In Response To The Facts About Obamas Dismal Economic Record, Geithner Called The Statistics Ridiculous. NBCS DAVID GREGORY: You talk about what's good for the economy. A lot of this discussion about debt is ultimately to free up space for jobs to be created. It's not happening. People are still out of work. Here's the chart of the President's economic record. This is based on government information, the Treasury Department, U.S. Bureau Of Labor Stats unemployment 7.3% on Inauguration Day, up to 9.2%. with latest report, up 26%. You see the debt figures up 35%. SEC. GEITHNER: David, let me just say, that's a ridiculous table. (NBCs Meet The Press, 7/10/11)

Meet The Press Host David Gregory Noted That Geithner Did Not Dispute The Numbers. GREGORY: You're certainly not disputing those numbers. And this is what happened with the jobs report this week, The New York Times described it this way feeble job numbers show recovery starting to stall. For the second consecutive month, employers added scarcely any jobs in June, startling evidence that the economy recovery is stumbling." Basically, what you're saying Mr. Secretary, is it could have been a lot worse, it was really bad. My question is has the recovery stalled? do firmly believe that one of the wet blankets on this economy and on companies, on the system right now, is a question as to whether or not our political system, whether the leaders can get together, whether they can solve big problems or they're going to just kick the can. (ABCs This Week, 7/10/11)

Daley: The Dysfunction In Washington Is Negatively Affecting The Economy. It is frustrating to this president that it's not coming fast enough. But a lot of that is based on this dysfunction that seems to be going on in this town and that gets felt throughout the country and there's a lack of confidence whether these political leaders will have the guts to stand up and do the tough things.
(ABCs This Week, 7/10/11)

In November 2008, Daley Was Much More Optimistic About Obama's Potential Saying I Think As [Obama] Prepares For Inauguration And Then To Govern, I Think Youre Going To See An Optimism Begin To Grow He Will Begin To Turn That. DALEY: [T]heres an optimism about [President Obama] that I think is contagious. And I think as he prepares for inauguration and then to govern, I think youre going to see an optimism begin to grow in the American people, and thats a big piece of where were at, a lack of confidence, a lack of optimism. But he will begin to turn that. (MSNBCs Hardball, 11/7/08) Wasnt Obama Supposed To Change Washington? The Washington Post: President Obama entered office promising to be a different kind of politician - one who would speak honestly with the American people about the hard choices they face and would help make those hard calls. Tuesday night's State of the Union Address would have been the moment to make good on that promise. He disappointed. (Editorial, President Obama Needs To Lead Congress On The Path To Compromise, The Washington Post,
1/25/11)

Obama, Circa 2008: You have shown what history teaches us - that at defining moments like this one, the change we need doesn't come from Washington. Change comes to Washington. Change happens because the American people demand it - because they rise up and insist on new ideas and new leadership, a new politics for a new time. (Barack Obama, Speech At Democratic National Convention, Denver, CO, 8/28/08)

BOTTOM LINE: NBCS DAVID GREGORY SAYS OBAMAS POLICIES HAVE FAILED
NBCs David Gregory: Okay, but Mr. Secretary, if thats the case, look you guys have had big swings at the plate. You had stimulus, right? We were told that would keep unemployment to 8%. You had health care. You said it was critical to our economic security. The Fed did its thing before it backed out. You went after housing policy. None of them have really stemmed the tide, the decline in the housing market. (NBCs Meet The
Press, 7/10/11)
