for 1 hour per week ending in December 2011 for the 3 key Prayer Objectives.

Faced with the lack of credibility in our churches, secularisation and a failure to understand the Good News of Jesus, we need urgently to pray for Gods compassionate intervention. We need to be made aware of the reality of God, of His holiness, and of His salvation in Jesus Christ. We need a new outpouring of Gods Spirit to revive and renew us. All churches are commissioned by Jesus to evangelise our society. The Alpha Course is one of the best ways of doing this as it helps people reconnect with God. Pray for the 20 Alpha Courses due to start during the 1st week of October in the Dublin South /Dun Laoghaire/ N Wicklow areas.

The Bible urges us to pray for those in authority, So that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity (1 Tim.2:2). Our politicians have many difficult choices to make to lead us to a Restored Economy. We need, therefore, to pray earnestly and specifically by name for our political leaders. Please pray for our Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD and Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore TD. Pray for your local TDs and Councillors* and send them an email occasionally, saying you are praying for them and ask them to share local needs with you that you can remember in prayer. (*For details

3. Caring Society:
During the Celtic Tiger years our society has become increasingly materialistic and selfcentred. There has been a major increase in social problems ranging from drug abuse to suicide to alcoholism. Our churches need to be role models for reaching out to our society around us. Scripture says Be kind to one another, tender hearted forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective (James 5:16)

INSPIRATION FOR UNITED PRAYER INITIATIVE

This Prayer Initiative is sponsored by Alpha Ireland. During our preparation for the Autumn 2011 Alpha Media Campaign we were inspired by the idea of having Christians in Dublin South, Dun Laoghaire and North Wicklow committing to praying in unity. Following the Alpha Media Campaign, from the 19th Sept 3rd Oct we expect to see over 20 Parishes/Churches in Dublin S.E / N. Wicklow start an Alpha Course for their local community. We believe that the success of this campaign lies in the focused prayer of Christians in these areas as Prayer and Evangelisation go hand in hand. As we set ourselves to pray, let us take encouragement from Gods faithfulness to His people Israel: If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14)
