What was Lyndon Brooks perception about Jane Kravitz abilities, attitudes and motivations?

On what were these assumptions based? Although brooks was not happy about his new role, which he perceived as a demotion from his existing role, he accepted the same with a positive attitude and decided to work with Kravitz and do his best. However, as they progress with the work their relationship suffers owing to their individual focus to meet their personal goals. 1. Brooks assumptions about Kravitz abilities: Before:a) Initially when Brooks was told to report to Kravitz, despite being unhappy about the move, he welcomed the change positively as he thought that Kravitz was a decent person to work with. He thought that it was an opportunity to prove him in a different area. b) Brooks felt that Kravitz would make a better supervisor than him. He made this assumption basis Kravitzs past track record which seemed to be quite good. c) Also during his first interaction with Kravitz, she tried to understand his concerns and also offered to help him in any way she could. She also kind of agreed to talk about the 2 S.Os which brooks felt unrealistic for him to achieve. This gave him a sense of comfort and he felt he could count on Kravitz. d) Brooks also felt that as a supervisor Kravitz was unable to balance her excitement to get Chucks buyin for Brooks abilities. According to him she went overboard recognizing him on completion of the environment project. After:a) During the first staff meeting Brooks got a feeling that Kravitz was unfair and unrealistic while assigning work to the team. Since Brooks was already busy with an environmental project he personally felt that it was unrealistic of her to expect him to complete 2 SOs in the stipulated time while others were getting more time to do the same amount of work. b) He also felt that kravitz was relegating and stereotyping him, because despite the fact that Brooks was inexperienced in the African American and Latino vertical and his failure in the past, he was assigned the same markets to work upon. c) Brooks also felt that Kravitz was trying to micro manage. When brooks told Kravitz about his conversation with Chuck, as his supervisor he expected Kravitz to fight for him. Instead Kravitz sent him a memo requesting a proposal on the two SOs. d) Brooks also felt her lack of trust in him, when she sent him a contract which outlined the terms of agreement after the small arguments that they had between them.

2. Brooks assumptions about Kravitz attitudes: Before a) Brooks felt that Kravitz was a reasonable person to work for since he knew her from some committee work in the past.

b) Brooks also felt that Kravitz was extremely helpful as she provided him with some leads. Although it didnt much help Brooks in the project he appreciated her support. After:a) Brooks felt that Kravitz attitude had a very top down approach. When she assigned him the same markets that he was uncomfortable with and had failed in the past on the same, she assigned him the same assignment and with unrealistic deadlines. This made him feel that she was trying to stereotype him and restricting his career advancements. Kravitz gave him reasons to believe that she too was ignoring his concerns about the completion of project by her expectations. b) Brooks felt let down by Janes attitude when she sent him a memo requesting for a proposal on the 2 SOs, while he was expecting her to fight for him with Chuck, who hardly appreciated the completion of the environmental project. c) Lastly Brooks also felt that Jane was extremely rude in her behavior with him during the last meeting. He personally felt that she was getting too hyper about his trip to San deigo. Without understanding his point of view Jane claimed the trip to be a waste of time. She went to the extent of saying that Brooks would just be building lodging expenses for the company when he had decided to bear half the expenses of the trip. d) Lastly Brooks felt that Kravitz attitude towards him was that of complete distrust when she sent him a contract outlining the terms of agreement post a heated discussion on the same. e) Initially her eagerness to find him a job elsewhere had already made Brooks uncomfortable. However in her last meeting she also went to the extent of pulling out his performance review and telling him that it was difficult for her to find him a new job in the company. 3. Brooks assumptions about Kravitz motivation:Before:a) Initially Kravitz tried to motivate Brooks in many ways by trying to understand his concerns, providing help, and also sympathizing with him. b) She also went out of her way to recognize him by writing to anyone and everyone in the organization about his performance while on completion of the environment project. After:a) After the first one on one meeting, Brooks started to feel less motivated as he was again given the same project which had failed him in the past and that too with unrealistic deadlines. b) Kravitz high level of eagerness to find brooks a new job in the organistaion made brooks a little uncomfortable. This was a bit de-motivating for a person who is already facing heavy conflict in terms of his performance and goals. On top of that in the last meeting Kravitz went ahead and told Brooks that it was difficult to find a new job for him in the organization owing to his past performance reviews. c) His interaction with Chuck upset him and Brooks expected Kravitz to fight for him as a supervisor, however she sent him a memo to present his plan. This completely made

brooks loose interest in the project and he was unwilling to complete even one part of his assignment.
