Guidelines to Surveyors

EXTENDED CLASS PERIODICAL HULL SURVEY REQUIREMENTS FOR GENERAL DRY CARGO SHIPS Application The requirements apply to all SCM classed self propelled vessels of 500 GRT and above. For vessel below 500 GRT, Guidelines to Surveyors: General Survey Requirements shall be used as a guidance in carrying out special survey tasks. Survey Schedule Annual Survey (AS): To be held within +/- 3months time window of the anniversary date (i.e. date from the initial classification or of the date credited for the last special survey) Intermediate Survey (IS): To be held at or within 2nd and 3 rd annual survey time window IS Can be commenced at 2nd annual survey (for tanks and holds) and completed at 3 rd annual survey Special/Renewal Survey (SS): To be carried out at 5 yrs intervals to renew the Classification Certificate. An extension of 3 months beyond the 5 th year may be granted in exceptional case. If completed within 3months before the expiry date of SS, the next period of class will start from the expiry date of SS. If completed more than 3 months before the expiry date of SS, the next period of class will start from the survey completion date SS can be commenced at the 4 th AS anniversary date and shall be completed at the 5 th SS anniversary date. This normally done for crediting tanks/holds. Prompt and Thorough Repairs (New Requirement absorbed from IACS) Any damage in association with wastage over the allowable limits (including buckling, grooving, detachment or fractures) or extensive area of wastage over the allowable limits, which affects or in the opinion of SCM Surveyor will affect the vessels structural, watertight and weather tight integrity, is to be promptly and thoroughly repaired. Areas that shall be taken into considerations are: Side shell frames and their end attachment and adjacent plating Deck structure and deck plating Bottom structure and bottom plating Watertight bulkhead Hatch covers and hatch coaming Scope and Requirements of Surveys See Table I, II, II and IV Reference: IACS UR Z7.1 Rev.2 and SCM Rules Vol. 1 Sec. 3 Part C- General Survey Requirement.

Annex I: Scope of Class Periodical Hull Surveys for General Dry Cargo Ship ANNUAL SURVEY (AS) AS#1,#2,#3 and #4
Objective Target
Ensuring as far as practicable that the hull, hatch covers, coaming and piping are satisfactorily maintained and fit for the intended used for the next annual survey. To discover local corrosion, notable deformation, fractures, damages, or other structural deformations To ensure structural integrity remains intact 1. Hull plating and its closing appliances 2. Watertight penetrations 3. Weather decks, hatch covers and coamings including stiffeners 4. Mechanically operated hatch covers + operations 5. Portable covers, wooden or steel pontoon: Wooden covers and portable beams, carriers or socket for the portable beams and their securing device Tarpaulins Cleat, batten and wedges Hatch securing bars and securing devices Loading pads/bars and the side plate edge Guide plates and chocks Compression bars, drainage channels and drain pipes 6. Air pipes, flame screen, vents and ventilators 7. Suspect areas (substantial corrosion) identified at previous SS. 8. Examination of Cargo Holds: Age : 10-15 years Cargo hold and tween deck - one forward and one aft Age : >15years All cargo holds Forward cargo hold and one selected cargo hold (CUP) min. 25% lower side frames and attachment (i.e. aprrox. 1/3 length). All piping and penetrations in cargo holds incl. overboard pipes. Floating

INTEMEDIATE SURVEY (IS) Within #2 and 3# AS

Ensuring that the hull, hatch covers, coaming and piping are satisfactorily maintained and fit for the intended used for the forthcoming special survey. To discover general corrosion, notable deformation, fractures, damages, or other structural deformations To ensure structural integrity remains intact 1. Age: 5-10years (Overall examination). Representative ballast tanks (i.e. tanks of similar type, service and coating system). Extended if coating found POOR. Cargo holds one forward and one aft 2. Age: 10-15years (Overall examination). All ballast tanks All Cargo holds and tween deck spaces 3. Age: >15years (Overall examination+ CUP). As per previous special survey requirements Exception : examination of FO, LO and FW Tanks

SPECIAL/RENEWAL SURVEY(SS)
In addition to AS requirements, extent of examination, tests and checks to ensure hull and related piping are in satisfactory condition and fit for the intended purpose for the new 5year class cycle. To discover substantial corrosion, significant deformation, fractures, damages, or other structural deformations To ensure structural integrity remains effective. 1. All tanks/holds/spaces: (Overall examination+ CUP). Cargo holds Water ballast tanks (including double bottom) Pipe tunnels Cofferdam Void spaces (share same boundary with cargo hold) Decks Outer hull 2. All piping system (including automatic air pipes) within the above spaces 3. Ballast tanks converted to void spaces 4. Condition of coating of ballast tanks 5. Thorough inspection and testing of hatch covers and coaming: Items as listed in AS Checking the satisfactory operations of mechanically operated hatch cover Checking the effectiveness of hatch covers sealing arrangement by hose testing or equivalent. 6. FO, LO and FW Tanks see Table II

CUP and Extension

In addition for vessel age: >15years (25% frames) and extended to other cargo holds if surveys reveal the need of remedial measures. Suspect areas. Extended if reveal substantial corrosion (See Table IV)

For vessel age >15yrs: As per requirements

previous special survey

1. See Table III- CUP minimum requirements 2. CUP may be extended if coating condition found POOR and found defects in similar tanks structural arrangement For UTM minimum requirements, see Guidelines to Surveyors ; Standardize and Enhanced Classification Requirements for UTM

UTM and Extension

For vessel age 10-15 yrs: Suspect areas. Extended if reveal substantial corrosion. (See Table IV) For vessel age >15yrs: As per previous special survey requirements Not required

Tank Testing and Extension (Pressure Test)

Not required

1. All boundaries of water ballast s and deep tanks used for water ballast within cargo length area. 2. Representative fuel oil tanks*

* To be carried out with the head of liquid to the highest point that liquid will rise under service condition. May be specially considered ( i.e. test waived) based on a satisfactory external examination of the tanks boundary, and a confirmation from the Master stating that the pressure testing has been carried out to the requirements with satisfactory results.
