Trust for London is our new name following the amalgamation of City Parochial Foundation and Trust for London in July 2010.
Overview of 2009
The 2009 Annual Review is a much shorter document than usual, simply listing the grants made in 2009 with a summary of the accounts to 31 December 2009. We have decided to produce a simpler document because we have already published two documents in 2010 - An Introduction to Trust for London and our new Funding Guidelines for the period 2010-2012 - following the amalgamation of City Parochial Foundation and Trust for London on the 30 June 2010 and the rebranding of the one legal entity as Trust for London. Both are available from our website. 2009 was not, however, an insignificant year. City Parochial Foundation made grants totalling 5,025,369 million to 87 organisations through our open grants programme and Trust for London made grants amounting to 702,400 to 39 organisations. In May 2009, we published our flagship Londons Poverty Profile (LPP), the first independent assessment of poverty in the capital and launched a dedicated website www.londonspovertyprofile.org.uk/ for free use. The profile considers 16 indicators in five domains. We intend to use these indicators over the coming years to assess the performance of central and local government in tackling poverty and inequality in London, the most unequal region in England. In autumn 2009, we made a commitment of 1 million over four years to the Living Wage Campaign to lift the floor for those in in-work poverty. As the figures in the LPP report show, at the end of 2009, nearly one million people in poverty in London were living in working households, up by 300,000 from 2007. We continued our solo and collaborative special initiatives on Independent Domestic Violence Advocacy, Preventing Racist Violence, Safeguarding Children (faith-based child abuse linked to beliefs in spirit possession), Tackling Modern Day Slavery and Fear and Fashion (tackling use of knives and other weapons by young people). In addition, during 2009 we launched a special initiative on Female Genital Mutilation in partnership with Esme Fairbairn Foundation and Rosa, the UK Fund for women and young girls; and in partnership with Latin American Womens Rights Service, commissioned a research project to assess the needs of the Latin American population in London. Community Conversations: building bridges between people from different backgrounds, a publication emanating from a Conflict and Change project funded by CPF, was launched in September 2009. I am pleased to say that the project has attracted the interest of many, including central and local government. During 2009 we started to explore possible investment opportunities with Ethical Property Company following the trustees commitment to develop our work on mission and programme related investment. Progress in 2010 has been promising. Details of our open programme funding, the special initiatives and our publications and research can be found on our website www.trustforlondon.org.uk Bharat Mehta, Chief Executive Trust for London (formerly known as City Parochial Foundation) November 2010
