A1 Development and Maintenance of an Eating Disorder as a Result of Abuse Tonja Krautter, Psy.D., LCSW This training will focus on why types of abuse can lead to an ED and how it can maintain the problem. Signs and symptoms of both Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa will be explored as well as both the medical and psychological consequences of these potentially lethal disorders. Special attention will be paid to the importance of utilizing specific treatment interventions with the abused child who has an ED. Guest speakers will share their inspiring stories of treatment and recovery

A2 Children with Special Needs and the Prevalence of Child Abuse Children with special needs are a vulnerable population at-risk for child abuse. This panel will discuss this complex

issue from a legal, medical, educational and parental perspective. This workshop will review the work of the Santa Clara County Child Death Review Team, with a focus on the evaluation of sudden unexpected infant deaths. Approaches to educating health professionals, parents, child care providers and the public on infant safe sleeping will be discussed.
