James Seenum, Blue Quill & Little Hunter Bands: Metis Who Left Treaty

The people represented at the 1876 Treaty negotiations by Seenum and Little Hunter were members of a loosely-connected group of Tribes (Cree, and Nakota) which had grown up in the 19th Century along the north side of the North Saskatchewan River, stretching from Lac Ste. Anne (on the West) and to Fort Pitt (on the East). Saddle Lake First Nation was created in 1953 by merging the former Little Hunter (Saddle Lake), James Seenum, and Blue Quill Bands. The Saddle Lake reserve is located on Highway 652, approximately 180 km northeast of the City of Edmonton, 26 km west of the Town of St. Paul and 105 km north of the Town of Vegreville. The group of Indian communities now known as the Saddle Lake First Nation #125 was formed in 1902 by the forced amalgamation of 4 tribes: Onchaminahos Kehkek (Chief Little Hunter) Seenum Band (Chief John Seenum) Blue Quill Band Siptakanep (Chief Blue Quill) Wasatnow Band (Chief Bear Ears)
